You are THE SHIT Dr.Lori. Your level of knowledge in just one type of collectable item is impressive. Now multiply that how many times? You are impressively knowledgable in such an extremely wide range of items. It blows my mind. I've been watching different videos with you in then all evening. Hours. The other thing that blew my mind is you exist in the first place. Where the hell have I been? Around I'll tell you that much. I'm... oh god......gulp...47 now... wheeewww. And just now found out about you. Heres the kicker. Your located about 10 minutes away from me. Mind b b blown! BRAVO LADY! P.S. I complement people that impress me this much as often as I meet people that impress me this much. Which is never. Until now that is.
Dr. Lori , I just found your video's , you are so very knowledgeable that I will start watching your video's thank you for sharing your knowledge and, making it fun to listen to you as well.
Watched this video again today and went to goodwill to waste time between two appointments. My son found a lithograph he thought I would love. It is beautiful and it was a hot to hear him quote Dr Lori. He looked up the artist while we were there. We found it being sold on different sites for $175. I love you have sparked his curiosity, and I got a great lithograph out of it.
Thanks for sharing. When you say "being sold", remember it hasn't sold yet at that price. It's still a price, not a value. Plus, those sites could have mis-identified and incorrectly valued their pieces. It could be worth more :)
@@DrLoriV thank you. Great lesson. I could not even try to sell. Have you seen the show a million little things? The lithograph is my John moment. I stare at it while I am sick and feel good. I will pass the lesson on to him. But thank you for making him feel good, getting him reading more. That's priceless.
Hi Dr. Lori, "Sherry baby" here! I am loving your videos and learning so much. I actually saw something on a "free" table at a yard sale this past weekend, knew what it was because of you and picked up an original Japanese woodblock print (after checking for the bleed through in the back). Thank you, thank you for your words of wisdom! Sure wish you were around Boston area. I might just have to drive down to CT to an event!
Happy to hear it! I do events all over including Boston. I have to be invited to appear. Tell your local fair, festival, home & garden expo to host one of my events. My staff is in talks with a group who is thinking about hosting an event in CT. Keep tabs on my schedule at www.DrLoriV.com/events
Dr Lori... it's awesome what your teaching us. Thank you. It saddens my heart to think of what people get rid of that is our history. It's a wonder their not getting rid of us older people. 🤔
Where has this Dr Lori & her amazing channel been all my life?!? LoL but honestly I had to subscribe, I really enjoyed this video. I look forward to watching many more! I've now got the rest of my week end plans out. 😻
Another video, another to learn ur amazing Dr. Lori. It's okay to send photo from my few collections Dr. Lori I want to sell it but I don't how much...thank u very much
Lol wait till you see what I have..I got it up here in Canada at Value Village and it was a huge honking big watercolor as soon as I walked in the store I looked at the back wall and I seen this art and Isis this looks valuable but it wasn't much to look at. And so I took a magnifying glass and I looked at it and it was very fine brush Strokes watercolor and I have a huge red Oriental stamp.. indicating the signature of an Asian person. And I said to myself this is one painting I'm going to buy and I think it was only like $29 or something it's about 4 feet by 3 ft. ..I am looking forward to getting everything I have appraise by you. A friend of mine says why don't you just get everything appraised by your local appraisers?? I said are you crazy lol this woman knows what she's doing after watching you for months I have no doubt in my mind that you are a professional and besides I know what locals can do. You're honest and I've been scammed by dealers and I don't want to go there mind you I'm not saying all dealers are like that don't get me wrong but why would I go anywhere else when I got you LOL so looking forward to doing this pretty soon I got a ton of stuff and the reason I want to get rid of it or sell it is because I'm becoming a minimalist..and live a simple life. Have a goid day or evening Lori parlaci di nuovo😊
Hey Dr Lori Does Sara Coventry costume jewelry have any value today. My mom sold it in the 1960/70s. Asking for her. She was just curious. Thank you Dr Lori. You are my go to for all things that may have value. I always have your videos and such pulled up when I go thrifting. You help me almost everyday. I'm learning a lot and making my "mad money"!
@@DrLoriV I bless you in the name of Jesus because you have helped me so much providing me with information and this is out of the kindness of your heart.
Doc. Lori I have a question some of the picture frames you said were worth only $500.00 and to me they looked so lovely thought worth a fortune can understand about the pictures didn’t look very good.I have enjoyed antiques since a kid my Mother helped me to appreciate them and their value both to keep in the family and if urgent need of money if need be could sell one or two.😍😃I hope we get to meet one as I also trust your judgment more than people around Oregon 😉Toini
Hi Dr. Lori OMG !! I just found you , I Love your video's & your funny too lol . 😁 I have this old mirror that was my grandmothers as a little girl i alway's thought it was Jesus sitting on a horse with his arms out Praying . It is a Indian maybe a Chief ? Sooooo many people Love it & say's it must be worth money . I have tried to find out who this Indian man Praying is to no avail . It's a Awesome Picture . I will go on your website & try to send it to you . Thank You for your video's Lori so glad i found you . 💖 Where are you from ? Im in Hunterdon County N.J .
Dr.Lori thanks for your knowledge I've learned so much. I found a 14k brooch at a market from the Victorian era. maybe? but those markings on it led me to believe it's from that era.
Omgoodness I have a woodblock Japanese print by kitagawa utamaro its Yamauba and kintaro. I've learned how to find out about this stuff because of u. I haf it fir a long time before I finally opened it ti find its original envelope and a letter in Japanese and translate to English and a really small black and white picture attached to the back. I also got mine from goodwill for $9.99. One day il be able to afford a multiple appraisal I have so much to show u.
Happy to help. I have options as low as $49. Many of my events offer you a free review paid for by the event’s host. Check out my schedule at www.DrLoriV.com/events
I was born in 1961. My uncle was in Japan in the service at the time. My grandmother sent him a photo of me. He had a portrait of me painted on silk. Is there any value to these?
I am so enjoying all your videos! Easy to learn so much in the very humorous style you instruct in! My sister was moving and she threw away a lot of pictures. I was unable to stop her in time for most of them but one caught my eye so I grabbed it. This art Print of Homer's "Breezing Up" was free in the 1960s if you bought One Giant Cascade at the National Gallery of Art. However the front right corner has Homer 127 written on it. I know its not worth much but had to save it. I was able to tell how old the print was from the little metal triangles used to hold the print in...which I learned from you!
Yes, they are. You also must know what to look for. And, you didn't give up when you went about selling the print either. That can be done too as you've mentioned.
@@DrLoriV I have been a dealer for 35 years but I also had great luck when I was just starting out with art, all one needs is to develop an eye for quality.
WOW..so If you don't think that the work isn't worth appraising you say it's not worth it..that's a nice thing you do.. Most appraisers of I've spoke to before will charge you and then tell you after it's only worth $2 mean while you paid 40 fifty bucks for an appraisal thank you I didn't know that.
I have a couple questions to ask you. About a year ago I got you to appraise a lot of things in mind and there was one in particular that I didn't think was going to be extremely valuable and it wasn't that valuable but it was worth $500 after you appraised it and it was a girl aged Nordstrom 1876 to 1965 circa 1960 anyways I got it at a yard sale and it had a dollar sign on it so I stood there for a while and asked if should I get it? should I get it ?and the woman seen that I was indecisive so she says to me, you can have it free! And even in the condition it had a hole in it which you were aware of and you still appraised at $500 I was really surprised however my question is with that price have gone up since a year ago or gone down as my girlfriend says it's probably gone up and i said I don't know I'll ask Lori. Because I want to sell it.
Honey, I'd have to see your piece again to answer that question. I'm sorry I just don't remember the specifics. I've seen approximately 20,000 items in the last year :)
Question. what age were you when you fell in love with antiques? I love the history of items more than the values. i will be sending in a picture of a bear that caused a lot of greed and anger with my ex in-laws soon. Hehe (scoffs) 😉
I think I got a Japanese woodblock, but it's not on paper. It's on material..maybe silk not sure. A little frayed aroùnd the edges but ok condition. Anyone know what it is???? Or how much I can sell it for??
I have different options. Do you need a written report for each item? Or, do you have many items and an email reply from me would be ok for your needs? All options and fees are outlined on my website.
I can help using my Ph.D. in art history. I do need to see it to verify what you really have, its condition and other factors that affect value. Can you bring it to one of my events at www.DrLoriV.com/events?
Don't worry Terry, there will always be finds out there. I see people try to look up stuff all the time and they still mis-identify things :) Happy Thrifting!
My values are based on what people really pay. My online appraisal reports show you place(s) where similar pieces sold and for how much. My website and videos offers tips to sell and how to avoid pitfalls.
@@DrLoriV I have recently found your videos on youtube. Big fan I have been dighing through thrift stores garage sales for years picking up oil paintings Japanese porcelain things that are overlooked now but in the future could be worth a fortune. Gobble it up now because one day you cant.
Welcome Nick. It will always be there. There is always someone who doesn't want to be bothered correctly identifying a piece. I've seen it for over three decades. Good luck thrifting 😊
