This monster laid a single egg under the clothes hoist in my backyard about two days ago. No I am not aggravating her unconscionably I have to hang the washing sometime. The wing spurs look lethal but these guys won't hurt you. Their ear splitting threat call is the most dangerous thing about them. They hate dogs though and step up the swooping and screaming accordingly. Saw one take on an osprey once. They are courageous little guys but I'm over the hysteria on washing day I can tell you.

I will never forget a very sad story involving this bird (only read if you are ready to be sad): Was staying on a campground and woke up midnight from the call of this bird, who just wouldn't stop. I went there to check. It was a bird mother and her chicks fell into the gutter. I lifted the gutter under the attack of the mother and tried to get them out but they went deep into the pipe, I waited hoping they would come out but they didn't, other people had a look as well, no solution was found, no hero story that day, just a bird mom calling for hours until it was eeriily quiet in the morning :'( Still makes me sad today and always remember, when I hear that call

Any idea if the eggs can be relocated ?
@islandshack2066
@islandshack2066 3 года назад
I'm told by people smarter than me there's every chance they'll just abandon the relocated nest and return to lay another clutch back on the original site. Given enough days in the season of course. It's 31 days now, and the bird books all say they incubate at, more or less, 28. So I reckon if they haven't hatched by this Friday they are officially infertile and I may well test the veracity of this local folklore.
@alyssiaquan2233
@alyssiaquan2233 3 года назад
Definitely avoid relocation of nest/eggs or touching young offspring the birds are often able to disown and abandon offspring if they have a different scent on them :)
