YOu can buy a 4" pvc tube the length of your shelf, cut it on half lengthways and drill a little hole in each corner. Put some wire that can be suspended from each end plant but under all the rest too. Drill a hole in the centre of the curve in one end and install some fish tank tubing so it runs into a bucket. When you water hang each end of the tube off the 2 end plants on the shelf. Put the tube into a bucket underneath the tube. Water away, it drips into the pvc pipe and will run down the pipe and out the tube in the end and into the bucket. If it's slow you can lift one end and speed up the drainage. This way you can water each pot, walk away until they stop dripping and move it to any other shelf you like. WOW. I impressed myself, I just thought this up. LOL

I have an idea for your plant wall. It would mean reconfiguring, but I think it could work well. Instead of using the pot latch hooks, you could use plant holder rings and then set a saucer in the ring. This would also mean you dont have to use a specific type of pot. It would also allow you to repot with more versatility bc as long as the pot fits the saucer that is in the ring, it will be fine. Thrift stores usually have cheap glassware that would work great bc you would easily see the water is draining. (All of my "saucers" are thrift store glassware). Hope you get it figured out! 😉

I think you should really try citrus indoors. They don’t need as much as you would think. I’m in Washington state and have producing Meyer Lemon and Persian Lime tree, a variegated lemon tree just starting to flower, and growing a Valencia orange tree I got last year all in my solarium/office (north facing) with only natural light. I’m amazed myself how well they do.

Collect the mini sanseveria species for that small row on the plant wall, you might have to separate them eventually but that would be a low effort small plant to fill that row on the wall!

I’ve had great results using Fluval stratum. I use it 50/50 with perlite for cuttings or rehabbing. For long term use I mix it in my aroid mix or use it in my semi-hydro mix (2 parts “pon”, 1 part stratum, 1 part perlite). I’ve moved about 3/4 of my plants (anthurium, monstera, alocasia, philos, even succulents) to the semi-hydro in self watering pots because it allows me to travel for 7 to 10 days without having to rely on anyone to water plants ✈️ I think you might really like it!

Oh great video Becca, I love all of your videos with your repots and advice on plant care. Those plants that you potted up are so beautiful. I love that soil mixture of yours. I have 2 Bonnie spider plants and those are so wonderful, but that large spider plant with the big baby was really cool and I have never seen this one in person. I am also a Hoya freak I have so many and just love them so much, the only thing I am dealing with now is those stupid mealy bugs, this is my first time that I have ever gotten them and I keep spraying and washing the plants and so far the mealy bugs are dying and going away, even though I have lost a lot of leaves on some of my Hoya, they are getting better. I wish you a Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow, my birthday is 3 days after Valentine's Day on the 17th. Sending love and hugs, bye! 🤗😍💜💜💜👋👍🙏

You don't have to plant directly into the terra cotta pots for your plant wall. I use the same type of clips and often use terra cotta pots as cover pots, and put plants that are in plastic pots (like aroids, orchids, and epiphytes) inside them. Expands the range of what I can put on the wall.

Fluval is fluval stratum and is used as an aquarium substrate, typically! Great for aquatic plants. And in houseplant use is similar to like pon or other soilless or hydro methods. I can’t wait to see your video on it because it’s expensive and I’m not sure if I’m sold on it yet 😅 Other people really seem to love it through

I think the mold issues have a lot to do with the kind of fertilizer you use. I used an organic one for some time, and all of my terracotta pots got moldy, because of the organic matter that runs through the pores.

@@thestoltzfus3657 sorry I’m just seeing this reply haha, but I just water mine when it gets wrinkly but it’s usually bone dry at the point so I’ll let it soak/bottom water after I initially run some water through so I make sure it entirely drenched. And obviously make sure it’s getting a decent amount of light, other then that I don’t really do much for it:)

Hi Becca! Fluval Stratum is a media for plants and shrimp in fish tanks. Treat it the same way you would use leca or Pon with a small amount of water on the bottom of the container. It's pure magic. It's not meant for long term (it breaks down into a powder over time), and you do still have to supplement with a hydroponic fertilizer. There's two different bags, you want the one with the red banners and not the blue banners (bio-stratum). This stuff is magic, you will love it!!

If you mount like a corrugated metal sheeting, or seal some breadboard with boat grade sealant, you could put that on the wall behind the plant mounts and a trough at the bottom to catch the water

I ordered a clementine tree from Fast Growing Trees and it was really great. They had a issue with some sort of disease in some of their citrus trees and mine was one of the infected ones, so they shipped me a brand new tree and it is super happy. I keep it outside, but brought it inside for the first winter and it put it next to a window with a grow light and it has been growing like crazy!

I also love my spider plants! They are so forgiving and hardy! I remember that in the 90s people used to have “airplane” plants and those were like the bigger and usually no variegation , but my Grandpa did have a variegated one. They were also not as hardy from what I remember. The spider ones were the smaller ones and always variegated and would take over flower beds and planters haha.

My terracotta pots mold for like the 1st week then it goes away. I think it’s because the soil symbionts get established and the springtails find their way to the plant then. I sometimes get algae in my water loving plants other wise they stay pretty clean until some salt build ups appear after like a year or so

Liked the video! Don't you worry to have the different soil types in one pot when you let the old (peat) soil stay around the roots and only fill the rest with the good draining "de la tanks" soil? The watering is required differenty for the two parts, isn't it? Many people don't recommend that...otherwise, when I removed the soil completely and repotted, I often got root rot...because the roots were not established in the new soil mix and couldn't take in the water.. what's the best solution for that? Excited for answers! Greetings from North -Germany 💚🌿🌱

In my personal experience, there’s no reason you ‘have’ to remove babies from spider plants 🤷‍♀️ I more often than not just leave them on unless they come off themselves Edit to add: to your gutters, you could just place a metal shelf with a lip and install it on the slightest angle? The water isn’t going to be like, POURING out so splashing shouldn’t be too bad an issue? Maybe make the wall-side of the gutter-shelf higher/taller than the outer lip? You could even use clear acrylic if you didn’t want it so visually obvious

That sounds so horrible trying to keep up with plant trends! I only get plants that I like and not the ones that everyone seems to have... Even if someone says how this and this is her favorite, I don't really make purchasing choices based on that but solely on what I think is beautiful or interesting to get. I don't necessarily want every free space filled with pots so some consideration has to be done what I love so much that I have to own it myself. I've done a wish list of plants so I'm quite happy having plants waiting on it, without me rushing to get them when I see them somewhere. Weirdly I've noticed that if a plant is easy to care for, I love it less than if it has some challenges.
