This time, the opponents hit the floor with a thud and the San Antonio Spurs were able to keep them down, protecting a 15-point cushion at the start of the fourth period to take a 1-0 series lead in the NBA Finals with a 101-89 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday night. The Spurs built that double-digit lead thanks to a 32-17 third-quarter blitz fueled by the dominating duo of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. Duncan scored 13 of his game-high 32 points in the decisive quarter and Parker poured in nine of his 16 points to take Round 1 of his championship bout with Jason Kidd.

Watching this reminded me of how good Tim Duncan was. Those last 7-8 years he played more within the team concept and allowing other guys to go off this THIS is Timmy at his best and no one was better at the PF position.

Duncan destroyed K-Mart this series but then again who didn't Duncan destroy

The 2005 pistons - Ben and Rasheed Wallace shut him down.

@@AgentJ2007Duncan averaged 20.6 points per game and 14 rebounds plus over 2 blocks a game. I agree that the pistons slowed him down and ginobili could've very easily won finals MVP that same series as well but they didn't shut him down by any means.

Game 6 of that series shows the difference between a good player and a transcendent superstar. Duncan absolutely destroyed Martin. It was masterful.

Damn how time flies. Watched this game live when i was 12 years old. Back then when i was younger i always thought kenyon martin and charles barkley had similar style of play down low. Ofcourse Martin can't shoot threes. But bruh, duncan killed them on that game. And the to those wondering about the floor cam it was mounted on the floor like lights you see in the tarmack of the airport. DUH? lmao. Floor cams happened when ABC took coverage of the NBA finals until they took it out because of lebron james' huge balls. Apparently the NBA can not control what the players wear. And to those who don't know or who were still swimming in the ball sacs of their dad NBC used to cover the finals

Kenyon Martin wasn't getting the calls Tim Duncan was, anytime in this series Kenyon used his quickness advantage and crowded Duncan on faceup the refs called ticky tack fouls, is what it is you have overcome shit but this finals. One way cant be ticky tack and other no calls, as you Kenyon asking for and 1 on his drives. Could Kenyon stop Duncan nah, he didn't have lower body bulk , just like Jermaine oneal, but he could battle him and stop in sports if refs would allow him to play. Spurs was better team because Nets messed up by not keeping Stephen Jax, he out played Richard Jefferson especially after Byron Scott took a shot at him. Nets had bad matchup I would've put Kittles on Parker who was super quick, fast with long arms to put clamps on Tony but Byron Scott wasn't greatest coach in world.

thats one thing about duncan. he would always get calls while doing his slow/awkward/off balance post moves. and if he didn't get a call he would look at the ref and complain. the guy acted like he was getting fouled on every play. on the other side refs let him be physical on d and would act all surprised when refs occasionally called a foul on him. he definitely got exposed when he played for team usa in 04. he wasn't as "dominant" as he appeared in the nba when he wasn't getting his calls from fiba refs
