Cones. I spend a ton of time riding riding around cones when teaching and it never previously occurred to me make a video about the cone drills that help transform your slow speed riding, especially for adventure style riding.

Hi Great video and I'll be going out to buy some cones so I can start practising. One comment though, surely when braking to a stop you need to gradually reduce brake pressure to bring yourself to a perfect stop.
@BrakeMagazine

Awesome! I don't think that is the case personally but try it and let me know.

No need to spend money on cones. I use tennis balls. Cut them in half, they are bright and easily visible, if you run over them no big deal.
@andrewlivingston92

Buy some tennis balls and cut them in half. Makes a lot of cheap highly visible and easy to ride over cones and they all go back into that nice little can for easy storage.
@BrakeMagazine
@BrakeMagazine Год назад
@@andrewlivingston92 how expensive do you think cones are vs tennis balls? 😅
@andrewlivingston92
@andrewlivingston92 Год назад
@@BrakeMagazine for me they’re quite a bit more. We don’t have big box stores and no local store sells cones, but our local store has tennis balls. Added benefit of they won’t slide if you brake or lean through them, but I wonder if you’ve had that problem much on those soccer (football) cones on tarmac?

Great tips! And your commentary and explanation makes it so easy to understand. I'll definitely be practicing these drills. Thank you! I can't help but wonder about the background in a few of the shots... is that your biggest fan?

Oh, gravel did not.cross my mind, in fact I only went once and I almost tipped my VERSYS over. Now I ride the HAYABUSA, I don't even want to hear about!

Cool three lessons! I'd like to add: Remember to have fun and PLAY with the bike and the exercises! Letting yourself have fun frees you up to experiment: change up the exercises, invent whole new ones, and try them with different techniques. Not only that, you'll relax on the bike, and you'll want to go back and train more and more. Don't just make it a "necessary chore you have to do before you'll get to the real riding" - make it an enjoyable event. Invite friends, even! And remember to stay safe

I agree. My route to work has some wonderful cement circle patches in the asphalt that make for things to dodge through different ways and speeds.

Great video thanks, interested in your views on Tiger 1200, I have the Tiger 900 and looking to change to 1200 or GS1250 (not Adventure). I do get quite a lot of vibration on the 900 through fingertips, are do you find 1200? Regards. Paul.

Got a little summary coming up but the TLDR is that the bike you have is really good 🤣

Ideally, do this without brakes, but we can clearly see your braking light on!

I said it depends on the bike and environment because the Tiger is really hard to U-Turn 🤣

Cone drills? If I'm on the trail I've found my pocket knife fine for making holes to zip tie my cracked plastics in place and when at home any power drill will do the job. 🙄🤣

Totally disagree with the suggestion people should learn u turns (circle in a square) only using the clutch and no brakes. In fact, your rear brake is a very effective 'rudder', it is the smooth combination of clutch and rear brake fine control that you need for low speed tight turns (I'm speaking from 37 years of motorbike and 12 yrs of mtb experience). Strange that you don't mention using the rear brake for steering in your video.
@BrakeMagazine
@BrakeMagazine Год назад
I didn't say only EVER use the clutch and throttle. I'm clearly using the brakes in this video and said it depends on the bikes, the situation and more. The rear brake is a great tool for helping control your bike, but a lot of people learn to do this ONLY using the rear brake. The point of the exercise it vastly improve clutch control and provide options solving a problem in multiple ways, such as being unable to effectively reach the back brake.
@adonisqeeryazees-mo5rb
@adonisqeeryazees-mo5rb 8 месяцев назад
Sure, the rear brake is necessary to "modulate" the thrusting power of the engine in order to accelerate leaning and prevent falling once in full-lock. The gymkhana competitors will further hit the front brake before cornering as to reduce the wheelbase and achieve an even smaller rotation radius, but this is already too advanced for me ...

Whoa, excellent content. Slow riding and smooth brake precision are crucial tools for the modern rider. I don't see the link to why one foot down is preferable, though... just a link to U turns, which doesn't mention it unless I missed it?

I'm a bit confused, I thought exercises like these were required to get the license in the first place in the EU (and used in the UK as well). It's stuff like this that is taking the most time for me in getting the license as it's a lot to learn in a short time.
@BrakeMagazine
@BrakeMagazine Год назад
Kinda, but not really. You're required to do a u-turn. Honestly though, most people only know them well enough to pass the test and in my experience, never practice them again. We spend the most time teaching these to help people become better riders than anything else. :)

Clutch is inefficient. Foot down on a sport bike is certain fall. Only sure technique is motogymkhana. Check Japanese police.

Only sure technique. Maybe it’s one technique, but it’s not the only one.

Once you practice it you never go back. Reason the total body participation that takes no place if clutch and counter-steering only. I totally agree that it's an effective way to ride, but the whole point of this video is being able to do it any situation and this doesn't allow that. You can't u-turn in a gravel carpark like that or on a road that is smaller than the radius of the turn of the bike.@@adonisqeeryazees-mo5rb
