Been a mountain biker since 91, and I always looked up to Rob and Jason McRoy after the Bike95 event, and the Dirt video. Punks of the era and still to this day my faves, along with Palmer and Peaty.. oh, and No Wage Page. Much love from a 50 year old ex bmx racer.
Rob Warner is Downhill Mountain Biking. I’ve not watched a single WC race since he and Redbull departed, and this is coming from someone who use to frequent DH WC races. It died the day Rob Warner left.
Rob fell into the hole that a lot of athletes do. Had enough of it and hated it. Then rediscover it at a new level with no pressure of competition and find the joy again. Good luck Rob, you are still the voice of mountain bike.
doesn't matter what you do Rob, you are a legend of the sport, your achievements, your oneliners, your work on the World Cups and so much more, I would give a hand to seat down with you and have a beer and chat for couple of hours, with no mics nearby XD
Been on mtbs for over 40 years here in the state that gave birth to it. Rob was the voice of the WC for us that followed it in North America. Props to Red Bull for doing the hard work to help Rob.
I've been riding mountain bikes for 30 years now. I can remember setting my alarm clock at 5 am on the weekends here in canada to watch the dh races on freecaster. I've been hooked on the live feeds ever since and a big part of that was robs commentary. Your quick wit and one liners had me laughing the whole time. We all miss robs voice at every race, just not quite the same without him. 👏🤘
U will always b a massive part of MTB history. U are a complete Legend. I was lucky enough to meet u a few times back in the day of the Malvern Classics. U Peaty and the gang u guys were like the brat pack of MTB lol. Good Times. Peace happiness an Love dude. Russell😎
Thanks Rob; genuinely, thanks😊 Your rediscovery of riding as a joy and a place of personal achievement by means of an e-bike chimes with me. Having thought I’d had my last ride, fat and arthritic, when I retired (my first ride in the woods was about 1961), my wife bought me an eeb and now I’m riding better than ever with my kids (in their 30’s) and keeping up 🎉 I’ll be there when Revs opens next month: if anybody had suggested that 10 years ago, I’d have had a coronary just laughing out loud 🤣
been inspired by Rob since back in the 90s and really miss him on the world cup commentary. I truly believe that Rob was one of, if not, the most significant influence on E-MTBing. For years i and most others had looked down on E-Bikes as cheating and not real MTBs and then Rob came along on a YT video and he just made it make sense. I love my Ebike and my normal MTB and i will be eternally grateful to Rob for helping me see the light. Cheers Rob
Rob you have always been the best man for commentary. You voice is the essence and your a great man, be proud of yourself. E-bike have revived mountain biking. Especially us old uns
the TV went in 99 and Sprung started World Cup coverage the same year, then followed by Earthed we did the best to cover racing and fill that void., obvs nothing like TV but coverage but we kept the vibe going. Rob might not know but I recommended him to Ray at Freecatser for the commentary job. Rob was always destined to be the voice of MTB and no one can take that away now.
For all the same reasons that I got an ebike.. I fell in love with mtb again and the adventures I've been on my eeb I'd never ever would have dreamt off before ❤
Hey Rob! Never forget the day we met at the GianT Trailer in Mount Saint Anne 2001.. Your high energy personality gave me the inspiration needed to enjoy racing! That power today your still Strive WorldWide !! Sigue así mi pana ! Eres un Pionero un Gamechanger! Gracias !
Yip been at it for knocking on 34 years must say my recent purchase of a emtb has turned the clock back 30 years for me, best bit of coin I've spent for years, keep at it rob
Rob I totally agree emtb has also reinvigorated my Mountain biking after 35yrs 5 years ago my first emtb I'm now riding 6 to 8 hrs a week, Cheers Dave 🇦🇺
Can't lie - I've never been a fan of Rob's commentating style. Always thought "noisy bastard!". 😊 But also can't lie - I found this video so moving & so inspiring. Rob, you'll always be a noisy bastard (don't ever change). But seems like you're a good bastard too. Thanks for making this video. It's given me some things to think about in my own life.
Dirt, chainspotting, mbuk, mbr, mintsauce, rox, shark bites, chicken sticks, x-lite, crud catchers, bar ends, warner, peaty, martyn ashton, super v ravens, gt zaskars, pace, klein, proflex, gary fisher first name terms with nurses at the local cottage hospital, north wales. My teenage years 😊
Rob to me you will always be mountain biking. We were the school outcasts when you were riding in 96 and watching it all and waiting for each month of MBUK. Several goes round of falling back in love with biking but yes the ebike has made it for me this time. Gay as you like but I now like the ups as much as the downs. Take it easy bud keep going. Look at the time 😮
when we lived and breathed mtb in the 90s, we would cheer when RW dropped out of the gates. He only raced for the fun. He was us, he was the only one we related to. We all had one mtb to cycle to the trails, one bike to ride and race XC to DH and ride home again.
"...rim dinging down the steps" some line in an early mbuk, still makes me ride hard. What's the Giant stuff like compared to your e=Sommet? As long as the frame dont break cant see any reason to not keep mine for ages
Your freecaster days were the s**t You could relax, say what you wanted to, your passion for the sport came through and the freedom you had to say what you wanted vibed with the mtb scene because that sense of freedom is what we get from riding a bike
Oh, I thought this Rob was a clone or we were living in a simulation and that's why we no longer hear Rob making inappropriate comments. Don't I feel like a right knob now I know the full story 😂
I'm going to be 56 soon. I've been MTB'n since 89. Raced NORBA XC and DH in the 90's and 2k's. I just trail ride and occasionally park when I can. Rob, we need Red Bull to get the DH commentary back. Those guys over there are hacks. A complete snore fest.
