Man, this game makes me remember one of my early 40k experiences. It was back in 3rd ed. the gaming store had a big campaign battle day. They combined BFG and 40k where the BFG games determined factors of the ground fights. The one and only game I played before I was eliminated was against Tyranids, I had Space Marines. My BFG player was struggling. Although he maintained ships over the planet to give me orbitals most of his ships got cut off so the Tyranids kept getting reinforcements. It was just a really great cinematic moment, every turn I would drop 3 large blast orbys on his army and take out huge chunks of his front lines but every turn for him he would move up his back line and drop his reinforcements behind them. It was like that scene in Starship troopers where they are trapped in that base and the bugs are piling up so high that they're getting over the walls. Except I didn't get a last minute extract lol.
Not surprised to hear it coming back (given the re-releases of Space Hulk, Blood Bowl & Necromunda). Surprised (and a bit saddened!) to hear it'll be a more limited 30k game, where did you hear that, any other details? Also, isn't it meant to be late 2018 they are re-releasing Adeptus Titanicus? Wouldn't expect them to have those releases overlapping?
I have no idea why, but watching this just seems the perfect way to unwind after a hard day of work. BFG was such an under rated GW game. I really hope it gets a reboot someday.
Have you tried Dropfleet Commander btw? I really wanted it to rekindle my love for fleet games but the rules are murderously difficult to understand, to me anyway. Great ship models tho.
Such a great game! Glad you guys are keeping this one alive with the Throwback Thursday reports. I need to get this one back on the table myself. Have a fleet of Eldar Dragonships I need to try out.
Ah, so classic. I will never sell my Blood Angels fleet.. I ruled tables with that. My buddy used to rule with his Necrons too, but they do *not* like bombardment cannons.. :)
Am I misremembering the Thunderhawk rules? Aren't they dual purpose super-fighters and (very good) assault boats, not fighters and bombers? You seem to be making bombing runs, but I don't recall that being a thing Marines could do.
You are correct. He should be making hit and run attacks not bombing runs with those Thunderhawks. Unless he's upgraded them to be Thunderhawk Annihilators? Which I don't remember him saying anything about when describing the fleets.
I think that's down to taste really. While I think Armada is a great game, I'm not a huge fan of all the widgets on their bases or the cards and order dials used in play. Apart from Ordinance and Blast Markers BFG doesn't use a massive amount of clutter, but it does require a little more book-keeping on paper. :)
