Thank you Jamel! In memory of: Cory Wells February 5, 1941 - October 20, 2015 (age 74). They say he wasn't ever into drugs and just was a good all around guy! Thanks Cory!
Is he the vocalist in this song? I can’t remember all those years ago. My late husband used to play this song and a few others by Three Dog Night. He took me to see them live in 1970, two days before I delivered our only child, a daughter. Nice memories. Annie in TN 💕
I knew Cory he didn't drink nor did he do drugs never in his whole life, he was a wonderful friend so very missed and he was a beautiful man! He is still loved and will always be missed!
There was a lot of groups back then both black & white who the music industry didn’t want to show their faces because of how they sounded. What most of us forget is that most of this soul music came from black people who never got the credit they deserved for writing such amazing songs. When you look into the back grounds of these groups they all came from a place that heard songs originally sang in Juke Joints like Jerry Lee Lewis. I’m so glad times changed & now people don’t have to hide I just wish that the people who sang songs originally are given the credit that’s properly deserved & earned.
Suddenly I just now burst into tears, remembering my late husband taking me to see this guy singing his heart out. It was two days before giving birth to our only child, a daughter in 1970. The tears? Well he’s gone now after being soulmates for 50+ years, my daughter just tested positive for Covid19 and I can’t go to her, being very disabled. But it will all be ok, with time. Goddam!! What an incredible performance! Annie in TN 💕
Jamel, I am so happy that you appreciate the amazing talent of the great Cory Wells! There was no one that could hold a candle to him. He had soul, plain and simple, and a really great guy! Thanks, Jamel!
Cory Wells had two strong things going for him here. First, his incredible voice. You really need to be a good vocalist to pull off a song like this, otherwise it's just a pose. Secondly, he had that marvelous, on point technically fierce band behind him.
Cory Wells, one of the great voices of 70's rock music. Many of the hits that Three Dog Night had, were hand picked by Cory Wells, he just had an ear of music, he is missed today for sure.
Jamel, this was a great version! Cory Wells had an incredible soulful voice, the boy ate his cornbread. I first saw this band live in '73 with my bestie, then last year, we saw them again, unfortunately without Cory, but still fantastic, what a show. We were 14 the first time, now 62 and still groovin' better than most.
My great uncle Buford Jones is a world famous sounds engineer who has mixed for a lot of the greats in classic rock but three dog night was the first band he started mixing for in 1970
I loved all three voices but Cory's was my favorite. That husky bluesiness, oh my. Rest in peace, Cory baby💙 Now please listen to the silkiness of Chuck's voice on "Easy To Be Hard", "One" & "Cowboy". Beautiful!💙 And you'd love Danny singing "Black & White".💙 Oh, and "Liar" & "Celebrate"!!!💙 And "Brickyard Blues"! Cory again.💙
He felt that right down to his feet!! I love the reaction of the rest of the band....they knew it was a special performance.... and they knew how lucky they were to be in that moment!
You've heard of guys standing on a street corner with a trash can fire harmonizing late into the wee hours. Thats how Corey Wells trained his beautiful voice.
The definitive live version of this song is from the 1975 Soundstage program. Corey is so good - the other dogs gave him the stage. You can watch the whole program, or search individual songs.
No one will Ever sing this song like Corey Wells! Please watch all versions of him singing this. Corey Wells is forever the finest. For that matter, no one will ever sing or put on a performance like my Corey. I miss him so badly😰
I stood practically below Otis’ feet up front at the Monterey Pop Festival. Got to see him kill this one!!!. You might as well show that famous performance- he was backed up by Booker T and the MG’s! He also killed on “ Satisfaction”! It’s on YT!!
Otis is my favourite singer and I love to hear him sing that song. I never expected to enjoy anyone else's cover, but that was surprisingly awesome! Way to go Three Dog Night!!!
What a voice Cory Wells had. He could sing anything. And put a lot of soul in it. From Buffalo, NY, of all places -- who'd have thought? Thanks for posting this!
I can't believe it took all 37-years of my life to discover this outstandingly badass masterpiece of a song! Hell yeah! Oh hell.. HELL YEAH, BABY! Thank you so much, Jamel, for posting this highly entertaining video!
Wow, could Cory sing! Thanks for playing this one, I discovered this remake a couple of years ago by Three Dog Night and truly appreciated it, wow, did Cory have soul, listen to that voice & his moves! He was a kid when he sang this song, unfortunately, he died in 2015.
This was the right version of Try A Little Tenderness for me! Oh, to be back in the early 70s again listening to this group...talk about some good ol memories!
Gotta love that Hammond organ sound!! Makes me remember the awesome soundtrack from the movie THE COMMITMENTS - Now that's DEFINITELY worth checking out!!!
We're all entitled to our opinions, but Jon Lord was classically trained and played things on the Hammond that Gregg never even dreamed of. Pardon the pun.
I was fortunate to have caught Three Dog Night live 3 times in the space of a couple of months when they reformed for a brief period in the early 1980s and went out to play small venues. It was in northeast Ohio at both the Akron Agora and the Cleveland Agora. They really sounded fantastic and played all their hits - this despite singer Chuck Negron's continuing descent into an extremely harrowing years-long battle with heroin addiction that probably none of us knew about at the time. Then at around 3/4 of the way through their set, Cory Wells did this song, and it was the hands-down show-stopper EVERY TIME. He had us all up on our feet as he did his maniacal "HOLD HER, SQUEEZE HER, NEVER LEAVE HER, YOU GOT TA, YOU GOT TA, YOU GOT TA TRY, TRY, TRY, ...." jumping up and down like a soulful madman while Mike Alsup delivered his superbly tasteful lead electric guitar lines. They must have played this for at least 8 minutes every time. We went WILD!
I remember I was 18 when they were all over the radio and I had the biggest crush on Cory. I think I went to two of there concerts here in Kansas City, MO. They were great. I was sorry to hear that he passed away.
Had never heard this song before. But after you did a reaction to it? AMAZING! Cory is awesome. I've listened to it over and over. What a performance. Cory past away not to many years ago. R I P
I love every version of this song, but Three Dog Night's is my favorite. But the best performance they did of it was LIVE AT THE FORUM...much more funk! I think only the audio is available on RU-vid.
Finally got to see them after after 25 yrs at a south carolina fair. It was up close and so personal and Corey still had it and that was 2008. I love them so much. ♥️⭕️❌

LOVE all the Three Dog Night you’re doing, and this cover is one of my favorites. You really have to watch them live, 1975, on Sound Stage singing “One.” Chuck Negron’s vocals and falsetto are awesome!
1975 Cory was so cute when he said, “Gotta dance here.” 😂 But if had to pick- it’d be 3dognight: 1972 this one below and the “Jam” being the best: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6TmucgHkgbU.html Here’s the ultimate: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0aAlOysB8z4.html
There are recordings of this song as far back as the REAL vocal original by Bing Crosby in 1933, and by everyone from Ruth Etting, Frank Sinatra, and Little Miss Cornshucks, to The Platters, Frankie Avalon, Aretha Franklin, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Otis Redding, Ella Fitzgerald, and on and on, As recent as a performance by Chang Po Ching on 'The Voice' in 2018.
Check out this cover. If you've never heard of this group, do some research and you'll be amazed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fX8g_JEJol8.html
I love three dog night. One day i had the vinyl on our only stereo which mom hated me using. But she walked in and stopped, listened and told me this was a song from her youth.
I just went to go listen to that to see if I knew it and in the lyrics he said "Brain Salad Surgery" O_O I was literally going to suggest ELP for a reaction video
Never knew they did this- I adore me some Otis Redding, but I gotta give it up 4 this version!!* Thankyou, Jamel!!* You really keep me going during these crazy times...
You got the right version. I got to see Three Dog Night in 1968 when I was 18. They opened for Cream at the Anaheim Convention Center across from Disneyland. I took a beautiful red head that I’d just met at Knott’s Berry Farm a week earlier. What a CONCERT!!! Both bands were ON FIRE that night.
I cant say I really like song remakes for the most part, but I have to admit this was pretty awesome. I still live Otis, but I'm impressed. I never heard this version before and my Aunt absolutely loved Three Dog Night.
@Susan L I just made a comment that I loved all 3 voices but Cory was my favorite..that husky bluesiness. And I always felt like his personality shone through. Don't know how right I am but I always felt that. I've loved their music since I was a teen in 1969. Saw them in concert twice. To me, your dear brother was always a stand-out. He sparkled. He still does.💙 Much love to you from a lifelong fan in Kentucky.💙
@@deborahcornell171 , Thank you. He was great entertainer and brother. He was my closest sibling and I miss him everyday. At least I am able to see and hear him via these videos.
Always loved 3dognight, particularly this song....paying homage to the late great Otis Redding! No one did better than Otis, especially live, but, this guy here came close! And uou know he must've seen Otis perform this someplace bc he did his moves PERFECTLY, I mean, wow! You should pay homage to Otis by reacting to his ORIGINAL version or maybe do "I'VE BEEN LOVING YOU TOO LONG"! Love your reactions...I find myself laughing out of no where, not at you, but with you. Keep on keeping on, brother!♡
Thanks for rediscovering this band for me, my Olds used to crank these guys when I was in nappys, I forgot about them but now I'm reunited, thanks man.
If you liked this, you need to check out Wilson Pickett’s version of The Beatles Hey Jude. Features Duane Allman on guitar. Same soulful feel. Totally different than the original.
Awesome!!! Thank you for doing some of these oldies Goldie’s, they were spectacular in the lyrics and new mixing of instruments and genres. Please keep it up, So happy that are listening to many of the great!! Subscribed and sharing👍🏻
Great reaction to a great singer.....It is very difficult at best to follow Otis Redding and replicate any level of soul......Cory is one of the few that grasped what Otis truly did.......Thanks for not interrupting the video 10 times like most!! Dr G
I SO appreciate your channel!! You bring back all the great music I grew up with so long ago!!! My music is an important part of my life. I don't have television, but have had my vinyls and discs and my music plays loudly, most all day! If my dad was still on this earth, he'd still be telling me to "Turn it down". Ha ... keep on doing what you do!!!!
The movie The Commitments has a killer version of this song, with the lead by a 16-year-old Andrew Strong who you would swear had decades of experience.
I've honestly never heard their cover of this song! Really enjoyed it! Now, if you'd like to see another band perform this song, take a look at this version. The band is called The Commitments, and the clip is from the movie of the same name. The movie was about a guy in Dublin, Ireland who creates a band to bring soul music to the people of Dublin. They all performed the music themselves and the lead singer, Decco Cuffe (played by Andrew Strong), has got a hell of a voice: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PKfHC5eY5CI.html
