I had a second marriage at age 52 I knew I did not want a WHITE "cake topper" wedding dress, but I also did not want a suit or a cocktail dress. I looked EVERYWHERE and was will ing to pay a lot of money for the right dress. NOTHING.... NADA... NOPE... I was in a Goodwill and my son spotted a dress on display. IT was everything I was looking for! It turned out to be my size.. I tried it on and it was perfect. It was tea length (just above my ankles) Ecru lace, empire waist, The only thing I tweeked were the sleeves that were originally floppy and loose. I gathered the fabric into a puffed sleeve and it worked out great. The Tag said $15.00 and I was ore than happy to pay that. However when I got to the checkout the dress had the Color of the Week tag and I got it for 50% off!! LOL I spent a grand total of $7.50 for my dress!! LOL Everyone loved the dress!

I thrifted my wedding dress! It was a new dress, the thrift shop was located across from a bridal shop and they brought the floor models over there. So no one ever wore the dress I bought! It had a long train and so I took it across the street to the original bridal shop and had them hem the train off and tailor it to me. Total cost with tailoring was under $150! The dress was originally almost 2k.

B Villa I'm glad they didn't throw it away like most stores do. I hope wedding dress stores don't throw them out. GameStop throws out $400 game systems and Victoria's Secret throws out clothes.

I thrifted my wedding dress pattern and then had a friend make me the dress. I bought the fabric and total spent was $25 as my friend gifted me the labor to have the dress made. There are definitely thrifty ways to have a custom wedding dress ❤

I think the second dress would have been AMAZING if the shower cap sleeves were either removed completely, or altered into more of like a mini cap sleeve maybe?

The last dress was my favorite. You seem to really like the mesh hi neck dresses, but honestly, if the last one would have fit, I think if you cut the mesh upper part, staying only with the lower neckline, it would haved looked amazing on you! And yes for a wedding dress thrifting series!!!

I thrifted my wedding dress. $15 for a dress originally from the 80s, short and flowy, thick lace that hung well and didn't make me worry about flying away, sleeves to my elbows which covered the area that made me the least comfortable about gaining weight before my wedding. I didn't know what I wanted, but it was so comfortable and easy to wear, and that was everything that I wanted. And I wanted used for environmental and economical reasons, so it ticked all the boxes.

I got married last year and when I went to the dress shop to try on dresses I thought I knew exactly what I wanted but I ended up falling in love with one that wasn’t what I thought would suit me. I also wasn’t bothered about a train or veil but once I’d put the veil on and the train was laid out properly I was speechless. My veil went down my back not over my face and was cathedral length. The photos of my dress and veil laid out look stunning. I’d say try on lots of different styles and veils because you might be surprised what you end up loving!!! Plus you’re only doing this once so you might as well go all out!!

Everyone is different but with a train it adds that bridal touch/look to it. My seamstress chopped my train off last min without telling me and I just really wish I had that train. Also once the ceremony is over, you can bussle the train so it doesn't drag anymore.

I thrifted my wedding dress and it was perfect!!! It was a high necked crocheted bodiced, and chiffon 1960's gown. It fit my vintage style and my size perfectly!!! It was $16.00 at St. Vincent de Paul's Peterborough (now Vinne's), in 1996. No regrets, whatsoever!!!

In AZ there’s a nonprofit bridal boutique that sells used dresses and the money combats local sex trafficking and exploitation. If any of you are looking for a used dress, you should check them out! They have an Etsy shop with beautiful vintage dresses if you don’t live anywhere near Tucson AZ. They’re called Free Ever After!!!!

My sister had a summer wedding. She got her wedding dress at a department store, it was a sundress but it was all white and lacy and she only spent 30 dollars on it. I definitely think that you dont have to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that you're going to wear once. Thrifting dresses is great!

Just so you know, pretty much all dresses with trains get a bustle added to them which is like a pretty little way to pick it up and clip it to the back so you don’t have to worry about it getting dirty, stepping on it, dancing or anything else. So don’t rule out a train because it’s impractical because you can just clip it up and you have a normal length dress! And it looks gorgeous walking down the aisle and for photos

Love this idea! I think you would definitely succeed in vintage shops that specialize in dresses but I love this more challenging approach. Love that last one so much, I wonder what would happen if you take it to be tailored and have the top turned into a Bardot neckline.

I'm not even close to being married so I've never needed to look for one, but I once found a beautiful lace dress in a thrift store and literally just bought it on the spot! it doesn't fit me perfectly but I'm planning on using the top part of it (it's a long sleeve, high neck lace overlay that reaches my waist, so it's fairly easily removable) over my actual dress and then I want to use the lace train as my veil as well 😍

Most trains have a small silk wristlet that you can put on your wrist and it hold the entire train up. I had one on my wedding dress and when you're holding it it makes it look effortless and like your train was never there
@Sokolva
@Sokolva 3 года назад
Just to make sure there aren't misconceptions on the wedding dress train, or the material that drags on the floor and flows behind some wedding dresses: Many wedding dresses have trains. You can get them removed by a tailor. HOWEVER, if you go to a wedding dress tailor or a competent dress tailor, they bustle the train, which means they create a system for the dress that allows the train to be long and ceremonial during the wedding ceremony (the moment when the bride walks towards the groom at the altar and says her vows). The bustle then ties up the train and creates this really pretty bunched or pleated pattern in the back so that the train doesn't drag on the floor anymore or get in the way while you are dancing. Many wedding dresses, my own included, have this feature, so having a train isn't a compromise between having a dirty dress and not being able to dance. Usually during the moment when you are walking to the altar, you would have your entourage or bridesmaids help you maneuver the train over any areas that would get it dirty if there are any. If you are in an indoor venue this isn't usually an issue. Then your bridesmaids bustle the train and put the dress into the party form that allows you to dance! This is also when brides take of their veils, as obviously veils could often get in the way of dancing and are also usually only used for the ceremony.
@spagstuff
@spagstuff 6 лет назад
Even new dresses have to be altered and hemmed. So don't let that throw you when you are picking out a dress.. also you can have a train, they make a button loop, or a bustle that you hook the train to after the wedding, so that the train is tucked up and the hemline is even, so you aren't dragging it around. It's super easy to deal with, and most dresses (especially second hand) will already have the pick-up built in, you just have to find it.. Good luck with the dress shopping. ;)

I love the idea of a thrifted wedding dress. The last dress was my favorite but with the sleeves from a fashion perspective you have two sleeves going on and it doesn't look great. Tasha if you were to go with the bell sleeve(witch would be totally you) I would remove the cuff sleeve so that the bell would be free and flowy or if you went with a tight aline sleeve I would remove the bell because the double sleeve right now isn't working . I would also take the neck line down to under the caller bone. That's what I would do if I was styling a custom wedding dress for you out of that one

With some sewing or the help of a seamstress some of those would be stunning. You want it tailored to fit your body perfectly. With a train you walk the Isle with that and for the reception you have it bustled, a seamstress can do that and it looks amazing. Mine was bustled.

I work at a wedding dress shop and what most people dont realize is that almost every single wedding gown has to be altered to fit the bride properly, even when you are buying your size. If you are buying a thrifted dress you'd probably just have to do more alterations, like not only hemming the dress to the correct length but also removing the sleeves you dont like and replacing them with ones that you do!

One way you can "thrift" a wedding dress is to find a dress you like and look for the same or similar dresses in sample sales or on second hand dress sites and ebay. It might not be super cheap but it will be less expensive than boutique prices.

Hi! LOVE your channel and content. and YOU! I am a frequent, seasoned thrifter... 11 years now! That is more than half of my life! I have thrifted my wedding dresses already! I'm not engaged and am not getting married anytime soon. (I sound crazy, I know) But I've often purchased formal dresses from thrift stores, without having an event to attend. I've always ended up wearing the dress(es)! So I've come across two wedding dresses within the past two years that I couldn't pass up and I KNOW there will be a lucky person to marry me in them ;) I just wanted to share that there's hope in your mission to thrift a dress to marry in! Excited to see your outcome! :)
