However, even that falls short so I respect your final statement that in the end we need to simply surrender to this great mystery. I surrender to the profound threefold mysteries of the Trinity, the Incarnation and the Resurrection.

I am not a Christian or a religious person at all. I would describe myself as agnostic and secularist. But I've always considered the mystery of the Trinity as the most attractive aspect of the Christian religion. It's often attacked by non-believers as something silly that makes no sense, but I've never felt that way at all. I see the Trinity as an exercise in humility. It's a way of acknowledging that if God is what we think it is-the infinite and almighty entity that created reality itself-then it is silly and arrogant to assume limited creatures could fully grasp its nature. Creatures being bewildered by the reality of God makes sense to me, and I think Christians are the ones who acknowledge that the best.

Wonderful illustration, how do you present it to a friend that is Pentecostal when they come back at you with this. We believe God is the Father, he created us, Jesus the Son is god man in flesh and we believe in the Holy Spirit, the presence and power of God. If they are 3 persons are there going to be 3 bodies in heaven. No they have 3 roles that are necessary for our salvation. allow me to explain. Only a true human could die for our sins and could take our place and shed his blood. So Jesus had to be the Son of God in order to die for our sins, but in order for the Son to be born, no human could do that, God had to be the Father of that baby born in the womb of a virgin and then salvation is not just because of what happened 2000 years ago. It has to be applied to our lives today. How does that happen God comes to us in his Spirit. So God's not eternally 3 persons named Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but God has operated in our lives as Father, Son, and Spirit for the specific purpose of redeeming us, or saving us from our sins. So with that as a background 3 persons but 1 God would be a distortion because it interjects this idea that in the nature of God there is some distinction, or separation, or division which is not practical for these reasons, who are we praying to we need to know for sure, are we praying to 1, or are we praying to 3. When we get to heaven who are we going to see 1, or we going to see 3, that makes a difference who is our faith in and the significance of the name of Jesus we need to understand because when we pray in Jesus name we expect demons to be cast out ( Mark 16:17 ); ( Luke 8:26-39 ); ( Acts 19: 13-17; 16:16-19 ;8:9-22 ), and people to be delivered and healed ( Matthew 9: 2, 22 ) ( Acts 3:6; 19:11,12 ); ( Mark 16:18 ) , and receive the Holy Spirit ( John 20 :22 ); (acts 2:4,2:38 ; 8:12; 19:2-7 ); ( 1 Corinthians 2:14 ). But if the emphasis is on Father, Son, and Holy Spirit then the name of Jesus is not magnified and we don't receive from God what he wants to give us. So there are a lot of practical reasons why we need to know the answer to this question and if there is any message in scripture that is emphasized is that God is 1 that's stated in ( Deuteronomy 6:4 ) Hear o Israel the Lord your God is 1 Lord, reiterated by the Lord Jesus in ( Mark 12:29 ). This 1 you got to get right .

Thoughtful...but for me...the minute you say "three persons"...you do have three minds - though he explicitly denies this...and you have violated the term "monotheism".

This mystery is one of the things that makes Biblical revelation more convincing. It makes sense that the divine would be beyond human comprehension, and it points to the conclusion that the Bible is not merely a product of men.

The Hebrew Scriptures makes it quite clear that Yahweh is the first and the last. There is no God besides him. It also warns against worshipping any gods that “they” his chosen did not know.

I want to tell you the fascinating story about when the Trinity verse was added to the Bible. This is a well-documented fact, detailed in "Whose Word Is It?: The Story Behind Who Changed the New Testament and Why" by Professor Bart Ehrman, an expert in biblical textual criticism. In the 16th century, Erasmus, a Dutch scholar, produced the first printed edition of the Greek New Testament. The New Testament was originally written in Greek, but had been translated into Latin over the centuries. Erasmus aimed to create a critical scholarly edition based on Greek texts, relying mainly on late medieval manuscripts from the 12th century. Erasmus’s edition of the Greek New Testament was later used by the translators of the King James Bible and other versions until the end of the 19th century. However, the Greek manuscripts Erasmus used were not of high quality and were produced about eleven hundred years after the originals. For example, his main manuscript for the gospels included the story of the woman taken in adultery and the last verses of Mark, which were not part of the original gospels. One key passage missing from Erasmus’s manuscripts was 1 John 5:7-8, known as the Johannine Comma, which explicitly supports the doctrine of the Trinity. This passage is found in Latin Vulgate manuscripts but not in the majority of Greek manuscripts. The King James Version includes this verse: "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one." Bart Ehrman notes, "The Greek manuscripts that Erasmus used were not of the best quality... produced some eleven hundred years after the originals." Erasmus did not find this verse in any Greek manuscripts he consulted, so he omitted it from his first edition. This omission outraged theologians of his time, who accused him of tampering with the text. Erasmus reportedly agreed to include the verse in future editions if a Greek manuscript containing it could be produced. Consequently, a Greek manuscript was created in the 16th century, likely by translating the Latin text into Greek. Despite his reservations, Erasmus included the verse in subsequent editions. These editions formed the basis for the King James Bible and other translations for centuries. The phrase "Textus Receptus" refers to this widely accepted form of the Greek text, despite its reliance on inferior manuscripts. Modern textual scholars now insist on using older and better manuscripts to base the Greek New Testament on scientific principles. The Textus Receptus, though still revered by some fundamentalists, is based on late medieval manuscripts, whereas earlier manuscripts, such as the Codex Sinaiticus, do not contain the Johannine Comma or other later additions. Ehrman explains, "This passage... states the doctrine directly and succinctly," but it "was not in Erasmus's primary manuscript or in any of the others that he consulted." This realization challenges the solid basis for the Trinity doctrine in the Bible, making it difficult for some Christians to accept.

Personally, I think its an insane belief system. It is bizarre.

The trinity theory is false: Jesus states and reiterates to be WITH THE FATHER ONLY , for ex. "...You will leave me ALONE. Yet, I am NOT ALONE because THE FATHER is with me.".Without the Father Jesus would be ALONE! I.e. no trinity is there. Jesus is RIGHT! The reason is that the Holy Spirit is exactly the Father who is a spirit (Jn. 4:23,24). They are not TWO DISTINCT SPIRITS inside Jesus, i.e. no third person exists! With arrogance the councils of the fourth century decided to ignore the Jesus' words in order to enforce their NONSENSICAL, INVENTED, CONVENTIONAL doctrine, where Jesus is with TWO PERSONS...NEVER! "those who will BELIEVE in me through their word so that they all may be one, as you, FATHER, are in ME, and I in YOU. THEY also may be one in US..." (believers, FATHER and SON, Jn.17:20,21), no trinity with the believers, no trinity anywhere! The Church must repent for her arrogance and accept Jesus' words.

Our carnal minds do not see our self's objectively , we think very highly of ourself and the mind leads to self-righteousness and vain imaginations . A carnal mind thinks only of I ,Me and Myself and to even compare your carnal mind with the Trinity is totally absurd . Yes, Bishop. When I pray I just pray through faith it is like my parents. My parents are the breadwinner, our care taker and our loved ones. It is just 2 person but they become different "role" in our lives that is how I see the Holy Trinity. When I project an image in my mind I imagine that God who is a beginning when he made the universe and all the glorious entity Resting on Jesus Christ's head and heart and the Holy Spirit, who sometimes become a dove or very omnipresence who makes me feel good when I pray.

the more i listen to Christian leaders try to explain the doctrine of the Trinity, the more confident i am that it is not true. it is a clumsy, contradictory doctrine of trying to fit the deity of Christ into the Jewish belief of monotheism by using Greek philosophy. this philosophy was developed by men long after the resurrection of Christ, long after the death of the disciples. do you really believe that Peter, James or Paul would not be shocked to hear that God had been turned into a three person deity? we have Jesus own words, folks! He walked this earth for 30 plus years and never once mentioned that God is a three person deity. His disciples walked and talked with Jesus for 3 plus years and then lived for another 30 - 60 years and never once mentioned that God is a three person deity. this doctrine of a three person deity was created by men - i am not saying they did this with ill intent, but in my opinion they are nevertheless wrong. trinitarians will say that Christ and the disciples inferred a three person deity - wrong, wrong, wrong. i grew up with the trinitarian doctrine and when i finally looked into it i was pretty shocked. Athanasius of Alexandria was not the saint he is portrayed to be. there were many bad people on either side. there were excommunications, murder and bloodshed that went on for hundreds of years by proponents of this doctrine in order to get it to become the orthodox position. these events are part of the historical record, yet the vast majority of people have no idea. there would have been a huge blowback by the monotheistic Jews that were accepting Jesus as the Jewish Messiah if the Apostles had been preaching that Jesus was somehow the 'second person of a three person deity'. can you imagine the uproar back then? we read nothing from the Apostles regarding discussion of this doctrine -none! the Apostles spoke on a diverse range of problems the early Church had; there is not even a peep about the doctrine of the trinity (hint: it was never talked about because it was never thought of). even the Apostles words that directly contradict the very idea of a three person deity have to be dismissed or misconstrued to fit this mess of a doctrine. i believe Jesus is divine, that He died for my sins. that Jesus is the Son of God. what i don't understand about Jesus and about God, i know i will eventually understand - that is what Paul stated and i believe that. we see dimly now, then we will know fully to condemn believers in Christ and God as somehow damned heretics for not accepting the gobblygook of trinitarianism is quit damning to those doing it. Christ said we would be measured by the measures we use. be careful, brothers i don't condemn trinitarians and believe they will be saved, although to preach that God is somehow a three person deity is something i would be worried about when the time comes to meet your maker

Something that has me so confused, If in Matthew it says to call no one Rabbi or Father why do we call men Fathers of the church? I'm not implying their impact and there usage by God to be a vessel, but why do Catholics (universal) call men Father; say to a man "forgive me Father for I have sinned", asking a man for forgiveness. I am lost on where this comes from. I am lost on where a Pope gets such authority; it doesn't keep me away from God but it does keep away from the building now called a church. We do have modern day Pharisees and Sadducees do we not? Those people with that type of mindset weren't done away with were they?

Consider the fundamental components of the nucleus of the atom neutrons and protons. Each is made of three quarks. Quarks are bound to one another by a gluon field which has the property of getting stronger with distance like a spring. Quarks can never be observed in isolation at temperatures friendly to life. Furthermore quarks are constantly morphing into different “colors” mixing and blending. What we see is the neutron and proton which makes matter. God has mysteriously imprinted the Trinity on all matter!

Yes, please commit a "little act of theology'! We need more of this from our priests so it is clear that our faith is deep and reasonable. If so, the Trinity is easy to understand, if we do not understand. It is a mystery. I don't question. I believe. It is called faith...

Jesus speaks about "The Holy Trinity" to mystic Maria Valtorta which is written in her book "The notebooks "......He says ....."On saying 'Father,' I was also saying 'Spirit,' for the Father is One with the Spirit, and I am with Them, and whoever blesses One blesses the Three, and whoever is loved by One is in the arms of the Three, for there are not three Gods, but one God alone with a triniform nature and a single unity. "Great is the Father; great is the Son; and great is the Spirit. Powerful is the Father; powerful is the Son; and powerful is the Spirit. Holy is the Father; holy is the Son; and holy is the Spirit. To the same degree. "The Father comes in his unity generating us. The Son comes with his saving origin. The Spirit comes with his septiform sanctifying flame. Bishop Barrons ability to explain these deep and so often misunderstood concepts of God is what helped me convert to catholicism. These same concepts are at the heart of other great religions about the same one God , and one great mystery.

Missed a golden opportunity to explain the multiplicity of the Holy Spirit as the definitive expression of the 'gift of love' and how God's command to be fruitful and multiply in scripture has its origin in the Triune God's gift of Self. The gifting of Self that is recipricol WILLED giving---All that the Father has to the Son and the Incarnate Son giving up His life to fulfill the Father's Will manifests this action completely. It is in the WILL of the mind that St. Augustine's analogy holds and there is nothing more beautiful than a will that says, "Be it done unto me, according to Thy Will." The Annunciation of St. Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary explains the relations of Father, Son and Holy Spirit to our spiritual mother---Grace-filled Daughter, Holy Mother, and Enlightened Spouse. Again God is agape (caritas) and the life-giving sacrifice that comes into human form as Jesus Christ---God who saves us---is the ultimate act of agape (love) and the model of Divine LOVE. Focusing on 'love of self' blurs this commanded fruitfulness in both the spiritual and temporal realms.

There is NO trinity! Jehovah is the one and ONLY Almighty God. The name Jesus means "Jehovah is salvation"!

I'm not that smart. I don't understand the Trinity. I can't even understand the "Dunity," how the Father and the Son can be two persons and one God, let alone the Trinity. But that's one of my best arguments for the Bible being the revealed word of God. Since no human being -- sorry, not even St. Augustine -- can explain the Trinity, how can the Bible be made up by human beings?

The love analogy is not as profound as it is touted. God being love has nothing to do with having other people to love. Having other people to love is an expression of love, it is not what defines a person as love or capable of love. Take for example, a child born is capable of producing a baby post puberty, but they they don't have to produce a baby to demonstrate this capability They are capable of reproduction whether they do or not Same with God God can be love and yet does not need to have anyone equal to him to love for his nature to be true

Good rewind: "understanding...or at least not understanding, beginning to get a sense of what the Trinity is about". 3 Templates are profound. But at the end of the day, Knowing/understanding GOD's fullness is beyond human comprehension. And that's acceptable.

"God is Relationship" ... all reality are relationships - viz., all scientific "laws" are relations / relationships ... "relativity is absolute"?

Why on the offensive that a father or mother would sacrifice themselves for there children 1+1 =2 2+2=4 4+4=8 and so on... God's sacrifice was not stretched God the Father.

What is the holy trinity? 1. God the father (he is holy) 2. Jesus the begotten son of God (he is holy, begotten son of God means that God created jesus in his mother's womb miraculously) 3. The holy spirit Now we know who God the father is ... Jesus is a proof that a human being can live a holy life inspite all the temptations that he was subjected to. Jesus is not God the father. The holy spirit is the spirit of God that is in all human beings that keeps us alive. That spirit was in jesus too. So, to clarify, a human being is made up of 3 parts : body, holy spirit and soul (which is the mind, the consciousness, the memories, the identity gained through our thoughts, senses and life experiences)

I think a great image is that of a married couple: both persons are complete, but together, they contribute something else: a uniqueness that is breathed forth from and by their union. It is, in a way , quite similar.

Absolutely loved Bishop Barron’s elucidation of the Trinity 👍 Every Sunday should be Trinity Sunday, since it has been neglected, to the point where God has been reduced to just Jesus. If we lose sight of the Trinity, we lose sight of God. The Trinity as a communion of persons expressed as Speaker, the Word spoken, and the speech shared underlines God as relationship. It could also be said that there is a speaker, a listener, and the breath, since no speech is possible without breath. There is also the Giver, the giver of thanks for the gift, and the generosity and spirit of the gift. Another way of looking at it is: the Mystery or the mythical, the prophetic or the prophetic path, and the energy of spirit in action in the world. As Bishop Barron said, the Trinity really is fundamentally real. Once you see the pattern, you begin to see it everywhere. From the mysterious silence of the One, comes the Word or Logos, which would not be a relationship without the Spirit. Within the Trinity, you have the three faces of God; the 1-2-3 of God that, incidentally gives rise to the Fibonacci number series, which shows up as patterns within nature, and from which we get the Golden Mean, as well as spirals. (I could go off on a tangent about the many spirals in nature and that the pattern of evolution is a spiral, combining both the cyclical and the linear. ) The very cosmos bears the imprint of the Trinity, which shows up everywhere; think protons, neutrons, and electrons; positive, negative, and neutral electrical wires; solids, liquids, and gases; nouns, verbs, and the descriptive adjectives and adverbs; thesis, antithesis, and synthesis at a higher level than that of the opposites. We also bear the image of the Trinity, since there is no “I” without a “we,” and since it is impossible to exist as a person without other people. The Trinity opens immense vistas onto the divine. My special thanks to Bishop Barron for his interesting, insightful, and inspiring talk on the Trinity.

Original Trinity should have been: God, Adam and Eve. But due to the Fall, God's providence was supposed to conclude with: God, 2nd Adam/Jesus and 2nd Eve, Jesus' bride. But, this did not happen due to Jesus being rejected and killed. So, God's providence was extended through: God, Jesus (God's Only Begotten Son) and the spiritual Holy Spirit. It will conclude when the 3rd Adam (Lord of the 2nd Advent) and the 2nd Eve, God's Only Begotten Daughter, finally are blessed at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and forming the eternal Trinity God desired long ago.

Good Bishop, please, *please* do what you can about the scandal that is Ven. Fulton Sheen's cancelled beatification. We are counting on you.

Everybody should know the truth. The doctrine of the trinity comes from men , and was held and voted upon in Turkey. All three concils, Nicaea, Constantinople and Laodicea were held in Turkey. In Turkey, rev2:12, Pergames, is where the throne of satan dwelleth. Doesn't that tell you something and maybe open your eyes . Another thing, Jesus told John, in the book of revelation, to send warnings letters to the seven angels and their churches. All of theses letters are in Turkey where the throne of satan is. Please, reread all of the letters, because it does warn us about falses doctrine . Peter, also warns us about false doctrines that will come about with false teachers. Praise God our Father, the one and only true God, wake up, please, wake up
