This is a simple disc golf drill that got me to throw over 400ft consistently. It teaches you how to actually brace in order to throw far in disc golf.
The key is to stop the movement in your lower body in order for it to be transferred into your upper body.

This one caught my attention. No long intros, no annoying music, not trying to do as advanced video as you can and not trying to exceed 30 minutes. Just plain and simple understandable information. Thank you. I Will do this drill.

Much appreciated and my thoughts exactly! It's by far the most common issue I see people having and I had the problem myself. It's the difference between doing the xstep and knowing WHY you're doing it.

God damn...you're right. Wow i can't believe i never thought about this in terms of the baseball throw. Bro that's eye opening for me. Big time. I know about the brace, but comparing it to the baseball throw really really really makes me understand the importance. Yeah....thank you.

Great drill,simple and "doable" ,tested and a it revealed a big flaw in my form ,just as you show it, i have been throwing with too straight legs(feels comfy),but if you allow yourself to "collapse",bring in the knee on the backleg in the last movement,it will be closer to a real drive and will maybe create get a a better habit long term,just a thought?Great video like it!
@DiscGolfWizard

Awesome, glad it was useful! This is definitely the "level one" bracing drill. There are a lot of elements to add to make it more realistic to actually x-stepping and bracing. I just wanted something to help people get that basic part of actually stopping their lower body momentum. I'll definitely be coming out with more advanced versions in the future.

Awesome thanks. I never thought of it like this and while my foot plants and stops I do follow through with my body after my through . So I'll focus on this and hopefully be on my way to 400 ft or more finally.
@DiscGolfWizard
@DiscGolfWizard Месяц назад
Thanks for watching and I hope it helps! One thing I forgot to mention was that it is important to let your body follow through after the throw. You're just pausing long enough to get energy transferred into your upper body. Here's a great example of it from Drew Gibson: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f8edQ4NxpjI.html

Very helpful video and explanation of the power transfer, got a new sub here :) Gonna practice this from now on. I'm still struggling with the backhand after playing for 5-6 months, can throw about 260ft pretty consistently but it stops there. A lot of skill, technique and coordination required for the backhand!

@ts4gv

the actual way in which power is transferred from forward motion into the throw is from the plant foot exerting a force into the right hip & pushing it inward, thus starting the upper body rotation so i'd imagine a more effective drill incorporates that feeling? of planting the front foot at the correct angle and letting the resulting force push in your hip. (saying all this because that feeling doesn't come naturally to me at all lol)
@Aleksi09
@Aleksi09 7 дней назад
i dont know why but i have the problem that after i do the xstep my hips and my upper body turn but my hips wont stop so i could turn only my upper body.

X stepping in slow mo helps the brain catch up to the arms n legs. It’s harder than you think to maintain balance moving slow.

I think I understand this concept? I am 61 years old and started disc golf in June of 2022, and could only throw about 175 or so and with a lot of field work and making very slight changes ( including changing my grip to the power grip ) I can throw up to around 250 feet when everything is clicking. ( timing / proper balance etc ) if i can get to 300 feet consistently over the next year or so, I would be absolutely ecstatic.

If the backhand is the same thing as throwing a baseball then why does everyone freak out when you don’t close your front foot?
@DiscGolfWizard
@DiscGolfWizard Месяц назад
It's not exactly the same, just the same principle of stopping the lower body in order for energy to transfer into the upper body. A baseball throw you're throwing forward, in disc golf you're throwing a backhand with your side facing the target. It's almost impossible to get enough rotation from your lower body and hips if your foot is open.
@leopard3131
@leopard3131 20 дней назад
The backhand throw is closer to swinging a baseball bat (lefty for right handed) or a backhand in tennis. These movements use a brace as well. I use an overhead baseball or football throw when teaching overhead shots (thumber or tomahawk).

When I brace good I get the high 350-400', but I rarely get my timing and snap correct when I think about stuff so if a drill can make me to thing x i can use my attention to another thing instead. Slow steady far enough. This isn't the way to 500' NOW but the way to get consistent to about 400' which a person not training (strenght and speed) at all can achieve without injuries and the unnecessery fatigue of arming everything max.
