I've posted this separately but I'll post again here - The photographer is demonstrating how to participate in species extinction by acclimating a critically endangered group to the deadliest animal on the planet. Now that these young cheetahs associate human presence and human smells with benign safety, what happens in their future? Since there are fewer than 8,000 African cheetahs living in the wild today and about 300 are poached each year. And their range has been reduced to about 10%. So we viewers are going, awww, isn't that cute, isn't that sweet. Wild animals are not house cats, and their needs are not like house cats. If you like cat videos there are plenty on RU-vid. They're very cute and housecats aren't endangered. If we want cheetahs to survive at all, we need to consider what that involves.

Their relationship is so good that they're used enough to him that he can get that close without raising a lot of hostility. Guarded, but not hostile. Plus, two of those are still cubs. And mom's wise enough to just keep a close watch, but not react unless it's really necessary. Glad he was able to finesse it enough to get his gear back, but the bag was definitely worth more than the jacket.

@@Raison_d-etre In this individual case? It shouldn't do too much harm. Most wild animals only "bond" or get desensitized to one person. Add the fact they only did that as a group and skidaddled after? They're messing with that individual, testing their luck. It's not like meerkats perching on cameramen go around perching on cars and kids too. And with cheetahs that are naturally scardy-cats? No, not really so brave considering that they're cubs, and he also knows they're not hungry. And not so lucky, either, when you consider that he spent 9 months acclimating them to his presence, presumably from their birth. A housecat raised with a pet mouse won't hunt mice. What he's filming here is his own participation in species extinction by acclimating a critically endangered group of youngsters to the deadliest animal on the planet. There are fewer than 8,000 African cheetahs living in the wild today and about 300 are poached each year. And their range has been reduced to about 10%. Imagine explaining that to an insurance company-- "A cheetah stole my jacket!" "A cheater?" "A cheetah!" "Pardon me, I'm finding your accent hard to understand, now who is this cheater?" "Cheetah, and his name is Molwa!" "This cheater only has one name?" "Chee. . . . okay, the cheater's name is Molwa Cheetah!" "A cheater named Cheetah? Er, Cheater?"
