Clearly from the thank you's above, I had a lot of help on this one, :).
This is my personal experience using the Fender Deluxe Tone Master and 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb Amps. It is NOT a paid promotion in any way. It is simply my experience with the amps and ....it was a good one. I look forward to hearing your experiences as well. I read all the comments and enjoy everyone that is a part of five watt world.
Thanks for watching.
Keith

I'm waiting for Keith to come out with a Short History of some random topic that has nothing to do with guitar and for everyone to still watch it because Keith's mini documentaries are calming, interesting, and not too long.

I've been a Marshall guy all my life, I started wanting to try different flavors, so I brought a Vox AC 10, and boutique amp a Cusak king snake, They were great but I still wasn't happy, My amp guy said, Dude get a Fender Deluxe reverb and be done with it... So I got a 68 reissue, with blue tolex, and cremeback M, And I haven't looked back since....

In college, i used some extra financial aid money to buy a 1969 silver face deluxe. Amazing amp. I had if for a few years, but because of a flaky roommate, i had to sell it to make up for his half of our rent one month. Haven't spoken to the guy in almost 20 years and don't miss him, but damn i miss that amp.

I had a 6 watt tube amp before I moved into an apt in Nashville years ago, and quickly discovered my neighbors preferred me unplugged. Now that I have a house the 6 watts is about right; actually still a little too loud. One watt tube is perfect. The deluxe reverb would be really pretty in my little gear corner but it would still be way too loud for what I need. I’m looking forward to checking out that new fender vibroverb that’s coming out; 5 watts fender tube for about $750

You and Zac are two people I trust to be honest and astute whenever you comment on gear. I actually bought a blonde Tone Master before I heard your reviews, and I've been so pleased with the sound. I bought it because I really needed a lighter amp and though I know a lot of people like Princetons, I always preferred the sound of a Deluxe. I'm a Fender guy through and through and I love that Fender keeps living up to its reputation.

I brought the blonde one … I have a 64 Deluxe too … but it’s old and needs a little looking over … it still works but it has a bug or two… so brought this new tone master … it’s pretty close to why I kept my 64 Deluxe all these years … my mom brought it for me back then as a Christmas gift when I was 12 … I’m now 70 and actively play gigs and open mics … and yes it he tone master is light and solved a lot of problems weight wise … and everyone tells me it sound great at our shows ❤

Great video, as always. I love my original TM Deluxe with the firmware update. It's still too big for my tiny house, and when I'm home, I fire up the Deluxe Reverb patch I've made on the PodGo through my monitors or headphones, but when I meet my friends for a jam, the TM does it all: smallish spaces, my buddy's garage, or the Sunday jams in the big open spaces of the auditorium at the high school where I teach. I always smile to myself when I see my buddy lugging his 50lb AC15 around, although that amp sounds great too.

I just sold my last boutique tube amp (a fabulous Victory Duchess V40) and bought a black face Tone Master Twin. I’ve come full circle to the newest version of my first great amp. Thanks Keith for your wonderful insights into the TM DR amps and the Custom DR. I myself after moving around a Twin Reverb RI from gig to gig for the past 20+ years, hardly turning the volume above 4 and hurting my back in the process decided to try out the TM DR (Cream version) and have never looked back. Love it to bits....at home I pair it with the Twin and the sound is awesome, when I need to play out I virtually throw the virtual amp in the car and off I go. Thanks for the videos Keith. Love your content. Cheers Marty from Melbourne🇦🇺

Love these videos. Have the ToneMaster and loved everything except the speaker. Based on your HX Stomp video, I purchased a PowerCab+. I now run the DR-TM from the XLR out with the amps IR turned off, into the PowerCab which lets me load different IR's or use the single speaker IR's on the Cab. Opens up a bunch of different options. The Powercab even came loaded with a 64 Deluxe Reverb IR that sounds great.

I lugged around a 1977 Twin (not considered a very desirable amp) to gigs for years because it was what I had and I couldn't afford a variety of different amps at that time-one of those "too big is a fit" situations . I used a clean boost and a Tube Screamer in front of it and could get decent sounds at not ear crushing volumes. I switched to a Deluxe Reverb 11 years ago and since then I have picked up a Princeton, Vibrolux, Pro Reverb, '59 Bassman, and various other non-fender amps. I don't use the Twin for gigs anymore, not because it doesn't sound good, but because it's just so heavy-given the choice of hauling a Deluxe/Vibrolux/Pro Reverb or a Twin up and down multiple flights of stairs I'm going to go with the lighter amp. Interestingly, during the many years I used the Twin I was often complemented on my tone, many times from other guitar players who erroneously thought I was using a Vibrolux or Pro Reverb. When I said it was a Twin they were surprised. I think you can get a lot out of most gear if you learn how to make it work for you. ; )

Great video Keith I love your videos. I have a Princeton reverb made in 1964, I put it in a head cabinet so it's smaller. I bought it in 1979. I have a 10-inch speaker cab and I have another cabinet with an EV 12 inch speaker. I take the 10-inch speaker to small gigs or stay at home and the electro voice 12in which is much more efficient and puts out a very loud sound when I need more. With both speakers running the thing screams. I love my Princeton reverb I'm never getting rid of it and I don't even need a back up cuz it runs perfectly I have rewired it and I'll keep it for the rest of my life. But, I might consider a Deluxe it is the only other fender amp I would consider but I don't need one I'm happy with my Princeton thanks

Also, I like the company you keep - I watch all of your cohorts on a regular basis and TrueFire has been my source of "learning" for a long time (just wish I had the discipline to match. Another illuminating video. Thank you. It helped me to make up my mind to dive back into the world of owning an amp, and not just using headphones. I grabbed a blonde tonemaster deluxe reverb that came up for sale. What a revelation. Running a helix into it for effects or some preamps it’s simply sublime. And surprisingly capable of higher gain tones. I’m typically only on the lowest attenuation setting, and it’s still flipping loud. Sometimes even with volume knob barely above one. I think in my house it’s a definitely a point two five watt world.

As a longtime player and teacher in LA, I always appreciate your straight to the point vids. Have slogged thru a lifetime of amps, always Fenders, and have a good seasoned view of many. My personal favs were browns, Concerts and, especially, Pros. A cranked Pro (non-reverb) thru a '54 Gold Top is hard to beat. We guitarists are never satisfied, always chasing the Grail. After trying 15-20 RI 65 DRs, I found a great one. But when a mint, one owner '64 fell into my lap, well, contest over. Covers all the bases, nice tight sound, we're at one. Sorry, not one to share but this struck a note.

You have gone back and compared the whole lot which is what I never realised I needed! Thanks so much! Great job... Fit!

Love it! Had a similar journey myself, albeit three back surgeries almost guaranteed the Tonemaster would get my attention, no matter how good it sounded. Thank goodness it sounds sooo good; I went with the Blonde one when it was released, and having traded my '65 DRRI for it, was feeling I had 'better' tone on balance, with the Celestion and virtual bright-cap removal being closer to my 'ideal' Blackface sound. Similar to Keith, I have a Rivera Dolce (22W, 6V6's, reverb, Blackface 'clean', but with a Marshall-esque 'crunch' channel and a Greenback in mine) with an (original) Captor attenuating or silencing it, and feeding a C.A.B. IR loader that can drive headphones as well as my interface... a setup I had been using with my '65 DRRI. Having the 'real thing' tube amp that can stay at home, and the Blonde Tonemaster for any place I need to carry an amp has been interesting, in that I thought I'd always use the Rivera at home... mostly, I *just* use the Tonemaster, except recording specific tracks, because the Tonemaster just works so well. I have always wanted a Princeton, and I like to run Wet-Dry, but I'm really starting to think another (maybe a used, original) Tonemaster is a better bet... and will probably allow me to play 'out' ten years longer by being able to do even the biggest gig with just 2 x 10kg amps :-)

I've had the original TM Deluxe for a year and I'm happy with it. I replaced the speaker with a Speaker Warehouse Reaper and I use a Origin Effects Revival Drive which gives me a good variety of tones. Thanks for the video and telling me about the firmware upgrade from the blond amp. I'll give it a try.

My current rig is based around a Blackstar HT-5R and it rarely comes of the overdrive channel as its clean channel is really lackluster. Because of this, when I needed to track a cover of The Doors' Light My Fire for my studio apprenticeship a few years ago, I borrowed a friend's '68 Custom Reissue Deluxe. I absolutely fell in love with this amp. It doesn't have the Marshally drive of the Blackstar I dearly love, but those cleans are just perfect. They're bright and crystal clear, but remain very warm and lively. The spring reverb is in a league of its own and while in general I prefer the smoother pulse of a bias tremolo, the Deluxe's optical tremolo isn't too choppy and is really nice at lower depth settings. If I could, I'd do a two amp setup, with a Deluxe for my cleans and the HT-5R for the drive, and I'd be a very happy camper.

The DR as always been my go to amp. I purchased a reissue several years back and had it modified to the specs of an original black face. The mod also made the amp more touch sensitive. Hence, I got the tone with reliability 🙂. I have purchased different amps but I end up selling them after a while and returning to my DR.

Great video as always, l play a princeton with a 12in Jensen alnico blue and love it. The thought of a bigger amp has been haunting me, the hardwired deluxe sound perfect.

Sir, “Bada Bing”...you are the man. Thank you for another great video 👍🏼. Perfect comparison of all three amps. Answered all my questions. Like you I have and do own other blackface fenders or other brands but never owned a Deluxe Reverb. Fave was always the Vibrolux Reverb but as gigs and jam sessions becoming quieter and thanks to this video I think a deluxe is in my near future. I do use a Headstrong Lil King S 1x12 with 6L6 output @ approx 28 Watts but it just doesn’t have that Fender “snap” or attack in the front end. Voiced close to a 64 Princeton Reverb it’s on the warmer side of things. It can accept many other output tubes including 6V6 dropping the output. The Custom shop Deluxe Reverb may be the ticket. Thank you again...sorry so wordy, toooo much coffee this morning Lol. And then ! PS-Is the Revv amp still in the stable post Deluxe discovery?

Excellent video Keith! I'm on this Deluxe journey now, and want to try all 3 options too, like you did. Love your integrity, and the quality of your videos is one reason why I watch. It's obvious you put a lot of effort into these. I am drawn more and more by a similar ethos to what you usually discuss here, and find myself trying to do more with less-and what I have is good enough. Yet, I too still need to clean out the accumulated fluff. Maybe a custom Deluxe is in my future once I do. (edited:forgot to say Thanks to RJ! Love listening to his playing.)

Thanks for the great video, Keith! I had an original tonemaster deluxe for a year and it was such a great amp in my apartment. But I was offered a '66 deluxe reverb a few months back for a decent price and couldn't refuse. Wanted to try a vintage version for awhile and now I'm in a house where I can turn things up a bit more. So I sold the tonemaster to fund the purchase. And of course, had to sink a few hundred into the '66 to get it up to snuff. Vintage gear indeed costs $$$$ in upkeep. I'd like to get a TM again and will wait for used bargain. I really think they are the best buy in amps going right now.

Another great video Keith. Now I see why you decided this is your go to amp. So far my 70's Princeton reverb is more than enough for me. Now I'm thinking about just one more amp. :)

Hey, Keith. Watching this video really got me thinking. I think we are from the same era, just different genres. (HS grad 1987). Your study on the Deluxe Reverb really spoke to me. When I was in my early teens (early 80s) my folks divorced. And in his obvious mid-life crisis :) my dad bought a 70s Quad Reverb. Damn, I loved that thing. I used it for playing my guitar, making my own "mix tapes" using the outputs to my Hi-Fi creating 8 track recordings when it was just really adding a take on top of a cassette playing through, to DJ-ing for Jr High and HS parties. Even though I went through a 20+ year hiatus in playing, your video reminded me that Fender amps are really part of MY history. Thanks for that.

Great video as always Keith! I would love to see something on the 2203/2204 Marshalls from the late 70s into the 80s and the reissues. I thing you give some great insight into what makes them so legendary. A bit more than 5 watts... but would be cool just the same.

Definitely agree about spending time to get to know gear. Used the same amp (Egnater Tweaker) from 2011-18, then had my 10w Anniversary Edition Blackstar combos since summer '18. Still finding new tones.

Another right on video-thanks Keith. My Deluxe Reverb is a wine colored 65’ re-issue. Retubed with better tube and I’ve always loved its rich tone. Would love to try a Tone Master too though!

Great video sir. Love your channel. I love my 65 DRRI. It does everything I need it to do although I have customized it a bit. Clipped the bright cap, changed the speaker out to a Weber, and increased the bias slightly. Would I like to have a 65 original? Absolutely, but for now I could not be happier with what I have. It's worked great for me in small to medium sized live settings playing in a 5 piece band. In somewhat larger outdoor settings I have miked it thru the PA and it's been fine. Great amps IMO.

I just bought my first proper amp, a Roland JC-22. Haven’t got the chance to play through it, but I think it may end up filling the same role for me that the Fender here is. I’m pretty excited about it

bought an open-box “used” custom 64 hand-wired princeton a few months ago. it’s killer. i’ve played a few superb vintage bfp’s in the last few years-a friend collects and he’s very picky. this sounds as good as those. without the endless maintenance hassle and expense. i don’t love the tonemasters but the tweaked blonde deluxe sounds noticeably better imo
