Thousands showed up for a protest of the U.S. military in Okinawa. Three quarters of the American military bases in Japan are on the small island. In May, Kenneth Shinzato, an ex-Marine who worked on base, was arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 20-year-old Okinawan woman. Adrianna Diaz has more.

@adolft_official Imaging comparing some religions figure from thousands of years ago to what American colonizers are doing today, just to play whataboutism to cover up US atrocities. Disgusting American imperialism apologist.

Okinawa undoubtedly has a problem with the US military because a large percentage of those personnel are Marines. Unaccompanied Marines are like a loose canon. They’re young guys. Think about it. I suspect there is hardly any issue with the US Air Force personnel on our air bases. Those personnel are usually older, more responsible, and simply reasonable in their interactions with the “local nationals” as we know them to be. I lived in Japan as a very young child in the 1950s and enjoyed that experience very much. Later, when there with my flying crew, I was there in the 1980s and saw that the Marine side of our military is being highly irresponsible. For example, I was downtown one day at a small city on Okinawa and a saw a group of Marines approaching. One of them was wearing a t-shirt which had a mushroom cloud photo on it, and underneath it, “Built in America. Tested in Japan.” What commander would tolerate such a thing?? Japan is a very strategic partner for the US in the western pacific and I would hate to see an end to that special relationship.

Race has nothing to do with crime. In Japan, criminals are treated the same whether they are white, Asian, or black. However, crimes committed by US forces in Japan involve the US side unequally abusing the Japan-US Status of Forces Agreement.

A U.S. Marine corporal was charged with sexually assaulting and injuring a woman in Okinawa last month. In Okinawa Prefecture, it has just been revealed that a U.S. Air Force soldier was charged with sexually assaulting a young girl, and there is widespread anger and sorrow among the residents of the prefecture over a series of sexual violence cases by U.S. military personnel. The indictment is against U.S. Marine Corporal Jamel Clayton, 21. According to the indictment, Clayton is accused of sexually assaulting and injuring an adult woman he did not know in Okinawa last month.

I saw that on a non U.S. media coverage. Wasn't she just a minor? It's disgusting that a U.S. soldier would do something like that again in Okinawa. Most of the time, the local police can't even talk to the suspect because the military tries to protect their own.

I put a comment on a RU-vid video of this company and it was restricted. It was about U.S. soldiers' sexual crimes in Okinawa, even though they didn't use any discriminatory or prohibited terms. They control the press with a convenient free press and a convenient right to know.
