Thrice quite literally changed my life. I was wallowing in dark places when I discovered them. I wasn't sure who I was (my own identity crisis, ironically). Who would I be? Where was I going? Before Thrice, I'd never encountered such depth in music - particularly in lyrics. I became a thinker - a philosopher, of sorts. So I quit my job and went to college. I earned a degree in Creative Writing, and am now less than a year from attaining a Master's degree. I'm teaching composition, too. Thrice4E!
If there was any integrity left in the Grammys, this would have at the very least been nominated for Best Rock Album. The Grammys literally don't mean anything, this was one of the best rock records of 2011.
Not only is thrice truly lyrically and musically exceptional, but they seem to have an adept understanding of cinematography that connects to both their song's themes, but to their audience.
Love to hear how everyone is so passionate about Thrice. Well deserved. These guys are great and very generous. If mainstream artist were as charitable as thrice instead of throwing they're money in the air then there would be much more love in the world. Thrice is great. A band whose albums I buy instead of downloading for free just to support them and what they do.
I was mentally prepared for this hiatus Thrice...my heart...that's another thing. We'll be waiting for you guys when ever it is you decide to return. "Our love is a loyalty sworn"
I love Thrice unlike any of my friends that only like "the old thrice" I am 25 years old. I grew up listening to thrice for the last 10 or so years. Their music style matured just as I'm sure most of us here have a more mature playlist than we did 10-12 years ago. Love Thrice/ All us fans!
"We are cowards and thieves Will we never turn to grieve The damage done" This is poetry. The past 3 years without any new Thrice has been rather bland. Music nowadays has lost all quality. I'd rather listen to the same 5 Thrice CDs than listen to the crap on the radio(Just my opinion). We miss you Thrice and I know we will see you soon.
Love this band so much, I wish Teppei would show off his guitar chops a little more and throw in some sweet guitar solos, but none the less this is amazing.
...imagine what bond between these guys must have evolved over 10 years of such drastic progession....they are nothing less than a family its so perfect...everything they do...
Las Vegas, May 5th, perhaps (but hopefully not) the last time I get to see thrice live....EVER. I know it's going to be a great show, cause they are possibly one of the best bands to ever come together. Thank you for the 13 years of incredible music, men.
We are cowards and thieves. Will we never turn to grieve the damage done? Never see, never quake with rage at what we have become? What we have become!!!!!!
Thrice have a consistency unparalleled by most bands. Even with today's short attention spans, it's damn hard to not sit down and listen to a whole Thrice album if not their entire discography in one sitting
thrice is taking time off for family and.... lumberjacking. they will craft the best guitars out of the finest wood, and together, as a band, will travel all of skyrim and slay any dragon that threatens the band with their master level musicianship
I was six when they started, my oldest brother had heard rumors of a masterful conception in Irvine. Twas Thrice, and my life hasn't been the same since.
Man thrice from the begging up until now is one of the most amazing experiences I've experienced. They have grown and evolved as a living organism would. Truly a phenomenal band.
i agree, one of the most influential, original, deeply moving bands to ever record music...ive been a fan since the beginning and always will be, their musical progression has always been moving forward yet you can still hear their seeded style in a post hardcore genre...IMO greatest band ever.
I had to wait 12 hours to find out my new work schedule, and by that time, the last tickets for Wednesday's show are sold out. :'(!! I'm sorry, Thrice!! I wanted to see you once, just so badly! Thanks for the 4 years you personally made my life better! No one can touch you guys.
I'm 15 years old, back a few years ago when playing Tony Hawk, I heard Image of the Invisible and loved it. I started getting into Vheissu and loved the different styles it offered. Just I started listening to Artist in The Ambulance and thought it was amazing. I got Beggars and thought it was a masterpiece. This song is now one of my favorites by them along with Beggars, Red Sky and Deadbolt. Thrice have for sure changed the way I view music. If only society knew what they were missing. :/
I agree with victor. I found this band when I picked up the illusion of safety at random 10 years ago. I haven't disliked a single or album they've put out since, but they age like fine wine.
thrice is so amazing because they push the limits to every genre of music to where they can't even be identified.. very poetic, golden voices, and originality are very strong points of this band, which is extremely rare these days.. and not one song sounds the same, this is what real music is! Thrice really is the greatest band of our time.
I'm with you dude, I started listening to thrice when I was about 15-16, when I really got into music and started branching out with Illusion of Safety. I love all of their stuff. All of it.
i couldnt believe when i read that statement from dustin. But I respect and understand what he says and i will be waiting to the end of my days for another album.
absolutely love this band...they have been the most consistently good band over the past 10-15 years in my opinion. everything is amazing. their best feature in my opinion is how they can change their sound so much from cd to cd, and yet its always so good, and has so much support from thrice fans. its sad to see these guys go on hiatus..but they are lining up their final tour (i'm definitely going to at least 1 show) and you can actually vote to influence their setlist right now
This video needs more views!!!!! Thrice has been my favorite band for almost 10 years now. I'm definitely going to support Thrice with whatever directions they take musically. Seen them live 9 or 10 times. Just an incredible group of guys playing amazing music. By the way, Dustin's beard is super raw!!!!
call me a pessimist. but for me this is the not-so-much happy sequal to "the weight". first everything starts out great in a marriage and later it's the cold realisation that not everything is happy and butterflies. I know it's not the happiest interpretation. ;) I still love both songs!
Maybe, but it can also just be the other side of the coin, too. The Weight is all the positives about being in love and bearing the weight of marriage, and Promises is about the people who shy away from putting the work into love and relationships and let them fall apart because it's too much hard work. Dustin can call those people out in Promises because he knows what it's like to have the type of relationship as in The Weight. Makes it not as much of a downer. :)
wow is was thinking g the same things but from a different angle of perspective..........in regards how the weight put a heavy emphasis on words not being empty...now here comes the negative of the color scheme.color inversion.
I think they've already disbanded :( Tragic. But hey, Come What May, you know? They're a huge cornerstone in my and so many others' lives and I'm thankful for everything they've given me (:
Biggest awesome song - crappy music video lifetime achievement award goes to Thrice :( But seriously I love you guys and have for over a decade. The way you evolve and mature is freakin' splendid and Major/Minor is the best album you've had since Artist in the Ambulance in my opinion.
The only band i listen to that win awards are The Foo Fighters. I really dont care what other people think when it comes to music. I like what i like. I dont need anyone to tell me different.
