On National Train Day 2024, the Johnson City Railroad Experience (formerly George L Carter Railroad Museum) ran a special Rail and Sail charter on the Three Rivers Rambler. Chattanooga Traction Company 4 and Knoxville & Houston River 2391 lead the train from downtown Knoxville along the Tennessee River to its head at the confluence of the French Broad and Holston Rivers. After returning to town, the passengers embarked on the Star of Knoxville riverboat for a lunch cruise down the river. While the Rambler used to offer year round steam and diesel excursions many years ago, these days special charters like this are the only opportunity to see and ride the train outside of Christmas, so I just had to make an effort and I had a good time chasing, despite an event blocking the McWherter Park shot and some very loud trucks at the bridge.
