That Mary-K sounded absolutely insane, it honestly had a weird kind of bit crusher-y vibe but I can definitely see it being used for some killer Jack White-type tones

Quick Tone Reference: Mary K is the sound of Elevation by U2. Edge used the expression pedal fuzz and played between two notes. The technique and sound was also featured in the film It Might Get Loud. Plugin is the sound of Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum. Edit: Now that the JHS promo dropped. I should also add that the Berkeley captures an era of sound from Eric Johnson.

I'm not familiar with Elevate so I might have to listen to it again but with Plugin I can definitely hear Spirit in the Sky, such a great song

It's the sound of Daniel Lanois best works as well which is probably where the Edge learned about it from.

I feel like the tone knob on this new pedal works better or something so it has much more effect to the tone compared to Edge's, at least to my ears anyway

@@TheZooropaBaby the edge's doesn't sound like it is working 100% if I remember it correctly. Either that or like all fuzzes of that period it is wildly variable build wise and tonally. Add in 40 years of component drift and yeah, it probably needs a recap. The other part of it is this. The more upgrade the components in the kay the more range you get but the trade off is the overall tone suffers and becomes way to hifi sounding. It loses the velcro and sputter. The jhs seems like a nice mid point build and tone wise.

But not working 100% can also be why people love them. Personally I have a super drifted triangle muff and tall font that I love because of how unique they are. Fixing them (or cloning them 100% and only upgrading the drifted parts) made both just sound boring. So it is quite possible that the Edge just likes the range of motion on his. This is also before we get to talking about how shitty the plastic pedal of the original feels, how brittle they all feel at this point, and how little range the tredle has on it so you get way less off the in-between sounds you get with a modern expression pedal. Like they are there in the original but are nearly impossible to pinpoint because of the limits of mobility. Lots of factors. I'm a huge fan of the kay fuzz but I also get that it is at best a wonky pedal that sounds really cool used in the right context.

The Kay Fuzz in combination with the expression pedal, the right notes played, gives you Elevation from U2. 👌 I've got the original Kay Fuzz from the 60's just for that song. Love that sound! 🤘

I'm generally speaking not a big fuzz guy but- I really like the Plug-in and the Berkley. Fuzz is such a finnicky effect- you have to tweak it, the guitar, and the amp every time you turn it on it seems. But- when you do finally get it dialed in- it's really fun.

Knobless and then Seemoon... Lee and Pete didn't even have a chance to not take that somewhere it wasn't supposed to go. At that point, when Cap'n said "Alright, lets fiddle with the knobs!" I lost it myself. Pedals sound awesome, BTW. Would love to mess around with the Plugin.

I've been working kn new clean sounds and cranking my amp volume but keeping gain about 4 sounds fantastic when i back my guitar volume down. It's almost like a massive compression pedal as it cuts the notes off rather quickly keeping them muddy but smooth. But when I want to crank up to a heavy rhythm or lead by turning my guitar volume up it totally crashed the overall sound. I think that voltage pedal would be perfect for me on a high gain pedal... edit I'm an idiot. I should just invest In a volume pedal. Also.. those pedals sound like they'd be best for layed recordings only and never for a live play.

The JHS Bonsai has 9 tubescreamer circuits in quite a small pedal. JHS could have made a similar pedal for the 10 fuzz variants they have. If green issues are so important because they are being forced down our throats at every turn then manufacturers should be forced to minimise footprint. Why buy 10 pedals when you can buy 1 with them all in there? It can't be a money and profit thing can it?

That's not how it works, mate. These are recreated circuits from the ground up. The Bonsai, which I own, isn't that. It's mods and sometimes just simple voicings that you can toggle between. It's like comparing taking a bus to car because it's cheaper. Completely braindead take, mate. These fuzzes have nothing to do with eachother. You really don't need multiple of them. Pick the one you like. This all comes down to you being broke as fuck.

Terrible design for those pedals. Who wants the controls on the top? You never know what level you're truly at unless it's maxed out. BIG miss by these manufacturers. I'll pass.
