I hope they never stop, making music, evolving as a band, and moving my soul, the discography of Thrice is like 80 percent of the soundtrack of my life. Underrated, underappreciated, and one of Rock music's best kept secrets.
This song has new meaning today. I worry that any relationship I form will fall apart once we're on the other side of this crisis. It's a fear I didn't know I had until I heard this song.
This song is a parable so we are able to connect. A man hopeing his woman will stick with him after the storm is over and now they are stuck with loving conversation instead of bearing problems and the man is worried she will leave after there is no longer a use for him. God is jealous for you. He wants us to glorify him in the good and not only seek him out when the waters get rough, but praise Him when things are good. But stay with him and love Him by His grace and mercy. It speaks of our marraige with Christ and the Lord not wanting us to leave Him.
I almost cry today listening through the new record, it was like every song was made to touch my soul in ways I didn't know it can happen, that was such a magical moment, full of peace and light
This may be a bit late, but replay buttons have feelings too - so I would like to inform you that you can right click the play button and tick "loop" to listen to this song forever without ever having to harm another replay button.
“Stay with Me,” is an homage to one of Dustin’s favorite Josh Ritter songs “The Temptation of Adam” - about a couple who fall in love after taking shelter in a missile silo fearing the end of the world. Here Dustin imagines their above ground and post-apocalyptic analogue, but in both songs, the protagonist is haunted by what would happen to their love, should they find “the war was over.”
You were a silhouette A shivering shadow in the mirror, ash and snow I took your fevered hands Felt like embers of the world's dying cloak And you were phantom light as I carried you quietly through the crumbling streets And in the fading light I could see in your eyes that somehow we were meant to meet Would you stay with me? If you thought the war was over And everything made right Would you still believe in us? Would your love for me grow colder? With no one left to fight Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me? After the fever left Together we scavenged through the city and the scars When the day would end Bar the door against the viewers and the dark We'd share a can of something And a bottle of bourbon I'd hid away It warmed me from within And you from without till I forget the chill ingrained Would you stay with me? If you thought the war was over And everything made right Would you still believe in us? Would your love for me grow colder? With no one left to fight Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me? It seems like every night I lie in bed and worry that the world would start to heal And now I'm terrified That if it did you'd start to ask if what we had is real Would you stay with me? If you thought the war was over And everything made right Would you still believe in us? Would your love for me grow colder? With no one left to fight Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me?
this album is a masterpiece i cant even believe it. usually their new albums take me a couple months to get accustomed to this one has only taken a week for it to be arguably one of my favorite ladder half thrices
This is my favorite song on their new album. Been listening to Thrice since Identity Crisis... this Wednesday I get to introduce my wife to my favorite band. Looking forward to a great show! LL
in a period (I call it period but I know I don't want to admit it's just adulthood) in which i feel emotionally switched off, I thank Thrice to be able to still making me feel that 'something' under the chest
Ryan Baldwin Definitely pick up his newest cover album and carry the fire, those are amazing. And if you want more of the "younger dustin's voice" sound, definitely get please come home as well.
I thought this song was about a wife and husband at first, and it very well could be, but last night listening to it again I realized this song was about my relationship with God and how I get so close to Him when we have a common enemy or "war" to fight, but when it's all over our relationship starts to fade. It's that up and down cycle we go through. When life is going good and I start to forget Him then I'll experience another fight and have to humble myself and turn to him again. Going through that right now. This song is beautiful.
Kyle Gowers yes. This song is a parable and connects at our human level and is really comparing Gods love for us and the Lord being jealous for you and does not want us to leave Him
Have the same sentiment. It reminds me of what the 'alternative' radio is flooded with these days like Coldplay etc. Still better than most of that though.
You were a silhouette, a shivering shadow in the mingled ash and snow I took your fevered hands - felt like embers of the world's dying glow And you were feather light as I carried you quietly through the crumbling streets And in the fading light I could see in your eyes that somehow we were meant to meet Would you stay with me If you thought the war was over And everything made right? Would you still believe in us Or would your love for me grow colder With no one left to fight? Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me? After the fever left, together we'd scavenge through the city and her scars And when the day would end, bar the door against the demons and the dark We'd share a can of something and the bottle of bourbon I had hid away It'd warm me from within, and you from without till I'd forget the chill and grey Would you stay with me If you thought the war was over And everything made right? Would you still believe in us Or would your love for me grow colder With no one left to fight? Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me? Oh, it seems like every night I lie in bed and worry that the world will start to heal And now I'm terrified That if it did you'd start to ask if what we have is real Would you stay with me If you thought the war was over And everything made right? Would you still believe in us Or would your love for me grow colder With no one left to fight? Would you stay with me? Would you stay with me?
