They cut my favorite parts out of this version. The part talking about different wars gave context for the little dance the Leading Player does, and the parts with the body parts being thrown on stage with the circus music was really striking. Also the whole “The gates of heaven await/Thrown wide By Charles the Great” line! The Leading Player is absolutely hypnotic here, though. Such a great casting choice.
i definitely agree, but if you watch closely in the backyard, the circus members are still miming killings! just hard to see in this recording. i saw the tour of this revival and they did the same there.
@@gracekeddy You can see everything better here, in this still recording from the tour. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zjsdJzDCsxc.html
I first saw pippin in 2007 when my high school did it (our leading player, shit you not, was dressed like Brendon Urie). It was interesting but I sort of forgot it. I remembered the play last year after I got an internet in acting and Patina Miller made this a dream role for me. She’s amazing in every way.
Im usually a bit underwhelmed by most leading players because I’m a HUGE Ben vereen fan, but I think patina does an AMAZING JOB. It’s a different vibe but she does an amazing job filling some big shoes
she is SO GOOD. i recently saw the Ciera Renne version of this revival with her playing the "Leasing Player" character and have to admit I was COMPLETLY and 100% UNDER WHELEMED on comparing it to the origin AND MASTER of this part being STILL having been "Ben Vereen"... THAT WAS BEFORE I was blessed with having came across this amazing Patina Miller version of "The Lead Player" in Pippin and I am SO HAPPY to see that she did SUCH AN amazing job in comparison's to the other revival version I went to see which had the "Ciera Renne" version of this character and while she was still very good, it was NO WHERE NEAR THE animated level of Ben Vereen OR This great Patina Miller version.. she is just as great and animated as Ben Vereen was and she did deserve the Tony award for this!! So happy I was able to stumble across tbis video!!
I saw that show in 2013. Before the show began, I saw Matthew James Thomas at the stage door. This was at seven pm. He was shooting the breeze with some of his cast members. I took pictures with him. This and the show began at 7:30 p.m.!

Ann Pourqisuo this was the only bootleg i could find, but you could hop onto twitter or reddit to see if they may know. i see a lot of bootlegs on there
Wow. The Ben Vereen influence is strong in the choreography. Or is that the point? Is it supposed to be the same? I’ve watched a few versions where they switch it up… and it’s horrible. (Pardon my ignorance. I know Bob Fosse was the choreographer, but I didn’t know if they were allowed to stray.) She’s fantastic.
this was a great performance, but I feel like it looses so much gravitas when you remove the anti-war theme of the original. the original had all these macabre and chilling moments, and was a true commentary. I missed the "gates of heavens await" bit at the end and the listing of death counts of various wars like top hits on the radio. that being said, patina miller is phenomenal, and this was a well done performance.
