Those four chaos marine models made by Jes Goodwin are the gold standard of the classic chaos marine look. I have two of the "Nurgle" marine models. I'm hoping to get a few of those classic rubric marine ones, they are perfection.

Those 4 Jes Goodwin chaos models were sold on a MTO last year (Sold as the Traitors of Chaos), they all had those 2000 era backpacks as well!

I think this is one of your best paint jobs. Looks fantastic, and you nailed the old 2nd Ed colours/appearance. Those Citadel Miniature catalog B&W images brought back a massive wave of nostalgia.

I bought a couple of the Khorne Marines back in the day and when a set of the 4 classic Jes Goodwin sculpts appeared at our local GW store my son bought them and has painted them, very expertly I might add. Cracking job on the freehand tzeentchy badge. It's not easy doing it over ridgey cloth bits, good effort. Also I expected the song to be a riff on Carry On My Wayward Son, only with "Thousand" instead of "Wayward". This is still good.

I didn't play 2nd edition, though I bought my first minis during that edition. So I mostly remember going up against these from 3rd edition onwards. If I remember correctly, you needed dedicated anti-tank weapons to dakka the Thousand Sons Marines off the table. Which, if you played Space Marines, dedicating a Devastator squad or a Predator Annihilator to dealing with them. Or charging them with Terminators, as power fists, and thunder hammers dealt with them nicely in melee.

I got this exact model a few months ago, along with a 2002 Rubric Marines squad, which was 9 regular chaos space marines with the same upgrades you showed off later in the video. It's like I needed that one 1991 Rubric Marine to go along with it to make a full squad of 10. Hope my paint job will turn out as good as yours.

Your helmet crest BLOWS ALL THIRTY SIX of them I painted back in the day out of the water For my army from Codex Chaos Space Marines (3.5) I had 3 Squads of Rubric Marines and One squad of Rubric Terminators I converted from Loyalist Plastic Terminators and Metal Thousand Son heads.

Apparently the last edition sort of came back to grand buffet armies; undivided Chaos Marines were described as having mono god warbands within them. In the modern Black Legion, these warbands were Bringers of Decay (Plague Marines), Sons of the Cyclops (Rubric Marines), Hounds of Abaddon (Berserkers) and Children of Torment (Noise Marines).

I heard they're canonically called "Thousand sons" because they originally had an M next to their legion for Magnus' sons, and M is the Roman numeral for 1000, so someone misinterpreted what it meant and began calling them thousand sons

Never been able to find those organic backpacks in metal but I am sure they existed. I have a an original chaos renegade model that deserves one but my search continues. Love how your army is slowly growing to include all the chaos warbands. Just need the emperors children and I am highly interested in how you'd paint them.

I would have cast him with some blue stuff and milliput. Oldhammer minis are sacred relics and expensive as all hell. But also out of production. There is no dishonour in making a few castings. Food for thought.

the wave of 40k nostalgia has made finding things on ebay cost almost more than the currently over-priced miniatures that gw is selling. oof. I have been looking for thousand suns, plague marines, knorne berserkers, and daemons of every god, and its just nasty how high the costs are. Love the paint job you did.

@@Miniscape-wh40k That was a spot of hyperbole. A TSM is the perfect chance to play with alternative materials, specifically, gold leaf. If there's a single reason why I'll no be going back to GW it's that they have ruthlessly eviscerated any of the anarchic glee of the original biker boyz. In the end, even very good painting by numbers is still painting by numbers.

I want to say "i like how stripped down and simplified 10th edition is". But when ive gone back and looked at okd codexes especially for my guard, the rules, GWs simplification has also removed almost all the flavor out of 40k....

@Miniscape-wh40k the guard doesn't field the numbers it used to. Not to mention things like the Griffon and Malcador which was locked behind the FW pay wall for years is FINALLY a 30k tank however GW suckered me into the solar auxilia box set only for 30k to be basically unsupported and my friend was like "oh yeah should have told you we only have like 3 varients of the like 10 that exist and GWs idea of supporting 30k this year was just give us a shit load of tanks just like they did with 40k.
