Bahahaha..... I love all the old punky albums and that's what hooked me, but every album since vheissu has impressed me even more each time. They have evolved and not sold out, their music is STILL not really radio-material... and that pretty much says it all!
hundred percent agree with you bro! i've listened to many a band in my life and none really come out with the originality that thrice has. every part of them is different from anything else from teppei's guitar to dustins voice. plus i love how they dont care what anyone else thinks. they play cause they love music and what they sing about drives them. no selling out here. plus i dont think there is a more talented song writer in the world then dustin. they are simply put, amazing.
Name 10. I listen to a LOT of music, a lot of pop music, a lot of mainstream rock, indie, and post-hardcore (like Thrice used to be). There are not any bands putting out records that are musically the same as major/minor. Their songs are heartfelt, the musical arrangements are simple yes but very distinctively Thrice and perfectly executed. There aren't 1000 bands that sound like this, just the one.
OR 2017?... :P TBEITBN was pretty awesome in my opinion!!! LOVED the fact they're back & still making GREAT MUSIC! I feel their newest album is almost like a compilation of all their albums throughout the years. They have remnants of previous songs throughout the whole album (to me at least), but they also had a new enough sound & had obviously grown just like they have from album to album. One of my favorite bands of all time & I think they're DRASTICALLY UNDER-RATED!!!
i dunno that ive ever heard any other band in the whole wide world who can address the problems of the world and dig into what the human mind and heart truly long to understand and know than thrice does. i mean do you really not hear what he's singing about here? ITS BEAUTIFUL!! and words in the water? listen through me?! TREADING PAPER??!! they make you think. i mean anyone can sing about sex and drugs and violence. yet not one of thrice's songs are about any of those.
yeah I wonder if they recorded live off the floor too because they sound spot on here , I'm actually recording with my band in a week and a bit live off the floor and this is the sound we want lol
@Likemothstoflame You mean 'this'? Never had a chance to see them live, they never came to my country and I couldn't afford to go to Germany, so I have to believe you on a word. Such quality videos are all I have. :]
well i guess you could be right about sound. there could be other bands out there i dont know about that sound like them now and it might be that ive listened to them for so long i can here teppei and dustins guitars out of a thousand and one other ones or the sound and beats on rileys drums. even the fast paced more "guitar soloic" playing of eddies bass is hard for me not to recognize. haha when people ask me who else do they sound like im lost for words cause i have no idea
@Pugnacio I 100% disagree. Though you have the right to your opinion and I respect that, I think Thrice's new album is amazing as their previous stuff. As a band, they're not the kids they were then Illusion of Safety and Identity Crisis, let alone Artist came out. If they put the same album out time after time, there'd be no reason to keep listening to new stuff. Music is an art and is something this band continues to show undeniable talent with.
Also, does anyone know how they recorded this album? Did they actually do the norm and record instruments separately? Or did they just play as a band and fucking kill it (in a good way) like they're doing here? So few bands can sound like this while playing live together; it really is remarkable what they're doing here.
@Pugnacio Not only that, but at least to my ear, they have very meaningful lyrics, and I can set this band apart from ANY other band nowadays. Few bands have the integrity that Thrice does as musicians, and few can boast the diverse following throughout their WHOLE careers that this band has earned. :) The only album of theirs I wasn't totally thrilled with was Beggars, and it was still good in its own right; just seemed maybe a bit rushed in the end.
I agree with those that say this is an amazing album...but it's not my favorite. I liked Vheissu and Alchemy Index much more; they were mature, experimental efforts, but they kept some of the earlier hard stuff; especially Dustin's harsher vocals, which were actually better than they ever used to be, and really punctuated key parts of songs in (imo) a jaw-dropping kind of way...think 'For Miles' or 'Daedalus.' This album kind of lacks both the slow, building moments, and the cathartic releases.
I'm going to do you a very rare internet concession: you are absolutely right about their lyrics. In fact, I'd even say Thrice has grown lyrically as time as passed. You win in terms of lyrics... Now let's talk music. There is nothing about this song (or a single song after 2003) that is particularly creative. Seriously LISTEN - I can point to you 1000 bands that sound like this. The angst and emotion thrice used to express in their youth was tragically brought to a close once they struck big..
