THROWBACK THURSDAY: BIGBANG - LIES(거짓말) M/V REACTION! A Classic! 

A big misconception is that Big Bang was a big hit at debut. They were more hip-hop and rnb which was kind of whatever to South Koreans. Although I liked their music...and they got me back into Kpop after a hiatus for a few years after sechskie disbanded. Songs like "We belong together" and "A fool's only tear" appealed more to my American rnb taste than people of their country. "Lies" and "Haru Haru" had a more pop sound. Same thing with BTS...when they came out they had a more hip hop vibe but it was when the branched out to a more pop sound that they blew up. Big Bang may be considered legends and Kings of Kpop now but their beginning was just as humble as any other group.

BigBang is amazing. I'd appreciate it if you reacted to BigBang A Fool Of Tears Live from their Love and Hope tour. The vocals are amazing in their live performances and some back story on BIGBANG is that they actually weren't famous from the very beginning since their label, YG wasn't that well known until BIGBANG's rise to fame and didn't have much money(That's why most of their older MVs are low quality). They really made YG into what it is today, one of the top three entertainment companies in Korea. They were even called ugly by netizens and only took to fame during this era two years after their debut with Haru Haru and Lies. GD even said once that when they used to live together in a dorm they had to scramble money together to even eat.

I think it is also important to add that (if I remember correctly) GD wrote Lies when he was sixteen. YG was hard on BB before they debuted, and when I say hard, I mean GD and Taeyang had to write one song a day in between dance, vocal and language training. And this fact alone is the reason why I am a big VIP. First and second gen OGs really worked their asses off to get where they are, something I feel that is sorely lacking with the current gen.

Yeah BIGBANG EXPLODED with Lies, they weren’t as big their first year. Back then YG was a relatively small company, not what it is today. BB debuted in 06 and struggled a bit their first year ppl also criticized their looks and thought they didn’t have the “idol” look. It was until their release of Lies in 07 that they really hit it off, after that it was hit after hit. Then people stopped caring about looks and cared about their good music. Another reason it wasn’t right of the bat success was because they concentrated on Hip Hop and R&B and at the time they were one of the first to introduce the genre in Korea but soon they popularized it and made it mainstream whereas before it was a more “underground” thing and now you have this huge western influence in kpop which wasn’t there before Bigbang.
