Would really appreciate the FPS counter or frametime graph in the video for each headset. It would be really interesting to see performance differences as I guess wireless vs dedicated DP input is much different performance wise, plus various resolutions of each headset. Being able to look around without having to move your head for focus is probably the greatest feature of pico 4s pancake lenses. Game changer in my opinion, always felt trapped in other head sets because of this.

also not having to find that tiny sweet spot. i tried getting my friends into VR but they're always thrown off by how "blurry" the image is, because it takes experience to know how to adjust the headset properly and to make it stay that way.

@@freemanol CV1/2 seem ok until Quest where it was more front heavy. The headset would move on people and that cause a lot IDP and people out of focus from the center problems. Hopefully with a better headstrap + less weight in the front it helps solves some of those problems going forward.

I am doubting between the pico 4 and the valve index. What I understand now for me is that the pico 4 has a bit better quality but, the valve index 2 is coming so idk there is no release date yet and I really want to know when the new headset comes out. Cause I want a vr headset very soon. So it’s really hard to decide if I should wait or buy the pico 4 and save up for the index 2. 🧐

I only wish there was a PICO 4 with options to be stand-alone or thethered with either USB-C and/or DP connection for us PCVR flight simmers. That would be a winning combination. Perhaps that would feature in a PICO 4 PRO version.

Just got my PICO 4 today and i can say it is better than the G2 because the G2 has a very very small sweet spot. I sold my G2 2 days after i got it couple of years back. G2 is clear in the center but the rest is a blurry mess. PICO is so clear from edge to egde and so so light on the head. Im sure pico will fix most of the Pc streaming issues in the next couple of months. Very happy with my purchase.

The Pico 4 looks pretty good in comparison to the HP and Index. I do notice in the HP with Assetto Corsa screens, I can see the blurriness of the lenses away from the sweet spot. I dont see that in the Pico 4, entire screen shots in Pico 4 are clearer. Not worried about the Index comparison, because I don't have that headset and don't plan to. I do currently have the HP Reverb G2 V2 and do notice a narrow sweet spot in the lenses. It is great you are comparing it to the Pico 4. Thanks for the video.

Reverb G2 has a very tiny sweet spot. Pico is indeed much sharper overall, but for pcvr it's sub par for me. I returned it for a refund. I like these reviews but overall I think he's a glass half full guy. It's alway's on the positive note. Every time I fall for it, but never really had a wow moment when trying a new goggle. To bad, because I really would like to experience that.

@@Nick-tz1ju I know what you are saying Nick. We really don't know the full truth about newer VR headsets from reviewers until we try them for ourselves. I got fooled on the HP clarity and as you say has a tiny sweet spot. I then went back to my Rift S (which can't be bought anymore) and has a larger sweet spot on the lenses. So far the Rift S has been my go to VR headset. Though it does not have the resolutions the newer VR has. Take care.

Thinking of upgrading my headset from rift s to Reverb G2 V2, really skeptical on how noticable the improvements will be! Things have improved after my Index but I am still gonna wait some generations more. I want both 120 Hz, much better clarity over the FOV and no cable to computer. Slimmer headset with battery pack attached to waist. Since I am also getting older I would like to see better options for individually adjustment of eyes and lenses.

Reverb G2 destroys everything as usual, and as expected. I say this as an owner of a Pico 4 which I got today and been playing all day, an ex-owner of a Reverb G2, and my friend owns an Index that I've played many many many times. The HP Reverb G2 is an unprecidented level of clarity and visuals, and it has to be experienced to be believed. It's simply mind blowing. Saying that, I returned my Reverb G2 within the first month because I bought it at release and it was full of bugs, which have been resolved now. If I just wanted a simracing or flying headset, that is without a doubt, THE HEADSET. Now that HP have apparently fixed the bugs with tracking, USB, power delivery, cable, its what I want. I genuinely miss the Reverb G2, for the month that I had it, it was simply out of this world. Right now I'm playing with my Pico 4, deciding if I want to keep it, playing with recording and different settings. Its an amazing headset and the pancake lenses are a major step up from the Quest 2, but still not there with the Reverb G2. Saying that, its wireless, which is a big deal for me. It's a long way there, and I can't wait for my Quest Pro to arrive next week to compare it to.

I bought the g2 on release they fixed bugs with tracking after 6 months and gave me a free extra/ better cable that fixed everything. I love the clarity and use foveated rendering mod on all my games so I don’t even notice the edge to edge clarity as I don’t use it and get great performance boost

@@bobdole3251 Man I miss my Reverb G2, I always said I was going to rebuy one when they fixed the issues, and apparently they did as far as I read. Its a phenominal headset that blew my frickin mind when I used it. I would say from my short experience with the Pico 4, that its getting close to that clarity and contrast. But saying that, just like shown in the videos here the compression cannot be avoided and it doesn't get there, but its a BIG step up from the Quest 2. The Reverb G2 and its uncompressed 4K DisplayPort just blows everything else out of the water, without question. The DCS and ED tests in this video confirmed what I thought I'd see, but I was still glad to see the comparison, great video.

@@MVIVN Dude, its not worth worrying about. Whatever PC you have will be at its limits just trying to push enough pixels for the Reverb G2 at 90hz, TRUST ME. I ran mine with a 1080Ti and later upgraded my GPU to a RTX3090 and its still just about gets everything running smoothly. There is no need to worry about a Reverb G3, its not coming. If you want to be future-proofed, get the Reverb G2 OMNICEPT with Eye-Tracking that you can't use for anything yet, because there is nothing to use it. Then you'll be set until the RTX8090 comes out in a decade. Trust me, its hard enough just to push a Reverb G2, we're at the limit here.

Im getting Pico but the only concern i have The colors are washed up but you can clearly see more in the darker areas where with reverb its just pitch black. Not a big fun of the blue colour filter but i could get used to it. Theres also this visible pixels anomaly, dont know how it is when you actually wear the headset, but in this video its clearly visible. 3:02. You can see those lines of pixels around the formula Pros The text is definitely sharper and less blurry Gotta try with raytracing might be mints.

For me, the pancake lenses AND wireless PCVR put it above other VR headsets. With regards to the screen, as I understand it, OLED doesn't play nice with pancake lenses because they're not bright enough.

Looks a little bit like Pico 4 DCS Picture was not 100% Sharp taken. Compared to the other Pictures it should look Sharper there. But ye ive seen alot Reviews and many of them say the thing that the Pico 4 has much higher Edge to edge Clarity and it makes a lot difference because you dont have to move your head so much anymore to read something that is not in the middle of the Screen.

Great video, I have a Reverb G2 and a Quest Pro on the way so seeing its comparions with another USB-C display port headset is interesting. The G2 central clarity really is great but the edge to edge clarity is really poor in these images so I'm hopefull the Quest Pro's overall visuals will be at least on par with the G2 as a wide sweet spot is much more desirable. From the images it looks like the G2 has much better blacks and colour contrast too, is that what you see in the headset? Hope you do a Quest Pro comparison with the Pico 4 and Reverb G2 next.

I've had six VR headsets now and although I still enjoy it, mainly for Microsoft Flight Simulator with a flight cockpit I'm a bit bored by it just being game focused. Imagine if all you could do on a phone , tablet, internet or computer was play games. It really limits the potential. I want to see what else VR, MR and AR can do.

Little anecdotes like 13:18 are what stopped me from getting the Reverb G2 all this time, and you hear it constantly. Definitely looks great, but if it's got little bugs and tracking issues every other day then it's a no-go.

I have a G2 and it seems to have issues when you try to push the res of the headset in steam vr beyond 60% res. I have a RTX 3080 and 3900X so it's not a hardware problem. The wmr software is just riddled with instability. When I update the software, it will break at least one of my VR games. It made elite dangerous crash and caused serious hitching. Then there is the problem of trying to use knuckle controllers with the G2. The calibration software I use often gets out of wack if I forget to put the head set in the exact same spot when I start it up. Although the G2's picture quality is unmatched, the driver bugs and setup annoyances may drive one nuts. The easy of setup and use is to me more important than if the screen looks slightly better.

@@daru6366 WMR takes about a 12-15% performance hit. I ran tests between OpenXR and SteamVR at the same render resolutions and that was my measured performance hit. Personlly I've not had any major issues with tracking on mine, but the controllers are laughably bad.

Hi Tyriel! Just curious, when switching from headset to headset, do you manually change any of the resolutions in Steam? Or are you just using what shows up in the games by default? Just curious if they are all rendering at the same resolution, regardless of the headset resolution.

during the video he says that he always uses native steam resolution, this means that the in-game resolution is 1:1 to the headsets pixel ratio. so expect, lower res headsets will be at a slight in-game disadvantage when it comes to long distance clarity but I don't think it will have any perceivable difference in-person.

@@KrysRevamps Well that's really what I'm trying to find out. I just believe these test would be more accurate, if they were tested maybe both ways. If I was using an Index at this point, I would be hiiiighly over scaling it with the PC I'm using, considering how low the native resolution is. I just think this could be a lil more accurate through the lens, if all were at the exact same resolution. Not to mention, if the scaling isn't a direct fraction of the native, a lot of times there can be some shimmer on certain lines. To be clear, I'm not knocking his tests by any means.. just curious of the details.

@@MrMattMagoo I think going with native is the fairest method without involving too much of a headache with calculating performance impact, as screen size is something highly variable , especially when it comes to FOV, aspect ratio and pixel density all being different depending on what the headset manufacturer has decided to use. running above resolution is not the intended purpose of these "through the lenses" tests, as that will be a test of your machine, which is going to be different for every person. The assumption is that your computer is able to run the headset at native resolution and chosen refresh rate.

Do you run them at 2160 x 2160 instead of 100% resolution? I found out a bit ago that while 100% resolution is higher than 2160 x 2160, it's that way because of the way the lenses distort the image displayed, thus having to super sample a bit to make up for that distortion. That is why when running my reverb g2 at 2160x2160, it says the resolution is set to 50%.

I feel like people aren't aware how important an actual display connector is. Without it you will get lossy compression which looks absolutely terrible in natural environments. I habe upgraded from a quest to a reverb g2 and one of the biggest differences was the proper video connector. Things stopped looking like garbage and started to look great

This is by far the best test in the internet between Pico4 and G2. And for me, forget about having a great resolution but in a small center point like the G2. Pico4 wins for me. I play PCVR only, and had the luck to have both the Pico 4 and G2 with me the last couple of days. I really wanted to keep the Pico 4, tried absolutely everything, from modifying config files from the streaming assistant, to doing the thetering USB trick and use Virtual Desktop in God Mode, it just doesn't look right to me, I rather have the occasional hiccups with the G2's tracking and not being able to look around with my eyes too much inside the headset than the compressed image and miliseconds delay via streaming with the Pico 4 or similar headsets.

i am curious about how it works to connect pico 4 to a pc. like does it work to connect the usb c cable to a usb 3 with a adaptor? or is it onl usb c all the way. how does the wii fii function work? which versions of wii fii is compatibel. i believe others also have such questions, i could be wrong. but would be interesting to see what works.

Wich pc hardware do you have? I can't see such detail on mine. I had G2 and I must say not sweet spot like Pico but more definition, even if I put my Pico 4 with usb c. On Pico the color is darker. I play Assetto Corsa too, on pico 4 fov is bigger, but not resolution against G2.

I am impressed by Pico 4 but I'd wait for next reiteration with similar edge-to-edge clarity pancake lenses coupled with screens that give true blacks (i want dark space to really look like endless empty space not a perceivable skybox)

The issue is you’ll find yourself constantly waiting for every new generation this way, better off buying the pico and selling before next gen and yeah you’ll loose €150 maybe but for a whole year of gaming for €150 is amazing 😊

7:24 by the looks of it I am pretty sure something wasn't configured properly here on the DCS comparison. I mean on the other games Pico 4 looks in my opinion the best or the most balanced but here it's a totally different story. From my point of view it seems that there's a subsampling going on here (most possibly from SteamVR resolution). I am also mentioning this because I know for a fact that I have some subsampling problems on specific games when I launch them and I always have to reset manually the resolution from the steam vr settings. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or please check this to make sure what the resolution is set to in the video options of SteamVR specifically when launching that game with the Pico. Thanks.

I think if pico 4's colour saturation and contrast were turned down slightly it would WIN hands down , whilst its extremley clear in resolution etc the colours are off. The reverb g2's colours and contrast look spot on , combine the 2 and it would be an even better headset.

On other hand, the contrast on g2 hides all details in dark areas. plus the text is blurry. This trade off is okey in my opinion. But will definitely have to adjust the contrast on Pico. Especially for raytracing to not to burn your eyes

Coming from a cv1 to the Index, it's night and day difference. By the looks of it, Pico 4 is even better than the Index. Certainly looks more comfortable, that's for sure.
