You're so entertaining. Would love for HGTV to make a show with you. An American 'Cash in the Attic' would be fun to watch. TLC could do a fun show with you traveling to cities to do evaluation shows, visit local thrift stores, estate sales or even some home visits with people who inherited things they can't identify or value. You have a lot to teach and a fun way with people that would make for a great series. Your RU-vid series is great, but it would be awesome to get more depth: add that element of the people's stories, closer looks at objects and deeper history behind objects.

I just subscribed to your channel, I wish I would have seen known you were out there a while ago! I have already learned so much! I am new to the art collecting and have a few good pieces that I have gotten for cheap at yard sales or thrift stores. My husband bought a painting at a yard sale for $8 of a Matador signed Carlos and was still in the 1950’s frame. I did some investigating and found out it was a Carlo of Hollywood and sold it for $770.00!

Purchased 4 gouache paintings by Italian artist Lucio Ranucci at an estate sale. I went to get a tiki bar. Someone beat me to the bar. Between the bar and the wall was a heavy plastic sleeve which contained the paintings. Glancing at them I knew they were mid century (which is my love). I thought they were prints. When I checked out at the sale the cashier asked me what they were. I told her they appeared to be some art prints stuck behind the bar. She charged me $15 and never looked at them. After examining them I knew they were real. Three were dated 1968 and one 1967. Written in tiny pencil on the back corner of each was "Gouache $75". I have spent $400 dollars having them framed and they are incredible. At another sale I purchased a small piece of art that was hanging in the owner's bathroom. I recognized the fauvist style still life and it had a pencil signature and date so thinking it might be something, I bought it for $10. It had been professionally framed many years ago so the mats had discolored. I removed it from the frame and it appears to be a lithograph signed by French artist Raoul Dufy with a 1948 date. I read that his signature was forged a great deal so it may be a forgery. Kept the original frame and had it matted and framed again and it is lovely. Bottom line: I live in the Birmingham, AL area. Not a place you would expect to find valuable art but it is out there. Always check basements. Like the works by Ranucci, sometimes the art appeals to one spouse and the other one does not like it and it ends up in the basement behind the tiki bar. Always carry a light. Use your phone camera zoom to examine texture and peer behind the work. Dr. Lori come to Birmingham, Alabama!

I used to get faked art from college art majors at syracuse university when I worked for a vintage/antique shop there. Some of them weren’t bad. I bought my son Starry Starry Night and he still loves it, and he is 46 and married with a family. We don’t mind fakes sometimes (even from a guy who cut off his own ear. Lol)

I love hearing you inform people what they purchased, and had no idea of worth or lack thereof. You certainly retain it. My memory is not that good.

I loved this!! It's amazing some of the art that people just give away not realizing what it's worth. Thrift stores have some of the greatest treasures just waiting to be found.

Negotiations with Goodwill doesn’t work. I’ve tried many times. Even with stains, which they are not suppose to put out. They will not come down. You have to try to get it out or put if back. Speaking of clothing, etc. Other thrift stores probably will but , in my experience, not Goodwill...

I WAS going to donate it to charity, but after watching you I spent a few minutes and did some homework. I know its not a $50,000 Picasso, but the best I can find its about 75 to 100 bucks. I paid 25 Cents!! I'm happy!! Thanks for your advice...will be watching your vids from now on!!

Dr. Lori, I got mad respect for ya kiddo. You know more about art history and history all together. And I have been interested in history from as far back as I can remember. On the sellers side of getting a “bargain’ is concerning. Don’t get me wrong because a bargain is a good find any day of the week. However when you know what you have in something you need to at least make a little something. Thrift stores not included in my comment. It’s a another story when you are downloading your life before the estate sell. Humble Opinion 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I just recently bought an oil painting by J. Henderson. I've seen almost identical image on worthpoint but can't see a price. It's called Beautiful Bluebonnet Path. It has all the texture of an oil painting, on an older canvas and is signed. Still trying to find out if it's real.

I found some antique Mexican tables that match in 2012 at a Salvation Army in Austin. They have all the signs of being really old with brass fixtures, old wood slats in the drawers and Monterey style ceramic trim but they are marked as being made in actual Mexico not Monterey CA. I can't find anything to compare them to. Do you know anything about something like this. Have you ever done a clip about Mexican antiques ? I got then for 70.00 for the set.

Why would a painting be cut off of the stretcher? I found one like this and am lost.

I have a question for you up here in Canada and went to a yard sale and there was a huge painting for sale for a dollar and after listening to you about art I decided I would take it but the woman said to me you can just have it it's free and she gave me another piece of art which has no signature I don't even know who the person is but it's beautiful and she just handed it to me and says you can have both of them for free talk about negotiation a Lori from $1 to free. :) Anyways I did some research and the signature says H Nordstrom.. and when I go on the internet I can find c h Nordstrom but I can't find an H Nordstrom. The H Nordstrom looks identical to the c h Nordstrom. I'm wondering if it's the same person and just sign the oil painting as H Nordstrom is that possible? It's not framed however there's a couple holes in it unfortunately which I know you will say it brings the price down. But the other art is also an oil painting about the same size and no signature and it is all so old Soho on the world could anybody recognize the artist when all it is is about five colours and it's an abstract it's not realistic. Usually if the painting doesn't have a signature it's probably not somebody that would be identifiable so therefore you can't get much from a painting that was not signed? But I wanted to know if you know if h Nordstrom could also be the C Nordstrom are carl h Nordstrom. In other words the same person would leave the C I would have his signature and just sign it as h Nordstrom? Thank you

The Staff at all my local Thrift stores have been instructed not to negotiate with customers. Most of the stuff for sale has been valued too and now it's really hard to find a decent Bargain. They don't get it right all the time though.

Look, I love a good deal as much as anyone does. But, Dr. Lori, if you know the piece is worth MUCH more than $4.90, then gladly pay $4.90! Why negotiate? You're already getting a steal. The artwork has already been insulted by the asking price.
