I’ve been quilting for 25 years now. I’m addicted for sure. I love vintage quilts, reproduction fabrics, traditional quilts, scrap quilts, and even crazy quilts. You might say sewing is my life.

Cindy, I'm blown away by your dedication to preserving and restoring of so many things! I love old quilts but I rarely USE them, because I'm not going to go to the lengths that you do....sorry, just not MY thing. I once came across a very old quilt so tattered and torn it would have been impossible to repair it. A friend volunteered to thoughtfully and gently repurpose it into stuffed bears and bunnies. She tagged it with a short history and cleaning instructions.Some were donated to various church nurseries. They continued to live on for another generation to love and cuddle. Now, I'm going to start looking for odd napkins because those are definitely the cutest pumpkins I've seen in a long time! And I'm in awe of that dough bowl. Gorgeous.

Hi Sharon! Some quilts are in too bad of shape to repair. I love the idea of making other little things from them - that’s a great idea! I made stockings from one several years ago. I think I like making the repairs because it is slow work that helps my mind to slow down. Also, it’s not a huge commitment like making a whole quilt. Thanks for watching 😊

Cindy, yes! Love quilting. I learned how to hand quilt during the Bicentennial - wow - loooong time ago! Have hand sewn and machine sewn many. Have also done many repairs on them. Like you, made clothing for my children, myself, and even made shirts for my husband, curtains, other home decor. Am now a needlework designer creating wool and cotton applique patterns even though I'm "retired" from my profession. I cannot imagine not having something to sew, whether it's embroidery or quilting. And I better not forget crocheting! 😉And like you, always hunting for an antique or thrifted item. Kindred spirits!! PS: I use my butter pats to hold a used teabag when I drink from a mug instead of a cup and saucer. So my pats are always in use. I rotate them so I can enjoy all of the different transfer patterns on them.

Yes, Diane, we are kindred spirits in many ways! I drink tea also and I love your idea of using the butter pats. I’ll start doing that myself. I am the same about sewing but I don’t so as often as I used to because my hands have just worn out, it’s a sad thing, but I can still hold a paintbrush! 😊

I've ALWAYS wanted to grow flowers that i could cut and use in our home. Your zinnias & allium look FANTASTIC in your blue jar!! I think your little brooms are adorable hanging together like that!! The bigger broom is beautiful (as are the iron hook, sun hat, and baby clothes in your laundry room)!! I don't think I have any whisk brooms now that i think about it. I agree that your little pitcher looks right at home on your mantle! I need to stop watching RU-vid videos at night, too! I like your footstool, but if you decide to re-do it, I will watch. It's pretty, though, so you're the one who has to decide. Your napkin pumpkins are so cute!!! 🤎🧡💛❤️

If you decide to start a cutting garden - plant zinnias from seed. They are soooo easy and produce so many blooms for a long time. Mine are still doing well even though the hurricane made them lay in the their sides - they are still making blooms🌺🌸 I hope you can plant some next spring!

I want one of those egg beaters so badly. Lol, I’m way past that age and I need a lamp that. My mom started me on embroidery when I was 5 but the thing was she’d fuss, “ by the time I was your age I had to piece together a quilt square”. At 5? Yes. I love quilts and I absolutely love old things. I don’t sew, except to repair something or hem my pants. I agree with you on the fabric in the beautiful quilt. They didn’t have the luxury to run to a fabric store to buy cloth just for a quilt. My mom used pretty much everything she could except dress pants and jeans. I love how you did the pumpkin.

I remember sewing classes, Cindy. I first started sewing classes in junior high, wasn’t a lover of sewing, until I took an elective in high school called, creative home arts ( in 1977 ). I was taught how to needlepoint, embroider ( loved both of those ! ), knitting ( hated that, my stitches were too tight ) and crocheting ( which I loved !). The crocheting came in handy when I made baby outfits and blankets for my two children. Also embroidered pillow cases for my bed. I think you should hang your hand beater up under the cabinet where you keep your measuring cups. Loved your mantelpiece with all of your ironstone pieces! Gorgeous! Lastly, thank you so much for the tip of spreading your quilt over your bed, using a ceiling fan to dry it. I would’ve hung it over my clothes line and probably would’ve stretched it. Sorry, this is lastly, I think you should redo your footstool, I can’t wait to see what you do with it! I’ll go with your decision, since you usually make the right ones! Btw, love the cloth pumpkin! Adorable!

I think we were in high school at the same time Donna! I graduated in ‘81. Sewing classes were my fave but we also learned needlepoint, clothing sewing skills, mending. I don’t remember learning any yarn arts but maybe my memory is failing! I’ve done a ton of smocking, shadow embroidery and regular embroidery too. Having a needle in my hand is one of my fave things but my hands are not happy about it anymore! 😊

In the past, I've blamed it on my ADHD and bipolar 😂😂😂. I'm so very glad and grateful for the lesson in how you repaired the fraying quilt!!! My Mom had passed away last year and she had 2 or 3 quilts that were made by my Grandmother, so now I know how to go about repairing them!!! She also had some that were stained, and I've tried several different methods to get the stains out, and so far, nothing has worked. So now I have new product ideas to try on those stains!!! Again, THANK YOU FOR A VERY INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL VIDEO!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I love quilts, and I have since I was a little girl. My maternal grandmother was a big quilter. My father was a career Army officer so we moved every few years and never lived near family. However, when he was sent overseas and we couldn’t go, we lived with my grandparents. When I was 9 years old and we were living with them, my grandmother helped me make a quilt for my dolls. I still have it to this day, and have made some small quilt pieces since. I have just retired and hope to finally be able to do some quilting. I have lots of old quilts I inherited from family and cherish each one of them. I haven’t known how to best repair an old one though so I greatly appreciate what you showed in this video. I also have a collection of whisk brooms and like your idea for displaying them. Please redo your little footstool. Either refinish, or paint the wood base and reupholster the top. @@ReinventedDelaware thank you so much because quilt repairs have baffled me. I think some of it has been because I’ve been intimated by them. I never know what to use to make repairs since finding vintage fabrics, even scraps of them is nearly nonexistent here. We live in West Texas and unfortunately things such as vintage fabrics, junk, and salvage pieces are all things rarely found around here. Can new fabrics be used to make repairs?
@ReinventedDelaware
@ReinventedDelaware 8 месяцев назад
@@bonniesmith1179 Hi Bonnie! yes, you can use new fabrics to make the repairs but be careful to use the same weight and feel of the original fabric. In other words, don't use a heavy-weight new fabric on a quilt that has thin, worn-out fabric. The heavier fabric will add stress to the older fabric. Most antique quilts are made from 100% cotton so you will want to use cotton fabrics for the repairs.I hope this helps and happy sewing!

Hi Cindy, just finished watching your enjoyable video. Yes, I love old quilts. I have a few but favorite is extra large lap quilt the a Mennonite lady made for me n my son. It’s clothes from my one son that was killed in a auto accident. It’s all his favorite shirts n shorts n his jacket from football with his number 64 on it. I’ll treasure that until the day I die. I would love to make one but my hands cramp up so bad that it gets painful. Looking at yours with the stains that it looked like blood stain as it will turn a brown like. But that could be from the video for that color. If that ever happens again try hydrogen peroxide on the stain. It shouldn’t fade the color. Of course rinse with cold water. My girl, you do have quite a few butter pats. I would like to have maybe two. I think where I live anyone who moves to Florida end up selling all their goodies that I like before moving here😅. I’m gonna try your trick with bleach on a few of my baskets. I like how yours turned out. Yes, start a collection of wisp brooms. They’ll look so good on that wall with the others. On that sweet foot stool. Paint it n reupholster it with your favorite material. If you have any the material left from that one chair (grain sack) . Well, I think I’ve yanked enough. So I’ll close this for now. Oh, hang your egg beater up since you’ll be using it. Love all your clear glass measuring cup. I have the exact one that you just got. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟

What about trying to paint the little foot stool and adding a really nice floral paint inlay from IOD? I can picture one that would match your room PERFECTLY! lemme grab my other device and try to find the name... Love your videos ❤ please keep them coming!

The paint inlay is called Chateau! I've seen people use it on a number of things and it always seems to go on to the surface a little distressed looking, but it's BEAUTIFUL❤❤❤

I’m going to look that paint inlay up! I’ve been wanting to try some of the IOD products and this sounds like the perfect reason to start! Thanks so much for the idea - stay tuned to see what I do!

I've used hydrogen peroxide for stains that look like those, not sure it would work, but worth trying! You are very talented!

That’s a great idea! I will give that a try. Hydrogen peroxide can lighten colors so it just might work!🥰

Or lemon juice with a dry in the sun.

@@jules092265 That's a great idea but I would caution against the sun on an antique quilt. The sun would brighten the stain for sure but wouldn't leave it out there too long 😊

Along with the whisk brooms, how about rug beaters?

Hi! I found the handmade broom at a local outdoor market. Thanks for asking😊Sorry that I can’t share a link to it - the maker doesn’t have an online store. Here is the video showing the market: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rXpq_ReFP8o.htmlsi=2OfCQkhYwmwLbKH-

Hi! About the stains on that old quilt, try Barbasol shaving cream. Wet the stains, gently rub in the shaving cream add a dollop on top of each stain for good measure. Let that set for as long as you’re comfortable. if it doesn’t take them out completely, it might lighten them some. This has been tried and true over the past 29 years.
