A comparison of 3 Shure V15 models fitted with the MicroRidge stylus.
Shure’s Micro-Ridge stylus was their first and only line-contact stylus with an extremely thin tracing edge. The shape closely matched that of the record cutter head with a contact edge that traced over 80% of the groove wall resulting in greater detail and clarity of the recorded material. The Micro-Ridge stylus was first used as an upgrade to the Type V cartridge in 1983 and later used as an upgrade to the Type III and IV in 1985.

I miss Shure cartridges. Working in the industry, I liked their sound immensely. You would think they could make a limited comeback with the 'vinyl revival!'

Agreed. I’ve got the Shure M97xE and still fall in love every time the needle hits the grooves. Still also have the Shure V15VxMR. That gets brought out on special occasions. Wish they would come back. 💔😔🙏

I love the V15-XMr cartridge! One is in use, plus I have 4 sealed NOS for backup.

The midband sounded crisper on the iv and v to me but all are magnificent and better than anything made today. I wish I had a time machine and could go back and buy all these new. Shame on Shure for abandoning phono cartridges, especially as it takes years of knowledge and skill to perfect.

Thanks for this video. My Type III with the VN35MR is sublime. I had no idea the stylus wasn't available when the cartridge was introduced. My second favorite of my cartridges is an Audio-Technica AT-VM95ML, also with a microline stylus.

I found an old Shure N97 ED w/ the ERA IV stylus at a thrift store. It was on an pretty nice Akai deck. I tossed the table but kept the cart. Under the microscope the stylus is perfect. It is still clear! I don't think it was ever used! I'm using a V15 type 3 w/ a Jico SAS/B on a Thorens TD 125 w/ SME 3009 v.2 arm. You know alot about cartridges, so may I ask you if you know anything about an AT13Ae ? I was told they are an audiophile grade cart. Thanks for such Great, informative videos.

I have a V-15vmr that I've been using off and on with the two NOS VN5mr stylus assemblies I got with it ten years ago. It's just a wonderful cart, and was what got me off of my brief fascination with LOMCs. I also have a V-15iii body that I should really figure out a stylus for... so many options for it from Jico. Would love an original VN35mr, though.

You have to wonder why Jico can't just make them the same as the originals or buy the rights from Shure. They'd have us all in the palm of their hands if they did.

@@analoglooneyI have one for my Type V MR. Its very nice but for most records(mainlu classical music like this channel) I listen to the Pfanstiehl 4772-DE and it sounds great.

I will no longer spend any money into series III, because the filling of the body hardened like glass and is prone to shatter resulting in internally ripping off one or more of the ultrafine copperwires. Happened twice on me. Too sad, loved them.

All great carts but they were the ugliest cheapest-looking things!

Ι disagree, I think they were really pretty, but not in a silly kind of way, that some other cartridges do.
