Our recent trip to the Dry Tortugas and the imposing Fort Jefferson ended up being more than a touristy day out or a history lesson in coastal fortresses. The whole experience was a reminder of the plight of Cuban migrants, the present immigration crisis, and the uncertain future these people face.

Many people in the US have no idea how well off they are. We should all be thankful for the trials and tribulations of our forefathers who sacrificed through overwhelming odds to keep the freedom that so many who are less fortunate risked their very lives to obtain. You guys make Mondays more palatable. Thank you both for entering my life.

I'm 75 - I was raised in Florida - Melbourne Beach. My Grandparents used to vacation in Cuba. I have never understood the animas against Cuba - Bay of Pigs? Hemingway documented a lot of the good in Cuba? Cuban missile crises - I remember fighter jets flying overhead for days 24/7 - Patrick AFB was just north of us. We have visited Florida many times and were married on the beach in Key West. Found a Great Cuban restaurant (Al Ambia Cubana) in Melbourne that was started by a Cuban pilot that flew a DC3 with I believe 55 passengers to Florida.

Like what your saying and appreciate the plight of the immigrants face crossing oceans, but 2000 a year from Cuba is not that bad. We have 2000 per DAY crossing from Mexico into Texas. With inflation don't know the answer but we have to do something. Keep cruising and learning.
