Hi. I took the Ather 450 for a spin. Pros and cons according to my riding impressions; Pros - Silent Start (creeps u out initially as one doesn't know whether the motor is on, or not) Very Light, so can skim through tight traffic. In the Eco mode felt like an Activa (pick up) which is a normal thing, Sports mode was more profound and had thrills weaving throw sloe moving traffic. And then came the Warp Mode (should have named it Beast Mode) Blew my head and senses away. If i wasn't a seasoned rider, would have fallen off the scooter or crashed somewhere... it really went ballistic and so fast the ride got over too soon) Cons - Narrow seat compared to Activa, so two up would be a squeeze. Light weight working against it especially with pillion, low center of gravity (battery under your feet withstanding), Apart from the while that accompanies the motor, a grinding noise and vibration felt whilst accelerating in any mode (salesman stated as its commonly used for test rides, not serviced) have heard this yarn in quite a few motorcycle test rides, low warranty as against mileage on both motor and battery which means higher costs in the long term maintenance and replacement department, very high 195000 INR in Bengaluru. Ridicules price for an EV that doesn't have regenerative braking, headlight spread not adequate, not enough EV fast charging stations across the nation, stiff ride (good for handling/bad for back especially in bengaluru crater filled roads, the list of cons are endless. My opinion - Too expensive and too many hassles associated🥰💓 with long term ownership. Going to try TVS Icube as per comparo. One last thing, i used to buy all the motoring magazines ever since i can remember. Have followed you and KS through every twist and turn (pun intended). You guys Rock, and Shumi, you are a God in the Indian Motoring Journo Space... Love the maturity the patience and detailing. WoW!!! Addicted to your delivery bro :)

@@motorinc the attitude of people from sale to service is too bad and the way they treat a customer with a complaint is like govt offices in the past.....i own a Jupiter 125 and regret the decision in terms of service, only good thing is there is a service centre which is better than the showroom.

1. Resale: This is impossible to say because it is too easy for the entire electric two-wheeler world. 2. Service: Most of these guys are charging between Rs 500 and Rs 800 for service. Add Rs 500 for a drop and pick up from home where it is offered.

Any inanimate object made of plastic and electrical components over awesome Indian roads, directly connected to the roads, no damping other than the tire's rubber is surely not going to last longer than a motor which is connected to the wheel by a chain or a rubber drive like that on a Harley insulated by road vibrations by conventional shock absorbers.

@@motorinc If hub motors were really reliable, why did not Tesla, Toyota and the others use them. In short why are they not main stream? No rocket science in hub motors. It would have saved a ton of space in the engine bays etc of all the Teslas etc and even differential costs etc, b'cs the diff would then be easily managed by software limiting the power to each wheel. And a diff costs a ton to engineer and make for motors like that in Teslas. Even systems like EBD etc could be managed more economically and easily with hub motors.

We don’t recommend Olas at all. Too many glitches.

Oh but it is cheaper than other electric scooters in its class. If people think cheaper automatically means quality compromises (and don't realise that the TVS has a smaller feature set) then perhaps they're not our audience. We won't spoon feed people -- it's not what we do.

Great point Vishal! Everyone MUST do their own research. It’s absolutely essential. The rest? The rear shocks are designed to handle the load. It’s literally how they are created and the idea that they won’t handle a load only says poor engineering- which TVS can rarely be accused of. As to efficiency/life? Every engineering solution is a tradeoff. Hub motors are cheaper to make and it does reduce the cost of purchase for a customer.

It's not a fault, it's very sensitive to voltage changes to try and protect the battery and that gets very annoying to live with. And yes, we have heard that TVS service is a pretty challenging experience

No you should be okay. Hub Motors, by design, cannot produce as much power as belt-driven motors. But there are no other issues that we are aware of. The only real-world issue you will face is if you need to remove the rear wheel, which is more complex with a hub motor.

​@@HSandeep you can do puncture repair but when want to change type then u have to go to showroom, regular mechanic can't do that

@@HSandeep i am not sure about wheel bend, if motor is bend due to impact on wheel then you have to toe vehicle.
