It’s now 2020. I did not originally post these videos, nor did I ever manage the account. I’ve never personally viewed my reception on here, only been told by word of mouth. I’ve finally been convinced by those close to me in the boxing game to give this a shot. New, as well as unseen, content will be posted in the coming weeks. Thanks for all your support.
@@treroney4720 Why? I don't see anything wrong with it. Technically sound The fight stance would be slighty modified for Kickboxing or Muay Thai. Right hip slightly more forward.
@@jav.angel1205 I wouldn't say it's bad. Just not the best. Reason being is because your heavy your front leg and are suspectable to leg kicks. Jack slack has a video explaining it way better than I can
Tre' Roney I was thinking it was good, and was wondering if that applies also to kb. Can you share which video you were referring? Looked in Jack slate but wasn’t able to find it. I do muay and would appreciate the help in combining both techniques by seeing what you meant. Thanks!
Did some kickboxing, these are fundamentals, basic stuff that fighter's tend to ignore,or forget. This instructor has earned my respect, I love the way he teaches. Excellent
he teaches out at Erik Paulson's in Cali. Erik is a legend. If you wanna learn catch wrestling, jujitsu integrated into wrestling, mma, kickboxing, or fuckin jeet June do, it's the place to go. the last real catch teacher around. trained Josh barnett.
Man, this man can make it simple but he hits the REAL points. He teaches! Fight Hungry, Never wait for a receipt...luck is not good...create, don’t wait...This guy gets it! I wish I knew where his gym was! I could use the coaching!
That instructors calves are crazy!!! You know for sure his legs never give out during a fight. I’ve always believed that it’s the people with strong legs you should fear the most rather the people with a strong upper body.
This guy seems like a great coach, I did boxing training for about a year quite a while ago and and I felt they didn't really 'teach' you, more just let you get on with it and give a little pointer every now and then, this guy is giving a lesson (y)
Yeah I just stumbled across his videos. It's funny because I was outside working out yesterday at a family member's house and a boxing coach saw me working out. He told me to come his gym to learn how to box. So I'm trying to do some research before I go there.
@@bootsmanaa I never made it because I developed bicep tendonitis in my left upper arm😫🤦🏽♂️.. I'm hoping I will be good to go by mid or the end of September. however, I still do plan on doing it so check back later..
We were taught something very similar. Grandmaster Carl Beaman told us that our hands are like rubber bands. Snapped out and right back in position. 100 jabs, crosses, straights (a lot of ppl only teach the cross and not the straight right or left hand lead) hooks, and uppercuts with 5lbs. weight and resistance tubes. Needless to say when we were hitting jokers we was putting them to sleep! 🤣 R.I.P Coach thank you for all the knowledge and wisdom.
You don't need to be an instructor/trainer to recognize that Marvin Cook is always thinking ahead; he makes his points understandable for all; and he applies a standard of excellence to his teaching . . . What more could you ask for? You go guy!!!
It is one thing to be a good fighter/boxer but it’s another thing altogether to be able to teach. Marvin is able to speak in a way that I can access...what a great teacher/coach
As a tall fighter, I remember having a problem overstretching with punches without adjusting my feet when I saw an opening. But the coach here is right, everything should be thrown from you being in boxing stance and it's your feet that should close the distance between you and the opponent - you shouldn't be reaching with your punches to close the distance. Don't come off balance. I've been boxing 5 years now but the fundamentals are always worth revisiting.
Discovered this on my own after spending hour's on the heavy bag. It's when you're totally fatigued and all your working on is technique that you discover this little things.
I'm a wrestler and judoka and is self teaching boxing because I can't afford to pay gym at the moment but the way this man teaches about angles and form is amazing. Such great fundamentals applicable to other fighting arts as well. Respect!
I know a lot of these videos are from years ago but I just found them. I’ve had a lot of training in different disciplines including kickboxing, karate, some bjj, and a few others but my actual boxing has always been a bit lacking. Now after finding you I finally realize why, you are an amazing teacher and I just wanted to say thank you.
To Marvin Cook: This is one of the very best teachings about the jab. I really appreciate that you emphasize that the movement of the hip is essential and the punch must come home quickly.Thank you!!!!!
Came by this video after reading advice and tips from amateurs and professionals on jabs, stance, and its art and so I had to comment to say that this demonstration was very helpful. I now corrected my stance and now learning to pivot my lead leg and thrust a jab with quick reflex. I still have trouble telling myself not to reach my jab further but I am slowly adjusting that. Thanks for sharing!!
Noor Kashif Is CSW the actual name of the gym or does CSW stand for something else? Seems the guy was trying to locate the gym with a bit more accuracy, but only knowing CSW he’s probably not better informed than when he first asked. 🤦🏽♂️😳😂
@@everettwhite9874 well anybody with functional brain cells would google csw gym and it'll come right up, not everyone needs to be a condescending prick like you
Great video. I love how you show quick and smooth execution. It really shows how implementing such movement will greatly improve anyone in their boxing development
You gotta think of that jab as a piston. It's home and then out then back. Same starting position is the ending position. What I see alot of these guys doing is dropping the hand slightly and then shooting it forward. The most efficient line is straight.
Thank you for this video! My jabs have seemed a lot slower lately, but now I know why. I was barely using my hips and I didn't bring in the jab hand like I was bringing the apple home. Great tutorial!
The Perfect instructor. Awesome articulation while explaining techniques. Would love to receive training from you sir. Best boxing coach I have come across so far. The true boxer's stance would help throw other strikes as well including back fists, palm strikes, elbows, batman style knee strikes, kicks, head butt and what not. Even good for wrestling, aikido, judo and grappling. Please upload more videos.
I've seen many videos and none of them mention the idea of bringing it all back home. But it's super important. I'll watch more of your videos. But I'm planning on joining a self defense or boxing class soon.
I'm 8 years or more late to your channel but this is all good info honestly. I've dabbled in boxing here and there and I appreciate you giving out good info and tips like this for free most people nowadays charge ridiculous prices for information like this.
Good tutorial, I've told people this for years. I've said that the most inportant part of launching a strike, is the recoil back to the launchpad. Plus, when you bring your arms back to where you began motion, it's easier to do the other motions.
That part about "you teach yourself", my God, that's gold, I teach artistic gimanstic and I always tell the same to my little ones, that's some rare teaching skills in my opinion
Interesting point. In karate I was taught the exact same. Always bring your punches back as fast as you throw them, or you will be grabbed. Also, I learned to hit faster and harder by punching from the hip.
This was excellent teaching right here, and it looks simple, but harder than it looks, cause i was uncoordinated as hell. It seems like a lot, but some guys are just natural with it. It takes coordination and rhythm to punch and move your feet, head, balance, bring it back, but I have to practice i have all girls, boxing really is a sweet mind science, I practice slowly til it becomes natural, great teaching,
Now I understand why the boxer in my jujitsu class was so good at not being hit even with his short stature and short reach. His footing was more intelligent than mine was when we were on our feet. Very cool lesson. I liked how he explained keeping your head back. I make that mistake.
Holy fuck I wish I would thumbs up this a million times. Excuse me mr instructor could you tell this to half the UFC roster. Leaving their hands out there pushing their punches and using no hips. I've been striking 25 years and no one ever fucking listens to this exact exact advice. Snap that hand back twice as fast as it goes out. These students are lucky this guy cares. And if I see one more UFC fighter throw looping jabs or punches with their arms only I'm gonna flip. Thank you buddy very solid advice.
I need to get active again just uploaded a video to see what i need to work on but since ive been out for months (fatherhood, etc) i look real sloppy and lazy gained weight ofc but you know how to explain and break down really good your videos are helpfull and understanding
Great job!! Ure fundamental s. Are great!! Sometimes. Its great to show! A. Spar partner be. Great !! But. To tell you the. Truth!!!? It s wen dey gatta figure it out that. Makes it. 🔥💪
