It should be mandatory that if a Broadway show is closing they should have it professionally shot. The producers have any idea how many people still would like to see that show and just didn't see it because they didn't have the opportunity, and would buy a DVD of it? Or the people who saw the show and loved it and would like to have it forever with them?
@@PRACTICALLYTIME Some shows like this don't really get the full traveling treatment and probably never will. This is one of those shows that is so old that it is probably destined to just make the mandatory rounds as a high school musical.
+Kaio Scott In interviews she says this was her "Breakout" role. She had a few smaller roles, and understudied some big roles but this was her first Lead Character on Broadway.
+Kaio Scott , I had no idea who she was when I first saw this show. As the show progressed, I thought, "Where did they FIND this amazing girl?" You can bet that people jumped up and applauded when she came out for the curtain call. I saw this show 3 times on Broadway. One of the best musicals that I ever saw in my 15 years living in NYC. It was perfect.
+LadyAegle Prior before Millie, she was a replacement Sandy in the 1994 revival of Grease, the 20th Anniversary of ANNIE (as the Star To Be), and Eponine in Les Miz. Originally she was offered Les Miz on Broadway but decided to do the World Premiere of Throughly Modern Millie in La Jolla. She originally was in the Ensemble and understudied Millie. However, Erin Dilly got a terrible cold and dropped out of the show. Sutton moved from the chorus to the starring role.
M. Harvey I actually think she was a BETTER fit for the role than Julie Andrews - I find her voice much more appropriate for the 20’s jazz style. Julie Andrews is perfect for the more classical style roles that made her famous. Also Sutton is obviously more of a dancer!
I am in love with Sutton Foster. I loved her in "Anything Goes" and now I found "Thoroughly Modern Millie", discovering how she got this part. I love her! I cannot believe her story, but she was definitely perfect. Her voice, I could listen to all day. Doesn't miss a note. I have the song, "Gimmie Gimmie" stuck in my head all day!
If you can do such a fabulous job as an actress, singer..and still be really nice..a good person..well, that is the secret to success... There are plenty of talented people who are not nice...and they do not go as far as Sutton....
Wow, what a great memory. My wife and I went to see this shortly after Sutton won the Tony. I didn't know any of her work. After the show at the Marriott, we were so impressed by her talent, we had to meet her. We waited for her and she was very shy but very nice. I've followed her work since that night. I met her once more in Chicago a couple years back, just before Anything Goes. She did a cabaret style night and was terrific. Went to see here closing week in Anything Goes, what a pro!!!
I absolutely love this musical. I can't wait to perform the part of Millie in February! I just need to trade vocal chords with Sutton Foster for 3 days...
Sutton Foster is just my favorite person and my inspiration to musical theatre. She has a voice of an angel and is able to belt her face off, she’s an amazing, fiery actress, and her dancing is so ON POINT. She’s also such an amazing down to earth person. She’s won two tonys and been nominated for several others but still is so humble.
It’s pretty interesting to note that this show not only gave Sutton Foster her big break, but it also greatly improved the profiles of Gavin Creel and Marc Kudisch
Loved this show. I saw it with my folks during our first visit to New York City on a Broadway Show tour. Such a happy memory. We saw The Producers, Urine Town and this. Great show to see on your NYC experience. My mom just recently died 3 weeks ago, but seeing this reminds me of the magic time we had together. Thanks for posting.
We did this show for our Spring musical except in the midwest we dont have many chinese people, let alone in drama, so we instead changed Meers' minions to Bernardo and Carlos (hispanic ethnicity) and it was really great. So many fond memories!
Some schools just cast white people as the Chinese brothers. You don't have to change the ethnicity just because you don't have the proper representation of it in a high school production lol.
I'm playing Millie and we open in two weeks!! I have yet to see Sutton play Millie other than her performances on talk shows. I have to inspire my character off the best!!!!! ❤️
Harriet Harris is a comedic gem. She gave me one the biggest, longest-lasting laughs I've ever had in the theater when I saw this live. My giggles went on all through the next scene. Thanks for posting.
Oh, there's much worse, but for the time this is pretty decent. There's worse videos from the past year, plus it's clear this guy's filming more for fun and their own personal entertainment.
@@edieroth I mean also to be fair, RU-vid didn't exist when this show came out, or even when it closed I think. And with many shows that come out when this did, if not before, it is difficult to find many bootlegs (The Wild Party, The Secret Garden, etc). If a show was still running to this year but opened before the mid 2000s, then yeah there will likely be many bootlegs of it on here. This also doesn't apply to every show lol. It's been tricky sometimes to find certain modern (no pun intended haha) shows on here, so it probably just depends on the show itself (including popularity) , and yeah, also when it came out lol
it’s not. it’s well filmed. he’s got a great seat for filming and he films the majority of what’s going on and zooms in and out. the quality, well, it’s from 2002!!! and it’s actually not the worst quality for 2002. there is MUCH MUCH MUCH worse. audio isn’t bad either. the only bad thing about the bootleg is the camera guy calling the ladies on Stage ”sluts”. i still think he’s cool for filming this though.
The Chinese dudes went from speaking Cantonese to singing in Chinese. I speak Mandarin Chinese and I understood only 10% of what they were singing. That aside, LOVE SUTTON AND GAVIN!
Did they have subtitles for the Cantonese? Seems like the audience was reacting to it pretty well (I speak the language, so I got the jokes and stuff).
Yeah, the twins speak in Cantonese and sing in Mandarin. I speak neither, but I was in the play at my camp and it was said in the script what languages they speak.
Like so many others, my school is doing it this year. I'm going to be a background character, but I don't mind. I just wanna know who was casted for who. The auditions were awhile ago, but I never checked the results ^^;
omg i loved this musical, as a kid my mom worked on it omg i love this and Sutton your absolutly amazing :):):)I LOVE THIS MUSICAL :):):):):): THANKS YOU SOOO MUCH MISSPOOCHSMOOCH
I'm also Mrs. Meers, and the Choreographer (who also happens to be my dance teacher) is putting me in the opening number... I have to get ready for Meersie in
Oh my days. This is when people were just discovering who Sutton was. 🥰 The girl still got it. So incredibly talented in so many ways. Have to say though, the quick change in the title song gave me anxiety. Especially the wig.
Just wasn't filmed on the right night: some of us knew, and at the end of the show everyone there recognized. you could tell by the standing ovation that didn't end..
