**DISCLAIMER**
It's sad I have to "officially" announce something like this but since I know how some Internet folks work... I love Italy and Italians. Me calling them crazy actually is a compliment. Just how I like to get called crazy myself. I'm genuinely happy every time I come across other quick riders. Because I know exactly why they do what they do.
---
general INFO: In August 2015 I rode my bruised Honda CB500 off into Italy. To follow my holy quest of real-world-meeting potentially awesome people whom I know through my Schaaf Social Media pages. The folks I've met were all brilliant by the way.
I obviously tried to capture some RAW videos for you guys while I was there. Unfortunately my bike was not at a 100%. The Little Honda was safe to ride but I simply couldn't afford to repair all the broken bits before I took off. So while riding I had to get used to the following issues:
Steering head bearing age-worn - causing slight issues while slow riding (will replace next season)
Front brake caliper age-worn - I only had about 50% of the bike's usual brake force at disposal (will replace next season)
Rear wheel bearing busted - causing the bike to unexpectedly keep its lean/riding direction while going through slower corners. While riding I thought all the steering issues came from the head bearing. After the trip I discovered the completely dissolved middle bearing of the rear wheel while disassembling the rear wheel in order to change the bike's chain. I had no idea my bike was constantly grinding up the bearing parts inside the back wheel while riding. I thought the metallic clanging noise came from the chain
Stuck chain links - I replaced chain and sprockets after the trip
Broken chain guard / swing arm protection - the thick rubber piece to guide the chain over the bike's swing arm fell apart. Causing the chain to hit the metal swing arm. Which quickly sent the chain into Nirvana.
Adjusting screw for the clutch lever broke - Resulting in me not being able to adjust the clutch's friction point. I had to get used to a completely new friction/biting point which made exact rev-matching while down shifting a lot harder.
Luckily with time I got used to most of the issues and I could almost ride as fast as I wished to. Not quite at this point of the trip yet but you'll see a quicker pace in the later videos.
---
specific INFO: Welcome to early August 2015. This is me riding down the south-western side of Stelvio until I hit the city of Bormio. It's much nicer to ride than the iconic north-eastern part of the pass. Some people describe Stelvio pass as the best driving road in the world. Which is complete bullshit. I myself haven't been on a lot of mountain passes but even I've seen a lot of roads which were way more fun to ride than Stelvio. But in my opinion the mountain views you'll get on Stelvio road are simply breathtaking and probably one of the most impressive ones in the whole of the Alps. No wonder there's a lot of traffic going on. The scenery is mind-blowing. In my opinion even the mountainous paradise of Austria - my homecountry - doesn't offer views quite as spectacular as the ones you'll get on the iconic Stelvio pass.

They were faster on the straights, harder on the brakes... And you still caught up to them every time! Nice riding, especially considering the size of the road and the traffic. This looks like a bucket list destination for every rider!

Fantastic! I've already loved the part 1, but the part 2 is even better! 😍 Now, there is probably an Italian motovlogger who has posted a video of his ride at the Stelvio pass, asking to his subscribers: "Do you know this guy riding a Honda CB 500 in touring mode with a GoPro? It was f**cking hard to pass him, and he kept following us so easily..." 😉 I

Nice ride. In 2014 after having watched lots of Alps Riding vidoes I contacted a guy down there named Derpanzer Bau. I went there for a month from the UK and rode (& drank) with them. I learned so much and it made me a better, faster rider. Love the Alps. wish I could live close to there. France & Italy have way more respect for 2 wheels than the British. In the UK everyone has Island mentality. They all own their little piece of road. And I agree, Italians are crazy but we love them!

Got to love the CB500 for the twisties! Totally appreciate the brake comment though. After jumping off a twin disc bike & onto the CB it's a world of difference.Great vid none the less. Thanks for posting.

thanks man. Actually the CB500 brakes very well once the brake gets a good maintenance. I did that the year after that. Huge difference.

Maybe it's my master cylinder that's just a bit tired. I've got a 1999 CB500 with EBC HH pads & HEL lines (& no air) but it still takes a bit of lever action for the brakes to properly bite. I've also got an '07 FZ1N too though so it takes a bit of getting used to when jumping back onto the CB. Pic of my babies: i.imgur.com/e8uvLoE.jpg

Not too bad, not too bad. Respect for keeping up with those quicker and better braking bikes. I'm sure it was as much fun to ride with them as for us to watch.

Maybe it's the 15th time i see that video, it's fuckin' amazing.. that ride type.. those awesome landscapes.. you're great Schaaf! It's incredible to see how much you can do with that lil' CB500.. I wanna know which tyres do u fit in your CB. I gotta GS500E (1991) and mines are already gone.. i wanna change, and who's better than you to show me which ones are better (The ones you fit, hahaha) Keep being awesome Schaaf!

I'm italian, and I love to watch your video! In my city there is a figure of speech that says "Che scimmia di salire in moto"...that means "What a desire to ride my bike" while I watch your videos :)

Hey bro, loving your videos. Respect the fact when you spoke the truth lol. I'm not really a role model on the road either, so i try not to rage. Massive props to the editing. The small touches are really amazing. Off topic, i have a question regarding a wired microphone for audio recording. Any suggestions? (I already have a Zoom H2N and i hate it because of numerous reasons. Not exactly the best thing for daily commuter like me.
@Schaaf

thanks a lot Ahmad. Unfortunately I don't have suggestions regarding a wired microphone. I still use my ZOOM H-1 externally, without any cables

Awesome views and committed riding Schaaf.Do you go back and ride back and admire the views for the 2nd time? I would have to because of the concentration required.Bloody fun you had with those two as well😎

always depends. On this day I had a target destination to reach before dark. Since I lost around 2 hours beforehand trying to fix my swingarm protection there was no time left for a second run. I even had to cancel one mountain pass that day because of time running out :(

Schaaf, you have no idea how lucky you are. These roads are AMAZING! Here in Perth, Western Australia, the roads are flat, straight and very boring (not to mention there aren't many roads here to explore). You not only ride amazing, twisty roads but look at that view! Wow! Please can you tell me, if I were to visit Italy, how much would it cost to hire a motorcycle? Do you know if tourists can buy motorcycles from the locals? I really want to go to this very road and explore this amazing country by motorcycle.
@Schaaf

you can rent motorcycles in most big cities. No idea about the costs though.
