After reading Louise's comment about her efforts to have the powers that be change the line about people being run out of town if they don't belong, I came to watch this trailer. I have read all the novels (some multiple times) and I LOVE THEM. That being said, all novels that are made into movies or television series will be different in order to appeal to current/targeted audiences. I will watch the series, hope for the best, and be open to some new interpretations. Let's enjoy it as much as we can!!!!
A adaptation should represent the original not re-interpret it. I sincerely hope that the producers' arrogance doesn't disrespect the author or their readers any further.
One of the things I love about reading the novels is the absence of gore and the focus on the characters and what leads people to murder and not the murder itself, complete with blood and horror. The trailer makes me think the stage will be reversed.
The trailer doesn’t feel like Three Pines to me. I agree with most of the comments here, otherwise. Whoever put this together has no idea what the series is really about, do they. So some folks will not read the books because, well, just another thriller type thing… when that’s not it, at all. O well, it will be up to all of us to put people straight, those we know and love. Looking forward to the coming book, no matter what. Thank you, Louise, for holding the lantern of love and sanity for all of us in this currently violent world.
Saddened but not surprised that Amazon has not respected the source material & seems to have only mined the books for plot points. I love Alfred Molina & I love these books so I hoped for the best. This trailer lacks the humor, warmth and humanity of the series. It's as if the producers never bothered to understand why the fans love the books- it's not for a frantically told, cold blooded thriller experience. The books are about trying, failing, and trying again to live up to our ideals. No movie or TV series will ever or should ever deliver an exact replica of the experience of reading the books, but it is possible to honor the spirit of the source material. This isn't it. I do hope the full series is more on the mark.
I absolutely agree. When I mention Louise Penny and her writing to other people I talk about how she writes with heart and from the heart and how so much of the stories are about keeping to the heart of things and ourselves... I also hope for much less blood and such than what shows in the preview...
Yes!! I am on pins-and-needles waiting for this series. I am keeping an open mind but I whatever the TV version turns out to be in the long run...I'll always have the books. 💖
I can't WAIT! I have not only read the entire series I have listened to the entire series on audiobook as well. I think that Alfred Molina is the perfect Inspector Gamache, like, I can picture him in my mind as Gamache. I can't wait till December!
I discovered the Three Pines series only last year. Since then, I have read every book issued and await the new one. I like the actor chosen for Gamache. I never really had a definitive picture in my head of him but the visage lives up to the books. However, I am not over the moon with the decision to turn the books into a creepshow Gothic horror series. I'll watch of course but I'll reserve my decision until I see more.
"...creepshow Gothic horror series": I feel the same way - I wouldn't be at all surprised if LP does as well. She has commented on her efforts to resist other changes, e.g., Ruth's comment about the village that we hear in the preview. I know how a series/film of the books would look in my mind; I'll watch the series out of curiosity and with some hope that there'll be much to like despite this preview.
@@maryfarrand1799 there is more than a grain of truth in this... just because she says it, doesn't mean that's the way it is. And, I can actually see her saying something like this.
I already see my ‘pictures’ of the characters are not the same as those pictured here. I’m sure I will enjoy watching however. It is a shame the writers/producers do not follow your help in accurate portrayals of the characters you created ! I always find books to be better than the screen versions.
I've listened to all the books, so far, and love the series and characters who have become like old friends. I hadn't heard that it would become a TV series. I hope they say true to the spirit of Louise Penny's story telling.
I haven't decided if I want to watch this as I love the books and characters . Already know what everyone looks like to me anyways. I also don't have prime!!
I love Three Pines, truly, madly and deeply, lol, so I don't know if I can watch someone else's version of that place. I will try and hope for the best.
I too can’t wait! I wonder if it is OKAY for a “RETIRED SCHOOL TEACHER”, that would be me, to watch the movie! Just need to let everyone know that I am FINE! I know what to do: I’ll just leave the banana in my ear and then I won’t be able to hear you! I am just teasing! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂. I am on Book 11 now! Louise Penny, you are “one in forever”!
I always find it unfortunate that these companies cannot conform to the characters that made novels famous. However, I plan to watch and enjoy visits to Three Pines, even if I replay certain parts through my mind rather than my eyes.
The trailer is interesting. While it isn’t true to the books, it will peek a lot of interest in viewers whom are not familiar with the book series. They will then see the true heart of Three Pines and run out to purchase your many novels. Interesting how the signs are not bilingual either, just in English. Having lived in the Eastern Townships (Granby) from 1974-1978, and visited many times since moving away, I found this very strange. I guess they must make the show appealing to an American audience. I will definitely watch this series. ** Roy Dupuis would have made a more authentic Gamache, in my opinion, with his true French-Canadian upbringing I’m sure Alfred Molina will do fairly well though. 🙂
You obviously do not 'get' what Three Pines is about. I won't be watching. yet another screw up of Ms. Penny's books. Lousie - stop giving them permission to do this to your books.
This is not what I pictured. However, I knew it never would be. I pictured Michael Gambon as Gamache but I think Albert Molina will be interesting. Not sure about Ruth... yet. For all the death and intrigue, I'd hoped for a more classic, gentle take... underlying kindness. We'll see. It certainly is full of atmosphere. I'll be watching here in Alaska... far away in the woods.
Looking forward to the adaptation but although I really like Alfred Molina, I don't think he's the right choice to play a French Canadian character. A trace of Quebec accent would have been more appropriate here. Just saying.
I read Louise's comment before watching the trailer. I'm glad I did, cos this would've put me off watching it - it makes the residents of Three Pines look like evil nutters. Well, they are slightly nutty obv. I'll defo watch it and hope they do it justice.
