Hello, Esther. Thank you for watching my video. The process for adding accent marks to existing letters with "combining" marks also works for numbers. You'll find the steps at the 2:50 point in my video. (There's a timestamp in the video's description box.) Best of luck!
Great explanation and video. BUT, what a convoluted process! Whatever happend to simple keystroke applications for commonly accented letters, eg the 'e' in cafe!!! IMHO, Word continues to go backwards!
Thank you for watching my video. As long as you haven't changed your default settings, Word will still automatically create the accented "e" in very common words such as cafe.
If you go to the AutoCorrect dialog box, you can edit your default auto correct word list, including the word cafe. To get to there, go to File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > AutoCorrect. I hope that helps!
Thanks for this video, very helpful; users just need to make sure that the "From" box in the lower RH corner is set to "Unicode (hex)" otherwise the Font Subset dropdown menu won't appear...
Find your accented letter, press shortcut key using either commands ctrl or alt plus mark plus letter, then press assign. I use alt v for čšž, ctrl, for ęį, ctrl. For letters ė, ctrl ' ćśźń, ctrl/ŁØ, plus already assigned ctrl grave vowel àèìòù, ctrl tilde ãõñ, ctrl, ç, ctrl & æœß, ctrl @ å, ctrl circumflex âêîôûŷŵ, ctrl " äëïöüÿ,
Hey ! I'm Afifa and I'm a linguist. People write in these symbols so that it's get easy for the people of other region to know the accent without the help of native persona help
TIP to people with earlier versions of word/windows - Hi, I discovered this method only works if you choose the font style "Arial Unicode MS" from the drop down box on the left - it's the only font that gives you the drop down option on the right "combining diacritical marks" . Other fonts like Calibri don't allow you to combine diacritical marks. Once you've combined the letter and the accent mark in Arial unicode MS, you can then change the font to Calibri or another desired font. This tip is for people who don't have the combining diacritical marks supplement installed. Hope it helps someone.
Excellent tutorial. I just started working for a new principal who has an accent mark in her name and I couldn't figure our how to insert it. Now I know. Thank you!
Ugh, these are all options for languages that don't rely on accents. I used to be able to just type them, but something in my settings changed... Can't find it anywhere
Thank you for watching! I am wondering if the languages you were using are no longer installed? One way to check is to go to Review > Languages > Language Preferences > and then look under Authoring Languages. I wish you all the best!
Thank you so much, Erin! I always wondered where those various accents, cedillas, and all those little suckers were hiding;) Thank you for flushing them out for us:)) Your tutorials are clear, concise and most helpful. You have a voice like a bell, with crystalline clear & pleasant delivery:)
Erin, you showed us how to create a cedilla, which is nice, however not how to create it with the letter, such as Ç. I added this 'Ç' by typing 'letter c with cedilla' into my Google search engine. In fact, this is how I find any accented letters necessary to write French, Portuguese or Spanish words properly. I came to your tutorial hoping to learn once and for all how to simplify this process.
Very, very clear, I did not know these options, thank you. When writing in French it is a bit cumbersome to each time go to insert , what is your suggestion please.
Thank you for watching my video! If you use the same accents repeatedly, it would be worth learning the keyboard shortcut for each one. Most have the shortcut listed at the bottom of the Symbol dialog box. Normally, the shortcut will be a 4-digit number followed immediately by Alt+X. Best of luck!
You are an angel sent from heaven, I have a paper due which will require authors names and we all know that names have many different accents. This was the BEST how video I could find. Thank You Very Much for this video!!! (excitement)
I used to correct (change french words after typing from without accents to the words with accents) the words with the help of spell & grammar check and dictionary, it was faster, now I forgot how I did it, can anyone plz help!!
Hi, Amit. Thank you for watching my tutorial! I can't guarantee this will work, but you may want to try going to the Review Tab > Language > Set Proofing Language > French.
Brilliant tutorial Erin, thank you!! It took me so long to find out how to insert an accented letter in to one of my videos but your tutorial provided me with a shortcut in seconds. Thanks again
Thank you for watching my video. I'm not a Mac user, so I can't offer any information about that. However, accent marks are part of font files, so you might want to see if you can find Latin Extended if you switch to a different font.
Thank you for watching my video. I'm not currently familiar with keyboard shortcuts for math; however, you can add many math symbols by using the Equations button above the Symbols button in the Insert tab.
Thank you for watching my video. The techniques shown here only work in Word. If there is a specific accented letter you need, you may be able to find a keyboard shortcut for it. There are lots of keyboard shortcut lists available online. Best of luck!
