I have bought bunches of different knives. Over the last 30 years. The last knife I purchased was from top knives called black heat it is what I am carrying now. It cost me 134 dollars new if I remember right. I buy knives off of links on here. Those are good knives as well. My wife thinks I'm nuts. After 33 years of marriages, I have managed to collect a lot of stuff from knives,guns, fishing poles, and reels to everything else. Thanks for this video. You always show practical stuff that is useful. Like that slingshot, I'm going to get one of those. Have a nice day.

I love finding a knife that punches above its price point. And I often find myself excited to modify them, because they're so affordable, I don't feel bad grinding in a new blade shape, or bevel. Often times I modify the sheaths. They're great to have, especially if you have a good knife already that you carry often and just want to explore different skills.
@Sanguivore

The modification is a good point! I like customizing my cheaper tools ‘cos I won’t feel too bad if I mess ‘em up and can get a new one for cheap.

Knife culture is a broad category. In simplest terms there are two. You have Colectors who really dont use there knives. Then you have those that do. Those that do are a mixed bag of nuts. Outdoorsman, martial artists, survivalists and a whole lot more. Im a camper a hiker and traveler. I spend alot of time outdoors. I have alot of knives. Your review gives common sense options of reliable knives that wont break the bank but will still get the job done. I usually have no less than 3 knives on me at any given time. For most tasks ill usually grab the practical inexpensive knife. And the seal pup knock off is my favorite of the three. Very good all around utility knife. Thanks for the review, always good common sense information.

Outstanding presentation. I have the SOG and the SRK. 1. If one doesn't abuse a knife, you don't need the brand name or higher quality unit. My name brand name table steak knives did not work. So, I went to Walmart, bought inexpensive and used up cheap knives that worked. Now I went back to more quality and simply arbitrarily sharpen them every few months. 2. you are absolutely correct that carry sheath can be important. Those knives are lightweight. If a vertical carry works for you, great. I prefer behind the back horizontal carry and this often presents real problems no matter what the qualities and price of a knife.

I usually have to put a new loop further up the sheath because I want to keep the knife tighter no matter what brand. Knives are as personal as it gets,I believe that the perfect one calls to you.

I get almost all of my knives from Amazon--most recently, a Mossy Oak 8" fixie, 4" blade, for pocket carry (in a deep pocket!)---$18. They also offer some great budget folders from Flissa, Eafengrow, and Nedfoss.

Thanks for the video. I haven't bought many knives on Amazon. I like the idea of being able to get numerous inexpensive but functional fixed-blade knives. They can be cached around the house for use as needed. If one had a hunting cabin somewhere, caching a few there would be a good idea. At these prices, one could even cache a few on public land somewhere. If the knives became lost, the financial loss wouldn't be that much. If one had to retrieve them for use someday, they would be very helpful to have.

Those are so cheap you could replace them as soon as they go blunt. Or give one as payment for sharpening the other one. Either way you're not going worry about scratches or anything. Just keep them scattered around. One in the car One in a toolkit One in a backpack Like I do with bic lighters

M-Tech makes some pretty nice budget double edge daggers. I got one with wooden handle, stainless steel solid finger guard and it's hollow ground both sides making the edges very sharp. I just keep it as a self defense knife or boot knife. They make then with rubber handles too for Cheap.

Mtech typically uses decent steel and good tempering. I can't complain about their fixed blade karambits and emergency saw/pry knife.

Well first of all the grandway looks like the best one. That amtech I believe comes in a bunch of colors and I've seen those before but never had one and Zen seal pup is cheaper than the same one sold as the new Bear Grylls Survival Knife. I would buy one of those and use it before I use the seal pups now that the prices have gone up. The same goes for the grandway, it be good to mess around with it before using a buck Vantage. I think they would also be good loners particularly for people that don't know how to treat nice properly or that you know may damage you are a knife. I don't know how long lasting or durable than any of them would be but you could stock a good supply of those in case there's an emergency and you need a knife you can loan somebody

I found a generic version of the Benchmade SOCP dagger on Amazon. I just typed in "boot knife" and it came up. I can't find a review on it anywhere. Says it's 420C steel. If you see it, and fancy it, I'm sure everyone would like to get to know it.

I don't own these knives and can afford avg $100 knives. I did buy a Chinese made Cold Steel (Which gives me no faith in it apart from a poker) but over all I find the worst knives come from Pakistan/India, second worst from China. Where I would start for cheap blades would be Taiwan as they seem to have better companies, the Ontario RAT folders (I and II) are excellent low cost EDC blades. While not tacticool, Morakniv and Opinel brands are still the best bang for the buck. BPS knives from the Ukraine are budget bushcraft knives and I own three.

Would like you to talk/explain abt knife steel quality labeling. Think you've mentioned b4. Fixed blades are mostly illegal for EDC in my state. I have one for hunting/camping. Have two SOG folding knives for EDC. Also a DeWalt & a Snap-on folders. The Snap-on blade is labeled: 7Cr17MoV. Tried to find info abt blade steel codes. Didn't find much of anything. For example, is there a good, better, best rule of thumb? Thanks. 🤔🤔🤔

Question for you, just curious on these three knives, Grand Way, mtect and the zen. Have you ever tried to see how they throw? How good is the balance on them. Or Are they too light and best suited for everyday task? I was just curious.

@411Outdoors Месяц назад

@marctull3596
@marctull3596 Месяц назад
I had the same question as @mikemezerewski6156 - in fact I was hoping to hit the video timer button for “it’s throw time!” I have an Ozark Trails, a Camilius Titanium and an old Gerber that are similar to these knives and I used to throw them a lot when I was learning - but - they are not compatible w/ your throwing style. They are definitely half-spin throwers and spin real fast so you have to stand very close to the target. To get some distance, I now throw a Cold Steel Sure Balance - which is actually a clone of a Tru Balance thrower. 13.5” and just over a pound of merciless flying steel. Definitely not for “no spin.” We are talking old school throwing!

I have two of their 3 1/2 inch folders--a liner lock tanto that was $9.99 (bought it on a whim), and a crossbar half-serrated drop point ($14.99 now, I think). Both excellent--great actions, perfect centering, and sharp. I wouldn't hesitate to get one of their fixed blades the next time I need.

I really prefer either a leather or nylon sheath. I cannot stand the plastic sheaths. Most rattle and make noise. I realize they have there application and purpose though, such as military. Mostly im just carrying or hunting and want the assurance of being quiet. I dont mind a cheap knife as long as it stays sharp a reasonable amount of use. If I tear it up, or lose it, not much lost. $$. I do wish more sheaths would accommodate scout carry though.

My problem here is that these are all obviously super cheap Chinese copies of better American knives (or at least from American companies.) We worry that we are losing industry and economy in our country and yet we throw so much of our money to countries who hate us and want to weaken us. Instead of paying $15 for a knife you'll use carelessly (because it's only a $15 knife) use what you have now, save a few dollars for a year or two and pay $85 for an American made Buck Vanguard made in an American factory by American workers (trying to feed their families) made from American steel designed by a legendary American knifemaker. We've become too complacent and lazy in this country. If we want life to get better here, we have to be willing to pay the price. part of that price includes NOT giving our money to our enemies if it's possible. Do I have a Vietnamese-made iPhone? Yes, because the few phone makers in our country don't make phones compatible with my local rural phone company. If they did, I'd have one of those. However, my knives are made in places like Wintersville, Ohio (LT Wright) and Golden, Colorado (Spyderco.)

Knife designs are one of those things being borrowed from constantly. There’s usually minor differences to keep it from being considered a stolen design. It benefits those on very tight budgets.

All three of these are made of cheap steel. That's how they can offer them at such a good price. The problem is that the don't hold an edge well. I would not trust my life to one of these. Don't be cheap. Get a real quality bushcraft blade.

Some people just have to be due to their budget. I personally like to use high end stuff if I have a high-end job. It all depends on what you use a Knife for as welll.
