We've put our new Three10 through the motions with a Jazz, a short scale and a five string bass. Now comes the real test - precision! We match it up against our flagship 12XN - The Super Twin - and the results speak for themselves!
Let us know what you hear, what your experience is/has been with 10" vs. 12" and, of course, do let us know if you'd like us to cover something specific in future videos.

Yesss. Nice. Thanks for doing these. It took me a bit, but I now really appreciate the style of these videos. It's like being in the shop with someone else testing cabs, not an overproduced marketing video. I must say, I REALLY like the Three10. That would work really good for me as a damn fine rock tone. And now I'm torn, because my initial plan was to get one of your 12s for the accuracy and then play around with modelers and maybe cab sims if i need more "color". What am I gonna do now 🥲

I’ve had the pleasure of playing through a few of your bass cabs when borrowing gear over the years and loved every one (from memory they were a 2x15 and a 2x12). I’m a guitar player that has always just loved my fuzzy severely detuned guitar through bass speakers (usually 10s) This 3x10 looks right up my street! Really practical and super sounding.. I must get hunting down the sofa back for some cash :) Oh and Love these chilled and honest feeling demos by the way.

The Super Twin is the absolute winner for me. The 3x10 has something in the midrange that annoys me to death. Also the 3x10 is weak in the lowest low range (at least in comparison with the 2x12) which is also a big no for me. Sorry if I'm too specific I want bass form a bass cabinet and bass for me is in between 20 and 50 Hz. When that range is there then you can feel the bass is there without covering frequencies of other instruments. I've used Big Baby 2 in the past and I've never been happier than that time.

Yo Alex! Idea for a new video that I'm sure we would ALL love to hear your input. Mixing the two types of speakers demo!!!!! One 12 and one 10. That's what I'm looking to do to have a small 10 for practice. A 12 for most gigs, and finally the 10 on top the 12 for outdoor gigs! PLEASE demo the sound of both speakers a/b and then together in unison. Thanks brother!!!! Would be awesome

This is the comparison I was hoping to find, as someone who doesn't slap if at all avoidable (as you said, almost always unnecessary) my choice is the Twin. Although I'd have to get two of them, I like to biamp, and I think it's the most direct and honest sounding cab with which to do that. Expect a call when funds are available.
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 11 дней назад
@@Coylee91 when you say “biamp” do you mean wet/dry or clean/dirty? Email for detailed discussion!
@Coylee91
@Coylee91 11 дней назад
@@BarefacedAudio I do clean/dirty biamping, similar to Geddy Lee or Billy Sheehan, a clean low almost sub tone, and a more harmonically rich drive covering the rest of the frequency spectrum. I could probably get away with 2 single driver cabs if playing a smaller room or using DI to FOH, but who doesn't love to move some air when volume can be pushed?
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 11 дней назад
@@Coylee91 are you overdriving the power amps too, or is all the dirt at instrument/line level?
@Coylee91
@Coylee91 10 дней назад
@@BarefacedAudio No, I tend to run clean, solid state power amps. My plan is to get a 2 channel power amp, probably a class D designed for PA, each channel taking either the clean or driven sound, and run the cabs from that so I can keep the separation.
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 10 дней назад
@@Coylee91 I thought that might be the case! So you don’t need to run two power amps and two cabs, there’s zero benefit because the 12XN is so clean and accurate (and any good solidstate power amp will be too). It would be different if you were pushing the power stages into distortion (like with valve ones) or using speakers that weren’t as clean, but with our 12XN cabs and solidstate power you can blend all your sounds before the power amp. With my own rig I’m sometimes running up to six signals in parallel but it all goes through one power stage into a pair of 12XN speakers (a dual BB3 stack).

That's the outro riff from a song I wrote back in 2006 - getting riffs like that to work in a fairly loud rock band, whilst also playing chordal stuff and needing tons of clarity, was one of the main reasons I started designing a better bass cab for me. And so Barefaced was (accidentally) born!

I much prefer the big twin as I love the warmth of the 12” driver. Being a BB3 owner I’m a bit biased.
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 8 месяцев назад
I really wouldn’t call our 12XN driver “warm”! If you put a warm tone in then you certainly get a warm tone out - it’s very good at being very honest like that. But it doesn’t add warmth itself. I’m a big fan of it for fat warm tones but they only happen when I make my bass+amp create fat warm tones.

it would be neat to hear the difference between the 610 and the big twin 3 since they're really close in power handling and size like these two cabs!

Alex, you really need to get a decent standard bass player in to demo these cabs. If I didn't already have a Barefaced cab & know how great they are, these demos would not persuade me to buy one, just sayin 🤷‍♀
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 8 месяцев назад
Can I ask what you mean by “a decent standard bass player”? Apart from complex slap, tap or widdly soloing, I can play pretty much any style of bass and lay it right down in the pocket. In these videos we’re literally making it up as we go along, listening to the sound so we can talk about it, not just playing riffs we’ve already learnt and practised. We’re messing with what we do to hear how the cab responds. And we’re demoing - and equally importantly discussing the sound of the cabs, so we’re not wholly focused on playing. Name me a “decent standard bass player” and one of their famous bass lines that would meet your requirements because I will be amazed if I can’t nail that bass line.

Three10 is definitely my favourite. What are your thoughts on having a bass cab raised off the floor? Should it ever be done?

It changes the boundary reinforcement from the floor boundary - it’s quite complicated to explain but trusting your ears is the way to go!

I don't think you're half as tyrannical as you say..! I liked your perky driving bass playing, makes me want to play along, on guitar and definitely get behind a kit... I even enjoy your English snobbery -, just shows you at least know what you like and don't like.. and you're an observant listener. The ideal band mate for making original music.. Best wishes to you... I'm saving up!!! Starting from.... NOW.... please don't go bust!!!

We did Super Twin vs Three10 because they’re the same size with more similar goals and if you get a T version they have the same tweeter. Big Twin 3 vs Three10 isn’t a puzzle I expect many to need solving, it’s more likely to be BT3 vs Six10!

The Three10T sounds really good as voiced. It seems to have a natural upper mid scoop. Would it be a little more mid forward turning up the typical 1000Hz upper mid control on your amp? Also, do these 10" drivers have ceramic magnets?
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 6 месяцев назад
Yes, the "C" in 10CR is for ceramic. You can bring the mids way forward with EQ - we'd got it all set flat on this video.
@solemashi
@solemashi 8 месяцев назад
i can see why IRs are getting so popular when marketing for amps sounds so under produced. these vids sound like practice amps and weak DIs. you can’t beat artistically & professionally recorded amps for marketing, but you can get more facetime this way sure
@BarefacedAudio
@BarefacedAudio 8 месяцев назад
The WHOLE POINT OF THESE VIDEOS is that they’re not “produced”. One honest sounding mic picking up the sound in the actual room, not a close mic because that’s not what you hear. No EQ. No compression. Absolutely NO CHEATING. This is simply the most honest way to represent how cabs sound in a room to those present. Anything else would be disingenuous - I’m sure most brands are taking that approach of applying studio production techniques to make their cabs sound better but we are not going to do that. Our products market themselves because we make arguably the best guitar and bass cabs in the world. These videos are to educate and inform and are valuable resource for us helping potential customers with their decision making.
