Danny White noticed as they broke the huddle that there were only 10 Dallas Cowboys on the field but he did not call time out. Good thing he didn't. Tony Dorsett recognized that the Full Back was not in the game and he took his position and the hand off and the rest is history. I do remember the Cowboys losing the game however.

Dorsett never danced around when he got in the open field, he would only make moves while going full speed up field. I remember hearing criticism that he danced around too much, but I assume they meant in the backfield looking for a hole. Once he broke through that line he never danced or slowed down or hesitated.

I wonder if Tony ended up getting that football back in his hands and it’s in his trophy case at his home.

Dorsett was my favorite player as a kid. What a great rb. This was the MNF broadcast with Howard Cosell. Classic.

No running back in history was as fast off the line of scrimmage as Tony Dorsett. They guy was at full speed as soon as he crossed the line of scrimmage.

It was a crucial block, and well executed. He could have been tempted to tackle the Viking, but did everything legal. You will see him do similar things downfield in some of TD's other long runs to glory. Here's the proof: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4nhyc1AB2N0.html

I watched that game on ABC, Monday Night Football. I was 13. I stayed home that day because I had the flu. My father put out my thick blanket and pillow on the living room floor, so I could watch my Cowboys and my favorite player, Tony Dorsett, play. We did, however, ended up losing that game. 🙄

The one thing I remember about this game is that my mom made me go to bed right before this happened. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even know if they were going to have the game there because the Metrodome got a tear in the roof while trying to remove snow from it.

That’s foolishness talking. You don’t do what Emmitt did without being great. Now my opinion is Emmitt is the greatest ever until someone beats that record. It takes a lot of ability to run the ball that many times setting records never giving up. It takes a lot to stick with a goal you set and achieve it. The whole Barry Sanders was better is bs too because it takes a mentality strong person who won 3 Super Bowls to take that pounding year after year. You can’t take nothing from Emmitt. Durability, longevity, and consistency is as important as talent and Emmitt had that over all of them. I’ll take Emmitt first always.

@@jjones317 First of all Dorsett didn’t have a line like Emmitt plus look how long Emmitt played and Barry was way better than Emmitt without a line.

Emmit played a season's worth of 17 playoff games, with 395 touches, 1928 total scrimmage yds and 19 TDs. Stats that don't count in the records.

Finally an honest assessment of this iconic play. Dorsett is a legend but Willie Teal should get some credit for the touchdown as well.
@Rayburn58
@Rayburn58 6 месяцев назад
You are chicken shit to make excuses and try t o discredit this run. This play happened because Dorsett was lightning off the line of scrimmage. He deserves all the credit for this historic run. There were no missed tackles, you must be hallucinating. Not one defender had any good chance to tackle him, very little contact was made by any defender. Look again, you must be blind.

Wonder what would have happened if Scott Studwell was playing middle linebacker instead of #52? Maybe it plays out the same, maybe Studwell stuffs it for a short gain. Nice cross block though, perhaps he gets trapped just the same.
