Every time I make something, I think about how grateful I am to my mother and her mother (my Nanna) for teaching me how to sew. I don't even want to think about how much money I've saved over the years by making my own clothes, or altering clothes I already own to make it fit better or make something entirely new with it.

Sewing has taught me so much about thrifting. I can recognize good construction and natural materials now more readily since I started sewing so regularly. Binding every seam with bias tape is very couture. I'm so impressed that you unpicked all that quilting to make the bias tape! Feels like thrifting and sewing is the way outta the fast fashion mess we all find the world in right now. You're the best Wendy!

Way back when.... at least 50 years ago, in 'needlework' class at school, I was taught that when you make your own bias binding, you cut the ends at a 45° angle. This way when you sew them together they aren't thick in one spot, if you know what I mean. I took needlework for 3 years which I seldom use, but is helpful when I need to sew a button, or hem things!!!

SO FLUFFY! just a few quick tips, when you join bias tape do it on a diagonal so the bulk of the seam is staggered and not just one big bump to sew over (there are lots of tutorials on joining bias). Also: for diagonal/curved necklines if you stay stitch (straight stitch a line of normal size stitches close to the neckline edge right after you cut it out} you won't get the wobble/stretching that makes it not lie flat. I might need to make one of these coats now!

This is such a fun silhouette! How warm is it? Wear it with long matching gloves! To join shorter sections of bias tape, sew it along the grain - i.e. bias to the bias. Less puckering and it distributes the thickness of the seam over a longer area so it looks smoother.

I could totally see myself making this for a kid as a coat or a fun dress.

I’ve always wanted a jacket that’s like a blanket cause it’d be so comfortable now I know I can even make it myself

i am enjoying this. i recognize i am a trained designer in a male cinders (from cinderella)l kind of way. Your way of showing systematically what i have done well a couple of times in my life to create really cool clothing is nourishing and helpful to me to be able to reference and repeat my success. Especially now as i can hardly tolerate not wearing exactly what i want to create for ME by ME. thank you for your work and for your style.

Our styles are so different that I'm always taken aback at (do I need the "at" here? English native speakers please help?) how pieces I would never ever wear look absolutely wonderful and fitting on you! I love it so much!!

I think "taken aback by" would be more correct, but using "at" would also be fine! 😊

I am so impressed that the white stayed so clean....no animals walking across it while on the floor. And no swearing....edited?

I LOVE that, fellow Canadian! I really like, and enjoy That style. I appreciate watching your uploads, as they help support my learning and feeling at ease that I can do this kind of thing too. The coat is beautiful.
