I have completely changed my entire diet to healthy foods (and changed my portion sizes) and on my own I lost 30 lbs, and then I started Ozempic and I've lost another 29 lbs in my first two months. I can't wait to see what the next two months on ozempic look like!
I have lost 61 pounds on my own. Recently, I hit a wall, and weight is not moving much. I applaud anyone who fights their way back to healthy, be it sheer willpower or chemical assistance. In the end, we all want to feel good and think good about ourselves....but I'm gonna keep trying on my own. Just wish it would go a little faster.
Hi there thanks for the tips. My question is if you eat sugary food but but still have less calories in versus healthy food but but have the same calories in and out are the same? I guess what I really want to know is which is worse being overweight or eating healthy foods? I’m completely with you on maintenance. I had a gastric balloon and I felt awful and yes it worked while in place but crept back on and now back to where I started. But in the long term I only lost pounds (cash)
Thank you for making this❤ I am new here! I started at 233 lbs. I am down to 176 current. Height is 5’7. I eat super clean. Low carbs. Almost zero refined sugar. Let all sodas go for my coffee and oat milk. No sweeteners. No drive thru foods. I intermittent fast. Lots of fruits. Lots of veggies. Working out 5 days a week. I start semaglutide Monday ! I’m aiming to lose 20 more and I’ll be where I want to be! That’s my goal weight. I’m also hitting between 10,000 and 12,000 steps a day. Burning at least 600 calories on my watch. I don’t eat pork. I’m also using orgain organic whey protein. And a superfoods greens powder In my smoothies. If you have any good stuff I might be missing please let me know.
Hi congrats on your weight loss! How long did it take you to go from 233lbs to 176lbs? Also are you diabetic or using these injections for weight loss? Let me know
@@DebbieQueen-hf8yu hello! I have been on my weight loss journey a little over a year now. Since I made this post I have stopped taking the injection about two weeks ago! I have gotten a kidney infection from the shot and currently on antibiotics from it. It made me feel terrible the last week I was on it and got really sick and had to make a trip to the ER. I am not a diabetic. I don’t encourage people to take this shot as I have learned from taking it and getting it into my body it really messed my internal gut health up. Your body is not suppose to slow down the process of breaking down foods and that left me feeling quite miserable all the time!! Since stopping the shot I have regained my energy. I have also lost weight since stopping the shot. I am currently 167lbs. I eat very clean and manage my portions well. I also intermittently fast. All in all it’s all about balance and doing what is best for your body and you will win every time. I’ve also started a keto diet and it seems to be very affective and NATURAL.
@@ToniMichellee thank you for responding back. I’m actually diabetic and was on Ozempic for a year but my weight loss was VERY MINIMAL. I’ve lost about 20 lbs which I’m thankful for but I thought it would be More weight loss than this but I’m seeing than I need to make more effort in what I actually eat. After starting Ozempic my appetite diminished greatly however, after about 9 months my appetite increased so now I’ve been put on Moujaro mainly because of trying to get my A1C down. Again thank you for your encouraging story, I hope that I will make better strides in accomplishing a lower A1C and loosing some more weight.
My son is a truck driver long distance for UPS..Tues 3am through Friday/Saturday at 12am/3am..depends on loads...every Monday he goes to this restaurant that has meals 5/$40...he orders 10 meals n freezes , has a small fridge/freezer on his rig...hes lost over 30 lbs in last 6 months doing this n carries a case of water for the week...great to plan
Great videos - I have a mentally challenged daughter who has just started Ozempic and these videos are perfect for her - down to earth and easy explanation which is what she needs to help her understand.
This was soooooo helpful!! I mean from A-Z!! Covered it all! I’m encouraged and resetting my mind and revamping my lifestyle! I did this when I started Ozempic in September and lost 49lbs in 3 months but fell off and stopped Ozempic due to insurance issues. I’m back on it now and it doesn’t seem to be working. My Dr just upped my dose to the 1.0( was currently just taking .50) but I see this is probably the main reason it wasn’t working. Thank you so much for this impactful information
I agree with most of your recommendations, apart from your suggestion to avoid full fat dairy . Full fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt are great sources of protein and calcium. Fats from grass fed , organic , free range beef , lamb and protein are healthy and help lessen blood glucose spikes .
Of course full fat dairy is an option if you are ok with the cholesterol levels being higher and aren't looking to reduce cholesterol intake but does reduced fat dairy have less protein? I mentioned grass fed sources of protein are preferred as well!
@@GoodDrG The low fat versions don’t have less protein, but they are higher in carbohydrates . Sugars play a very prominent role in heart disease , more so than dietary cholesterol and can lead to insulin resistance which is bad for cardiac health and everything else . Also the fat in full fat dairy , helps to reduce the glucose spike in a meal that is high in carbohydrates if one chooses to consume them .
I just stumbled on this page today, trying to jump start better eating due to high aldosterone level, but the Dr. Told me immediately start immediately healthy life style changes, ive always been large in height 5'10 from 4th grade until now at 55, i dont eat sweets,i dont eat red meat( not ever) no rice ( but live for pasta)on occasion I 'll have 1 drink with friends(holidays, drinking justs not my thing) i dont exercise an occasional walk in woods(live nature) i figure i work in nursing home and i manually lifting all the time thats my exercise. Thank you so much for the advice! I've been on a tirzepatide compound for about 2 months now and down 19 pounds, the only thing my nurse practitioner told me was to consume more protein.
I was on tirzepatide but got it from Mia Aesthetics. I purchased the 3 month supply for $1500. I started it on June 29th. My last shot was supposed to be on September 7th but I had enough left for one more shot. So I completed the 3 month supply on September 14th. My weight when I started was 238 and I weighed myself today and my current weight is 209. I did change the way I eat. I ate once a day between the hours of 3pm-6pm. And I ate only Gardein plant based food and my veggies were broccoli, Brussels, zucchini and squash. And for my protein I would have a protein shake. I didn’t do exercise at all. I just started an exercise routine last week and I’m going to get another 3 month supply because it really does work and just continue to exercise. I was wearing a size 3x or size 18/20. I’m now in an L/Xl or size 16. My thighs got slimmer and I lost inches off my waist and my back isn’t BIG
To quote the nutrition part from Greg Glassman - Fitness in 100 words: „Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. „ I think that sums it up perfectly.
@@altanett Plant based protein?!?! But usually has a higher carb content for the same amount of protein and you need to mix them up (usually) to get a full EAA (essential amino acid) profile with your plant based protein sources (plural).
I really appreciate you. Will try to work the coaching call into my schedule. I am shocked that so many of us are left on our own to figure this out. I wouldn't be fat if I could have figured this out. Been dieting my entire life
Thank you I take Ozempic but must remember that sleeping 7 hours, muscle training and aerobic activity help. Allulose is a natural sweetener and works like a GlP1 category. I am a new subscriber.
I have been on mounjarno for 3 months and I also take a mental health medication. Before taking mounjarno I gained 30 lbs in a year from the mental med. I am not seeing any real weight loss but I am not gaining any more weight either. I’ve lost about 10 lbs in the 3 months. Any suggestions? I just found your page and going to take some suggestions about foods and exercise you’ve posted.
Welcome! I would start with the same things I usually recommend. Take an inventory of your current nutrition for two weeks minimum in an app like my fitness app or lose it. From there you can see where your issue is. Is it calorie intake, calorie expenditure or both. Then fine tune the macros. Finally work on barriers to meaningful lifestyle changes you can maintain for the long term.
Ahhh, I know that issue, too. I gained 80 lbs. in 4 months when I was put on Risperdal for my Bipolar Disorder 1. That was 20 years ago and just got fatter and fatter. I refuse Risperdal now when the hallucinations visit, but thank goodness there are other newer meds to take. I am on Mounjaro and I do want to say that some people take longer to get going, it might take a couple three dose increases before you see much change. 10 lbs is nothing to sneeze at, though! That is fantastic! Remember, that psych meds often cause severe carb/sugar cravings and it can be a challenge to ignore that part of our brains begging for it. This is often helped by higher dosages of GLP-1s, too. Always, always talk to both your psych and prescribing doctor about what is going on with your body. You are on the right track, I promise!
Hello I saw your comment I started taking monjaro and I have been fasting with it the first week I lost 25lbs I told myself I would only eat if I felt hungry the first week I didn't feel hungry so I fasted 6 days on water and the six day I drank liquid IV which is electrolyte water. The seventh day I drank soup took my shot started on 2 nd week I ate broth and salad and lost 10 lbs the next week I fasted 5 days still only salad lost 6 lbs the last week of the month I just drank water and had salad with chicken breast chopped lost 5 lbs! I did this because I wanted to loose 50lbs before my v s g surgery. I wasn't asked to loose weight before the surgery I just felt people at lower weights have better results faster! But since I had the surgery they said focus on protein so in 2 weeks I only lost 5lbs. But the good thing is I could barely walk and I was able to walk in the grocery store I couldn't believe I walked through the whole supermarket! So gym is in my future 😊❤
Good afternoon doc i was scrolling through RU-vid one day and i just started to listen to you ,you are GENUINE I just wish my daughter struggling with diabetes could be your patient she is 24 with a lot of issues
I appreciate you taking the time to comment and also for watching the content. I know there are other docs out there who approach medicine in a practical and patient friendly manner like I do so I hope finds one of those docs wherever you are! ✊🏾
I love these things you say. You really are an awesome doctor. I cannot cook my own foods for a variety of reasons that cannot be changed. I eat Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice and a couple of other high protein ready-made meals. I never finish the dinner. _Never_ because I am so full and satiated. I look forward to other high protein choices like the new Nestle dinners due out by the end of the year. I bought a loaf of bread and had one slice for tuna salad half-sandwich, and ended up forgetting I had it and when I saw it, it was green with mold. Out it went. Changed my diet 180 degrees after heart and lung issues in 2022. Trulicity for a year starting in July 2022, now Mounjaro since Sept. 2023. HgbA1c down to 5.1 from 9.0 two years ago. All labs are amazing now. Horrid before. I was 405 lbs (BMI 76.5) two years ago and today am 166 (BMI 31.2). I am alive in a way I never was before... a life of enormous clinical obesity was wasted because I failed at everything I tried (including Fen-Phen and an RNY Gastric Bypass). Finally, it was _REALLY_ not my fault. Something I knew inside, but no studies validated. Now I have medication for my life... not just diabetes and weight loss... but my LIFE. I Am Alive! Thank you again for speaking about all things GLP-1. You are fantastic.
I hope for anyone taking ozempic, that it doesn’t have any negative long term side effects. I believe heavily in the old saying of “anything that sounds too good to be true, usually is.”
Hey there! I’m with you. I hope there aren’t any terrible side effects either. We know quite a lot about the meds at this point. The general public may have just started to recognize the name when they hear it but they have been around for close to 20 years now. There are things that sound good and really are good! Time will tell I guess! Have an amazing weekend!
Hi Doc! Love your channel, really helpful for lifestyle changes. Question! How far under a calorie deficit is ok? I think I heard the general -500 daily but is it ok to go lower?
Hey there! Depends on what your current intake is and what your final goal. Also important to take into account how deep seated your barriers to change are. To answer your question A deficit of as little as 150 cal/day is enough to start and I’ve had patients have to go to as high as 1000 cal/day. Great idea! I encourage fruit to satisfy cravings for sweets but make sure you do not over do it and its counted in your nutrition plan. Its not a free for all but do enjoy!
Are zero sugar creamers ok with coffee? I am on week two of Moujarno (2.5) and have lost 6lbs. Pretty sure water weight but I will take it :). Is it normal to alway feel hungry(in my mind) but my stomach feel somewhat full. I make sure to drink at least 80oz of water per day if not more. I include Propel with zero sugar (1-2) per day. I make sure that if I eat yogurt it is zero sugar. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

The problem is no one is going to sit down and count calories. Also i have seen studies thar show calorie counting not only is ineffective but everyone has different calorie needs
Hey there! This is a completely self defeating mindset. You can’t mean “no one” will count calories because just about all my patients do (at least the first 2-4 weeks and whenever they plateau). Could it possibly mean you can’t or don’t want to? Also,, please share the source of the studies stating calorie counting is “ineffective” for weigh loss. Thank!!!
@@GoodDrG www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5639963/ There are many more especially when it comes to difference of processing calories due to genetics or even the reported calories and general nutritional values on products being at best not correct. There are also several studies debunking held beliefs on metabolism as well. I'm not talking about the body shape nonsense either. The whole calorie intake method has been largely discredited for years. It doesnt account for many biochemical processes or genetics. I'm not saying it cant help but even the principal its based on is already an inaccurate fallacy. Not everyone needs what is it 1000 to 2400 calories a day. Some need alot more or alot less. I'm not by any means trying to say that you're not a professional but there is far more than oh count calories. Its the reason why we still dont know much about how metabolism works and what affects it.

@@GoodDrG awesome, because I do opt for chomp, which does have high in protein (10-12g) and low in calories, (100) do you recommend any other beef jerky, turkey jerky?
Can you do a video about the acid reflux that happens while on medication. I have been suffering bad every day. Dr. Told me it will go away as I loose more weight.😢😢😢
@@GoodDrG I don't like to cook meals so drinking a replacement meal like slimfast is not good at all? I have a shake for breakfast and lunch. I eat dinner, thanks.
@@JP-vv2jm I won't say its "no good". I'm saying it is preferable to consume your macros(protein) from food. The science suggests its a better more usable form. Some nutritionists are completely against protein in the form of shakes as a way to complete your required daily intake.

Hello I was 21'11 now I'm 20'4 but seems to have stuck at losing weight... Eating too little will put your body in starvation mode so you will hoard the fat. Look for higher calorie foods if you can't eat or eat small bits all day.
700 cals is way too low. Your body thinks you are starving and you have hit a plateau. You want to trick your body so it no longer thinks you are starving. Try alternating your calories. It's fine if you have 700 calories on a no excersize day but introduce weight training and/or body resistance excersize. On weight training days (3-4x per week), make sure you get at least 100 g of protein and at least 1300 cals. The body uses 30% more energy to process protein ( ie. Higher calorie burn, thermogenic) The huge weight loss you experienced initially due to starving yourself resulted in your body lossing muscle weight. This is always bad because muscle keeps your metabolism up, you lost muscle and now your metabolism has taken a dive. Update us once you are able to modify. If you are unable to eat, your dose is too high for you, it should suppress appetite, not eliminate it.

Wanted to learn more about semaglutide because my doctor discussed this in my recent visit. She offered this as an option and allowed me the opportunity to think about it. I fell off from working out and eating properly. In researching, I found your and Dr. O's videos, which have been SO easy to understand. Thank you for these. What hilarious is you mentioned to NOT get your medication from the person in the dollar store, then an advertisement offered semaglutide for purchase. I mention this to say, I will never understand how anyone can be brave enough to purchase items WITHOUT a professional prescription. Thank YOU for your videos. Your videos are great.
Hahaha honestly most people go that route out of desperation and or lack of access. Others are looking for an easy route. No matter the reason it’s not a good idea.
That’s an inaccurate myth. Milk contains 12 grams of sugar ( in the form of carbohydrate) per cup. This is the case whether we're talking about whole milk, 2% milk, 1% milk or skim milk. Also, whole milks carries a lot more calories in the form of fat than skim.
@@glaubhafieber maybe that was a problem at the start but I’m going to guess it’s not as big an issue anymore. Insurance companies have Caught on and I can’t tell you the number of prior authorizations my office does a week for patients who have clear indications. Insurances are checking.
Outdated knowledge of animal fat. What we need to avoid are oils and transfats. If you have a rib-eye steak do not trim off the fat. Your body does need it.
