Hi Julie I had a ride round this route today starting from Cromford train station. It was a lovely day out, but the drop down the Pennine Bridleway to Chee dale was definitely a walk on the wet rock and mud. However saying that I don't think my bike skills would even allow me to do otherwise in the dry. Look forward to getting out there again in some warm weather.

Hi Roger. Glad you enjoyed it. Polished limestone is never easy eh? Especially in the wet. The thing is that sketchy bit does get you off the road which is a bit narrow with quite a few bends- you have to keep your wits about you . We are all ready for dryer weather - that's for sure . Take care

Hi Julie. I’ve just come across your channel and I’m so glad I did. I can’t help but watch with a smile because your enthusiasm and smile is so infectious. I’m going to do this route in spring. I will start off at Lea Mills so will have a nice climb to start with 😧 I live in Shirland near to Alfreton so I’m not to far from the start.

Hi Julie, me and my mate did this ride yesterday, but with a few tweaks. We started at Thorpe Station on the TT then rode clockwise. We skipped the chee valley downhill scramble to the Monsal trail and instead did the downhill to Millers Dale. Lastly, after the huge Middleton incline, we stayed on the high peak up to Longcliffe, then dropped down to the ford before climbing up to Tissington and rejoining the TT. We did this to avoid Carsington as it was the hottest day of the year and we couldn't face 2 more climbs, also wanted to do a bit more high peak, before descending again so soon after Middleton top. You could also continue up the HP then cut across to TT at Biggin. All in all a great ride, thanks to you!

Heh thats great thanks. Yep Carsington can be a nightmare when the weather brings everyone out. Timing is everything there! Thanks for your contribution.

@@JuliePhelanExplore Yup it will be my longest ever ride (60 mile). I did the Chilterns 46 mile this month as a tester and really enjoyed it. The hills (up to 35%!!) and the muddy puddles (up to the bottom of the crank) were out in force:)
@JuliePhelanExplore
@JuliePhelanExplore 11 месяцев назад
@@darrin2382 wow ! Well done. I can't think of a climb in the event area that's as steep! If some of the route is on the trails you will get time to recover and back off a bit. Regular fuelling is the key. If you are thirsty or hungry you've left it late. Have fun. Sorry I won't see you but I wish you best of luck breaking your next goal. Let me know how you get on. Have fun.

Its a great route for this time of year. The only sketchy bit , due to polished wet limestone, is a relatively short section down to the Monsal Trail. Have fun.

Hi Julie. Did you ride the High Peak Trail last Saturday (27 May)? I thought we passed each other and I remember thinking if it was you . . . and like you do, dismissed it as I thought what was the odds of that happening . . then I've just watched the above 😊.

@Julie Phelan West Yorkshire based. High Peak, Tissington and Monsal are on my regular go to places. Get the bike loaded onto the car and travel down. Did the High Peak Trail about 3 weeks ago as well. I was on a mission for that one. Last year I did the HPT but planned on going back on the Tissington Trail but cutting across part way down to get back on the HPT back to Middleton Top. I kept looking for the turning but missed it and ended up at the end of the TT in Ashbourne !! Luckily, google maps got me back to my car. So returned 3 weeks ago with the route plotted on my new garmin and all went well. Last week was just to do the HPT in glorious weather and enjoy the cafe stop at Parsley Hay. Met some nice cyclists there chatting over lunch. Luckily, it was the best day of the BH weekend for weather and had a great day out.
