Thousands gathered at Béal na Bláth in Co Cork where a ceremony was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins. The Taoiseach described Collins as “one of the greatest Irishmen to have ever lived”. It was the first time both the leaders of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, the parties formed by the opposing sides in the civil war, addressed the annual commemoration.
