These companies need to start making red dots without all the shit markings and logos on s side. Just make them blacked out or laser in the logo discretely.
I've had their older viper and venom dots over the years, I was pretty disappointed in the viper but love their warranty. Had the glass fall out in a venom, it basically gave into the Vegas heat. The exchange was quick and easy. I've had the first gen Defender CCW for about a year and it's been great, yes they have a new version that addressed the criticisms of the auto shut off and the flickering, but I've had no issues and still running the same battery for over a year. I've had it on two micro pistols and I love the site picture over the holosun.
Agree 100% Jeff. All of our Vortex optics have been perfect with the exception of one pair of binos. My son dropped then out of his treestand and they broke after hitting the root. Had a brand new pair within a week after sending them in. Things break, but how a company handles it matters to me.
Amen, trijicon RMR is my go to. It’s as good as it needs to be. If I wanted the best of the best I’d go RCR. But hey, my shit is great and why complicate it all. It works perfectly

This product is exceptional. Exchanged a fairly expensive SRO, & put a Defender XL on my VP9 OR Long Slide. Not on all, but for a VP9L Vortex beats Trijicon. Brighter, less glare, larger view, & the best part- With an astigmatism this is literally the first 🔴my eyes can see with perfect clarity.
I bought the CCW version of this, i abused the hell out of it. Put probably like 1k to 1.5k rounds and it worked just as new, racked it on table/metal/rock and it still worked good. After a year it stopped working out the blue, i called voxtex and within 2 weeks i got a new in a unopened box, put it right back on my XL and im back to rocking. I actually am impressed.
I just picked up one of these to put on my S&W 2206 TGT which will be used for SCSA and Rimfire Challenge. They had a sale going at one of my gun stores. Out the door for $277 including sales tax. So far I really like it!
Will also be glad when all dot manufacturers will start releasing all new dots with option for green or red from the start. For my eyes green is the way and is even in my latest eotech and love it. So much sharper easier to see specially when target focused. 507k and exps with green and wont go back to red IMO. My 👀 are old plus Contacts with apparrently a huge astigmatism lol.
Wish they included accessories with scopes like the Razor 1-6 where all they include is the CR2032 and a lens cloth. Vortex engages in the same ‘not including stuff’ bullshit when they can get away with it. The throw lever is an extra $60 which is stupid for a $1K+ LPVO
Vortex really needs to work on their refresh rate on all their red dots (and holographics), pistol or rifle. That's my main complaint with ALL Vortex optics.
They did in the Vortex Defender ST it has an upgraded emitter with a great refresh rate. Also, when they released the defender ST they upgraded the defender CCW emitter and shake awake timer. If you have the older version of the Defender CCW you can message vortex and they'll send you the upgraded version of the ccw. The ST has a fantastic refresh rate no dot trailing at all.
Idk about the ST but the CCW was very lack-luster. It has weird glares on the glass from the emitter when indoors and their response was that’s normal for all red dots. My several Acro or RMR’s have never done that so that was disappointing. It is a cheap red dot so you can’t ask for a ton but I was not crazy about it and would not purchase one unless improvements are made.
Great info and review as always and just wanted to thank ya for an older vid u did on tall optic mounts and introduced me to larue tactical Risr and ive got one now on my main 556 with eotech and unity ftc setup and love it ! Will be the goto riser for aby scopes and optic mounts in future. Keep up great content !
I had the old version it was absolute trash. Stopped working after 100 rounds! The spark AR had that too it was broken out of the box. Say no to vortex spend the money on Trijicon or Holosun.
Not a big fan of dropping one unit and stating it’s a standard of measurement. I have dropped many of dots out the safe off the kitchen counter. Never on the range.
@@thewhitematstudio no dpp are trash. Shit durability, poor battery life. Dumbest brightest adjustments on any red dot. They are so tall they specific iron sights if you want to co-witness. The list goes on.
Nice that Vortex finally has a pistol red dot with shake awake. But the battery life is very misleading and Vortex still has one of the worst true usable brightness battery life’s on the market. This has been their red dots Achilles heel and why I will never buy s Vortex red dot until that is fixed.

Yes co-witness is important if your gun is used as a ccw or home defense weapon, sure you can point shoot up close but for me I need to be able to see my irons.
@@peterdarlington4117 you are not “seeing” your irons if you are running a red dot. They are in your line of sight but they are not a focal point. Unless you have a contrasting color front sight.

@@peterdarlington4117 and I don’t understand why you would be need co-witness irons for ccw or home defense. It’s not like you are in some kind of rolling Gun fight, there is zero data that says irons are a must.
I have two Defenders ST's one on my Glock 47 and the other on my G19.5 both 3 Moa. Love them so far. I have approximately 2500 rounds through the G47 and 1200 through the G19 with the dots. Only complaint is that I bump the brightness settings holstering appendix carry in and out. Not a biggie just got to check settings while you shoot. Great dots they replaced my Trijicon SRO and Holosun 507 Comp.
Great video pretty much perfect layout I've got mine been shooting for a while seems to be okay the only thing I disagree with is the battery thing I love having top loads easy to work on I don't have to take the time to go back out and just put one in I know my guns good
@@matts2260 i have a couple of the Romeo x and the compact, they are a great option for any sig pistol. With the vortex defender, being a DPP foot print its a direct mount for sig pistols.

I’ve tried a lot of red dots, and I agree the DDP sucks compared to Holosun and Trijicon. As for this Vortex red dot, it’s probably better than the DDP, too. Better than Holosun or Trijicon? Doubt it based on other reviews, but might be good enough for those that want to try a red dot on the cheap.
You can probably black out that logo with some Birchwood blue. There are many videos on how to do that online; mainly on Holosun, but etched aluminum is all the same and result should be the same.
Lmao DPP is $200 second hand and $300 new. Button placement is trash, battery life is terrible, and durability is bad since it can't even survive a drop test from sage dynamic. Yea throw it in the trash. 💯
Vortex has a lot of catching up to do to earn my trust. Lots of their optics for the past few years have been trash. I’ve owned 3 and they all collect dust. Poor built, low refresh rate, poor brightness and most importantly really bad reliability/toughness. I would like to see these things beat to shit and then I might consider one
Vortex optics suck period. Companies, like trijicon, actually make good products (except the mro lol). They ALSO stand behind their products, but you aren’t getting a piece of chinese junk. Vortex IS NOT the only company with a “good warranty”. They just market their warranty so much, it’s the selling point.
