Very nice review of the first two movies. Your critiques are well founded as well. In regards to the omission of the crimson night intermissions, the team attempted to exchange them wholesale with the mentioned dream sequences, but i feel like they give entirely different feelings depending on what medium of the story you are experiencing. I also see your point in regards to illya and kotomine. The team used the time t9 focus on sakura instead. Which while ultimately correct, takes away from the other hardhitting parts of the story. As for the third movie, ive already seen it so i can say that it largely follows similar trajectory of the previous movies although to a much better degree. Monologues are huge due to the nature of visual novels; and while these movies are very enjoyable on their own, anime only fans will perhaps be somewhat confused or missing the weight of context in specific scenes. I also question whether or not shirous suffering will be understood after all is said and done due to the limitations of the medium.
Most of my critiques were from the fact that I had read the visual novel, and was just disappointed at the fact that some of my favorite scenes weren't included. Though it is sad to see Illya and Kotomine's screentime get cut, I think Sakura was handled very well throughout these movies. I just hope it doesn't take too long for the Spring Song Bluray to be released because I am very interested in how they handled many of the memorable moments that take place, and the most recent trailer looks gorgeous. @Alien 👽 I'm currently caught up with the manga and loved it. That's a shame to hear they stopped working on it, I had just thought they were taking their time with it. I agree, it was such an amazing adaptation that needed more recognition.
My thought on movie 3 Animation and visual - 10/10 Story - 7.5/10 Sound - 9/10 Negative - Lack explanation about Jewel sword Still pissed off about cutting Illya and Kirei character development Poor explanation about the Third magic itself despite being Heaven's feel movie Where is Shirou pain? Positive - I like Kerei Baptism rite scene (9/10) Great Salter vs Rider fight Great Ost (Especially Rule breaker scene) I love how they made the ending look beautiful
I agree with you. The story and characters was lacking in some areas and many scenes I was looking forward to was cut. Everything you brought up we're things I was pretty much disappointed in as well. My major gripe with it was the final fight between Shirou and Kotomine. They cut the fight in half which was extremely unexpected. It was one of my favorite scenes in the VN and is a shame it didn't get the live it deserved. But watching it a second time and going in with a different mindset made it more enjoyable. The OST is my favorite of all time with Four Rings being mind-blowing in the Salter Vs. Rider fight. Some of the scenes were adapted very cleverly which I appreciated. If it just had some extra time, I felt it could have a been a solid 9/10.

@@xgenshin4077 It's difficult to say. The HF adaptation has a few scenes I feel surpass the original material, but many more that take away from what I loved about the VN. I loved the first two movies with how Sakura, the shadow, and the pacing was handled, but as a result major character moments for Rin, Kirei and Illya we're cut. They weren't perfect, but for how condensed the content made some changes and alterations that were for the better. My biggest problem is with the third film. I felt there was too much story and character moments cut to keep me attached. Most of the fights and the Grail War's origin was the highlight for me. Even though I'm harsh on the adaptation I still think It's a 7.5-8 for how enjoyable the majority of the movies are. It may not be as deep or complex, but they are undoubtedly entertaining and have their merits.
