I enjoyed hearing about your sewing projects. My mom is an amazing seamstress. However, a little over a year ago he got GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome). In her case it was extremely aggressive. She lost complete control of her body. She is very slowly improving but is still on a ventilator. She is able to open her eyes again and move her head and shoulders. She is starting to be able to move her legs but only a very little. Last time I was able to visit her she told me how much she is looking forward to being able to sew again. Long story to say that your talk about sewing reminded me of my mom when she was able to sew.
Beautiful FOs. Something to consider, when I go up a size or two due to gauge, I will still use the depths of whatever size I usually am / would be if I hit gauge. Otherwise your garment will fit width wise (usually what we care about with gauge) but not depth wise. It’s not hard to do at all. Just cast on what the larger size says but knit to what the smaller size says. I also do a bit of math when it comes to sleeves if there are decreases along the length. It’s not hard just uses a bit of fractions.
That’s a good idea! We’re both getting more comfortable with deviating from pattern instructions, but it’s definitely easy to just fall into rhythm and forget things like that which would help the final fit!
Yea!! So much better audio with the new microphones! Thanks, as always, for your content and consistent episodes. I really enjoy watching you gals and your knitting projects!!
Jessica, you look stunning in that blue top! And Rachel, re-doing that dress was so worth it, it turned out absolutely beautiful and you look great in it!
There could never be too many videos from you two! Everything is stunning as always! I was working on my Brady Loop Cardigan while watching (only had a total of three warm days the last few month so still happy to work away on some wooly knits).
That is so kind of you to say! 🥹 also very jealous of your cooler weather right now! It was 100 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday in KC, so it seems like it’s shaping up to be a hot summer!
Fun video and excellent audio quality. Love the color of the Tee. No.1. 💙 Great job on the sewing projects! I enjoyed knitting along with y'all. I worked on my Tolsta Tee. 🧶 I hope to post a video about it soon. I can't wait to see the progress of y'alls projects!
Love the discussion about the neckline detail today … I perseverate about the details of finishing also 😃😂🥰🧶 Omgosh! The “fix” on your dress looks awesome! Great job 😃👏🏼🧵🪡
I love your podcasts! You are so happy and light hearted, you make my day! Twins are my favorites! Your sewing and knitting projects are beautiful . I loved your dresses and the Pomona pants! The lacy socks are gorgeous. Jessica I love your brown summer top with its beautiful textures. Can’t wait for your next episode. Keep it coming. Yours is one of my top favorites! Right now I’m making socks while it’s been so hot here. 🧦🩷🧶Katie Love from a fellow knitter in Maine
You both sound great! I so enjoy all your projects. I especially like your pattern and color choices in your socks. Your podcasts are very fresh and encouraging. Thank you!
Thank you so much for talking about your Sabai top. I casted it on this morning and thought I had done something wrong that I had three plain knit rounds before I started the ribbing. I finished my aperitif hour top while watching:)
I had to catch up with video due to life happening. But wanted to say You two are soo inspiring with your knits and your Sewing makes. You with is outstanding
I was working on my Ozetta moon set tee while watching this lovely episode, and I have also started the Margaux top after seeing how lovely you ladies look in them! Have a great summer!
The Margaux Top is on my needles. I am in the beginning stages of the pattern, though. I have also been working on the Tulip Jumper by Melody Hoffman (bought the yarn in KC when I was driving by!) and the Seaside Knitted Dress by Marta Porcel.
A suggestion to reduce the size of the Sabai armhole: you can pick up a small number of stitches (say 6 or so) at the bottom of the armhole, and then knit back and forth, creating short rows, increasing the number of stitches on each side. I would do this using a smaller needle, which would cinch it in a bit, and then I would use a simple needle bind-off to keep it from stretching open. Watching along as I finish my Margaux, and eyeing an old celery green linen tablecloth...
I love that electric blue! I have been thinking of patterns to knit in that colour for months, initially I wanted to knit the Montrose sweater by Cocoamour knitwear but then I started doubting it... haha Your knits are beautiful, inspiring as always!!
I was so excited when I saw your video! I made that bf bestie bag too, mine was in cordoroy (spelling?). So my strap attachment seam is hidden, it was a lot of layers. My strap is also long, but when you use it as cross body it’s nice to have the extra length.
Hi girls ;) Love your podcast, your yarn choices, and all the beautiful patterns you choose to knit! I also looove your sewing, even though I do not know anything about sewing. I would love to learn. Did you take a class? Any advice for someone very interested on how to get started? Thank you.
All the knitting and sewing projects look beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. Rachel, can i ask how much yarn you used for your Sabai Top (or how much it weighs)? I am thinking of making it with Tynn Line held double and not sure how much yarn to order (or if i have enough yarn in stash). I am really inspired to make the Margaux top as well after seeing your version(s). Jess, that caramel colour is so pretty. Thanks for the inspiration. :)
Thank you so much!! I used 4 skeins but I have leftovers from 2, I’m guessing around 20 grams.. so it might be possible to get away with 3 skeins, especially if you crop things often! I think the Tynn line doubled has really beautiful drape and feels lightweight but doesn’t have too loose of a gauge so I am super happy with it for the Sabai top 😊
I would love to have more frequent uploads whenever you guys are able to do them! I always eagerly await your podcasts. So many beautiful projects this time around, as always - thanks for sharing!!
On your black handbag, your sewing machine may not be to blame. Sometimes switching out the needle makes all the difference. There are even "leather" needles that are very sharp and may be used on synthetics. There is also a device called a "jean-a-ma-jig" that you put either behind or in front of a section you are sewing that has a lot of thickness. It helps the feed dog adjust between multiple thicknesses and few thicknesses.
Oh this is so good to know!! I’ll definitely look into both the needle and the “jean-a-ma-jig” (what a perfect name 😅) next time I work with a thick material like this! Thank you!
I worked on my Florence bag while watching and I'm almost done now!!!! Do you like the straps you ordered? I've heard that the dye rubs off of them and transfers to clothes super easily so I've held off ordering the Petiteknit strap....
That’s good to know! Once we both get around to actually sewing them on we’ll let you know how they wear! Love that you’re also making a Florence bag!! 😍
When you buy a sewing pattern online, do you print it out and tape it together or do you have a business print it out on bigger paper and pick it up at the store or have it mailed? Thank you... great episode and always love ALL your makes😊
I was work8ng on the Catedral sweater whilrcwatching your podcsst. The sleev3s are finished and I judt finished the bsck hem short rows while watching. Now yhis will be my mindless knit until I reach the patterning on the ypke. Also knitting the cordelia tee with an allover, but east dable once the increas3s are done. I am still do8ng sleeve increases. Enjoy your pocastveven though I don't sew and am much older than you and your sewing proect vwouldn't work for me. N8ce to keep in touch woth a younger generation. Ps I am a retired teacher.
I’ve stopped weaving in ends as I go on a garment…just because if I need to rip to make changes for some reason it’s easier if the ends aren’t woven in. (ask me how I know😂)
I was surprised to hear Rachel say she'll wear her beautiful socks with ballet slippers/shoes. I would have thought the knit fabric would be too thick. Do you have to go up a half size on shoes? Just curious, love your podcasts!
It really depends!! Lace socks are usually pretty airy and feel a little thinner, but socks with cables or a dense fabric can be too thick for shoes most of the time for me 😅
I know the length struggles. I have long arms and legs. Whenever I knit sleeves they take forever. I need 26 inches from my shoulder to make them full length...
This is Jess :) I usually keep them until I’m playing yarn chicken. I have a drawer full of them that I keep telling myself I’ll do something with eventually, but for now they either sit in the drawer or get used as a coaster!
@@thosetwinswhoknit I started saving my swatches after watching Mia from Knit and Grace talk about making the Swatch Bag by Skaberglaede Maria (pattern available on Ravelry). I don't have enough yet but I hope to at some point!
If you measure the length of the inseam on a pair of pants the length that you like, then add hem allowance This will be the length you need to cut for your new pair.
Hmm since the neckline starts by knitting in the round with increases at the shoulder, I’m not sure that there would be enough “strap” to take back and Kitchener. Someone suggested some short rows at the bottom, which might be an option, though!!
