Ha! I realized after i uploaded the video that i said "I've never spent more than $1 on a Ventures record".... I spent $2 on that one!!! I think the days of $1 thrift store records are almost over. Up until maybe 2 years ago, records were 59 cents at Goodwill!

I SHOULD take a break too, but... I've been on an incredible lucky streak, can't stop during that, right!? I've got probably close to 200 new arrivals to show!!! I've got probably over three months of episodes shot (shot in just a few weeks time!) It's hard to keep track of all these records and all these videos!!! But i can't stop!!! 🤣😂🤣😂

@@VinylHunter I know.. when I do my Thrift Finds Mondays.. I don't write down what I showed ! My memory is real good, but the amount of records that we pick.. it's a whole lot of records !! LOL !

I have literally the worst memory of probably anyone you know! I have to label each of my hauls...so, i have tons of little piles of records waiting to be dealt with! Luckily i have pretty good organization skills!

Yeah, The Ventures have a LOT of albums! And they sold a LOT of albums!...so they're pretty common at thrift stores and bargain bins....but if you like instrumental surf music you can't go wrong!

I thought the Astronauts seemed high too...I don't go by discogs low, median, and high...i go into the sold items, see what records (same pressing, same condition) are selling for, then i get an average to determine value. Lately (on videos that haven't been uploaded yet) I've been stating the aprox value a little lower than average. You definitely need to "know" a lot to be able to thrift efficiently. Knowing what is very common and has very little value is probably the most time saving skill to have when thrifting. Being able to spot things that you're not familiar with but potentially has value is another important skill. Like you said, it takes lots of experience. Also, driving around to all these stores isn't cost effective. That's why you don't see me thrift locally much...because i don't do it much. These other stores, i happen to be driving by already on my job. You clearly know how it's done...but there's so many that don't. I hear people all the time say they don't thrift for records because there's nothing buy junk...not true...my finds are real...so I'm trying to share some of my knowledge with them.

@@VinylHunter It's tough to make much of an income selling vinyl even if you've been doing it for years, or decades in my case. You do need some luck as well as a good knowledge of values, or current market dynamics. At Discogs the have/want stats are often the most useful guide to current market value. Rule of thumb is if not many people want it, under 50 or so, plus not many have it then it might not be worth so much. A lot of sellers there ask a lot more than the record is worth, although you can get desperate or naive buyers who buy the odd over priced one. Also although you might get the same vinyl listed for $10 and $20 in the same condition, some buyers assume the $20 is much better as it is more expensive. An old Freudian dynamic where price effects perception, a cogntive bias of sorts. The people I see starting up selling vinyls have to start somewhere as the years go by they become able to sift through a few hundred at Goodwill, etc and take out the 1 or 2 that have value, or might have. But I do feel quite sorry for these cell phone characters at times. For me thrifting is not that cost effective, was more so a few years ago. Now there are too many people looking so you can visit 10-20 places in one day, but end up with a few records and find you've made about 30$ for 8 hrs work. Yard sales are more lucrative, or flea markets and record shows with 'desperate' sellers, or folks with little knowledge of values. But I do, like you, still go to the odd one if I'm passing by.

Yeah, i couldn't imagine trying to make a living selling records.

I'm really just thrifting for my own personal collection...but when i see a $20 record priced at $2, i can't pass it up. I admit though, i do buy a lot of records (that i don't want) even though there's not much profit margin on them, because i tend to get caught up in the "i just FOUND this" factor. But it always works out in the end.

It depends on context, it's how I pay the rent, as it were, so I need to have a viable strategy. 20-30 yrs ago I only picked up vinyl for myself, no interest in or much awareness of value pre the Internet, other than it was nice to get keepers for a dollar or even less. $20 for $2 is a good deal, to make a reasonable living you need to be paying about 25% of value most of the time, or 15% for slow movers and 35% for fast movers, roughly speaking

I didn't get any CDs on this trip. I used to have a lot more CDs than i have now...I've owned several thousand... now I've only got a few hundred (mostly thrift store finds)

Dang! I'll have to keep that in mind! I've got some packed away somewhere, and a bunch of those little suitcase type cases, but it's such an impractical way to store them (when you've got hundreds of tapes) so the cases just get piled in my basement...I'll have to look into reselling to help fund the addiction!

A couple years ago my brother and I scored about 30 new records at Goodwill for 59 cents each...i can't remember who was in there because it was artists i was unfamiliar with, but we made a killing at our next record show off of them! ...and, not next week, but the following week's video...Killer Score! Tons of Iron Maiden 2lp picture discs, autographed Maiden 8x10, Maiden xmas cards from a thrift store in Beatrice for $55! About 10 records from a different thrift store in Beatrice where you fill a bag for $1! GnR Lies, GnR picture disc, Loudness, and other metal! ...and probably a couple of these fairly recent videos!

Sometimes. I don't know a thing about comics though, so i usually leave them alone. I do casually collect classic horror comics though, when i find them for cheap.

@@VinylHunter Comics until approx 1962 sold for 10c (on the cover).They went up to 12c and remained at that price until 1969.Pretty much anything is worth picking up (cheaply) if the cover price is 10c or 12c..super-heroes among the best,and cartoon characters among the worst (many exceptions).If the cover price is 10c ,hard to go wrong .

I'm just saying that I've been questioned as to whether i really find this stuff at thrift stores...so here's proof. In my videos I take you on every vinyl hunting Adventure... whether I find stuff or not...to show you the reality of thrifting for records

Never at a thrift store! I'd probably shit if i came across one at a thrift store! I see you can get the first pressing of the first album on discogs for about $50 shipped, which actually sounds quite reasonable considering the going rate for og metal albums!
