Throwdown with Bobby Flay and Kent Rollins. In this recap of the season premiere of Throwdown, Bobby Flay challenges Kent Rollins to his famous chicken fried steak! Courtesy of The Food Network.
I know you're a busy guy but I wanted to give you an update. Last Saturday I was driving home in the afternoon and I was hit by a white car in my scooter. long story short my shoulder was broken on the left side which is my dominant side. So anyways the people who hit me are suing me even though it was obvious it was their fault number police video and my statement. Have you able to get the video off the cameras in the area but I was hit. I'd ask that you pray but I recover quickly because my dog but I just adopted about one month ago he doesn't understand why I'm not there and he's back with his old family which really means the outside. He has a nice dog tonight with dog beds he didn't have that before until I met him that he does have someone coming and giving him food and her shade for him but he's on a short little chain and whereas in my room he could walk around anywhere he likes. Please pray that my appointment goes well and the doctor says my arm can heal sooner and it's saying like 3 to 6 months and that's just I need to be able to use it it's not being able to walk him I don't really understand because I lock him with my right hand. you know my dog he knows I'm injured because when I went to visit him the second time he was more calm and gentle I know the way to stand so he doesn't hurt my left shoulder
@@timmytide1 it had been many years since I had cooked. Found Kent and watching his videos gave me the confidence to cook. Not just for me but the whole danged house. TY Kent. I love your videos. Keep'em comming...
@@Rtie189 I'm not the cowboy but I can tell you that smoothing the edges will help with that. Sand paper and re-season properly. If they're already smooth make sure the oil is on well.
I got to tell you he's got a really strong faith in Jesus. It's nice not having people crucify him. It's hard in California. I remember when people used to ask me what I do on Sunday I'd tell them I go to church before I could even finish they were ripping my throat out. After 20 years of being a Christian and being a self-supported missionary for 15 years but when I do talk with other westerners from Western countries it does make me nervous even though I'm American. I especially feel nervous if I'm talking to men but I've made some pretty hostile women too. It's sad because they think I am like I'm too traditional. I'm just a classical feminist this third generation of feminism is pretty creepy to be honest. If people gave me a chance they'd be surprised what God has done in Taiwan and how many had their life changing really big ways. Guys if you think Kent is a cool guy then please be willing to try to know other Christians. Christian doesn't mean you're perfect it just means that you need God in your life. It takes more courage to say that you're a broken person and you need God when it does to pretend that everything's okay.
Cowboy Kent Rollins thank you for your quick response, I will get your book as soon as I can . Im in Texas where all this flooding happened and unfortunately my job of 18 years is completely destroyed. Im hoping to get something soon
"Old Bertha, she ain't never been nothin' but hot and heavy all her entire life". That had me rolling around howling like a lunatic. Certain parts of the country/world just have such hilarious ways of saying things.
You know what I love about this video, it shows how much respect you show everybody. I know in some other videos you said you don’t consider yourself a chef, but beating Bobby Flay means much more than being a chef. You’re a master of your craft Kent. Thank you so much for all these videos you do. I have much better dishes now cause of you. My friends and family Thank you.
I loved loved how Kent showed his respect as he always does!! That's the southern charm coming out .... loved this video!! congratulations Kent Rollins!
I'm originally from New York and moved to Texas 13 years ago. I was fascinated by chicken fried steak when I got here. When I saw Bobby put bacon on the gravy, I knew it was over for him. No need for all that.
Chicken fried steak is a southern dish not only in Texas but all over the south I grew up eating the finest in the world cooked by my mother God rest her soul
I've been addicted to watching Cowboy Kent for the last 6 months and I've always hated to cook. I left that up to my wife because i worked 7-12's in construction. Now I'm dazzling her with great meals and she thinks I've been hiding talent for 30 years. I'm a rock star in her eyes! It's great to see her relax while I cook a great meal. Thanks Kent!
He cooked it on the chuck wagon kitchen too tho, something he's never done before. I think he knew he lost once he tasted Cowboy Kent's, but still put up a good fight.
"At his own game"!? That made me laugha bit. Bobby (mad props) is an Irish New Yorker, wandering into an area of the country where CFS is a religion. Fun episode, would love to see the rest
Kent, you are the man when it comes to chuck wagon cooking. I learned to love cooking in cast iron from you. It truly does make everything taste better.
I watched this clip strictly for entertainment value, since the outcome was never in doubt. I love everybody, but I am a fanatical Southerner, and have yet to meet a Yankee I thought could chicken-fry anything. Bobby gave it a great shot, but I knew Kent was comin' out on top. Nice goin' Kent (and Bertha)!! 👍👍
5:25 That's it, every time. An excellent chicken fried steak is plenty meaty, but if you can still cut it with nothing but a fork, without struggling through it, you know you're onto something good.
Look people since my first chicken fried steak in Georgetown, Texas at the L&M Cafe in 1967 I have been hooked. I have had the good and mostly bad in other states from Indiana to Wyoming but Texas is where the best are. The real secret is the gravy and those older cooks know how to keep it original.
Time flies man. That was almost 9 years ago. Cowboy Kent still is worth his salt and a great cook if not one of the best when it comes to comfort food that keeps you warm inside and makes people show up once you're cooking. God bless this Gentleman, Shanon and The Beagle, who told me more about food, fun and being a good neighbour than any other channel on RU-vid.
The moment i saw this episode Sir Kent, i became your number #1 fan. I was cheering for your Chopped appearances as well! Keep up the good work Sir Kent And i hope the next generations to come will continue the tradition of cooking in the chuckwagon
9 years later I just discovered Kent Rollins. I missed the chuck wagon but I'm catching up. Mr Rollins you sir are entertaining and informative. Thank you for your amazing content.
Cook a better chicken fried steak than Cowboy Kent Rollins? C'mon, man! Love Kent's recipes; love his videos; love his outlook & attitude. PS - I appreciate his appreciation of veterans.
For Kenn & Shannon, l received your cookbook recently. Made it for dinner for my lady, 2 grand kids, and myself. It blew my recipe out of the water! Great reciepe beats all others, nothing left, no left overs. Never saw a 2 year old eat more than his 4 year old sister. Thank you from Alaska.
Gordon Reiher All Bobby won on this challenge is a few lost pounds of water weight that he sweat out under the Texas sun. His assistant even said she only does cooking in air conditioned kitchens. They all probably deeply regret trying to Throwdown with Kent. I mean, it was just flour, salt, pepper and arbol chile right???? LOL.
He tends to cheat: in Vermont, going against Bove's Lasagna, he had out-of-state college students enamored and voting his way. He also pumped WAY more money into his recipe. That was a huge blow to the business, and the eatery eventually closed, the focus shifting to sauces and frozen foods. If Bobby had actual VERMONTERS test it, it would have gone to Bove's.
I was thinking to myself after watching the recent video with Uncle Roger, Mr. Kent, and your Smoked Shotshells and i was like "i've seen this guy somehwere before" then you mentioned the Chicken Fried Steak and besting Bobby Flay. Then i came to this video. I remember watching this episode with my Grandmother (who passed away this year) on Food Network when it first aired. I was about 10 or 11 years old. Now i'm 27, man time flies by fast.
This is the third episode I've seen. Do they always pick the more traditional A over the more cooking school B? Is Bobby Flay sort of like the Washington Generals of cooking, meant to lose to make the other guy look good? Either way if I ever go to Texas again I will definitely look for a chuck wagon fried steak like this.
I think so. He and the show would look kind of arrogant if they went into little towns across the US and beat the local guy who specializes in making his region's known dish. Bobby is a good sport for participating in this show at all. He's kinda in a lose, lose situation.
Mr. Rollins: I really enjoyed this video as I do all the others. At what point in your life did you start/want to get into cooking? Your folksy downhome manner is what I miss too as I grew up in Ohio. Your personality makes me often think about my Grandparents who were just as honest, unassuming and yet thankful for each days blessings as are you are in EACH video. I always enjoy ending each day by watching one random video of yours here on You Tube and always remember, it's not so much about the food on the plate but more so the people eating it.. Good health to you and may God's hands keep you safe.
Congrats. That was a good show Bobby Flay had. He didn't win much, but he was going up against the best people in that speciality. That's some tough competition.
Surrrrre wish I could get Cowboy Kent's special recipe. Especially since odds are verrrrry slim I would evvver get the privilege of eating a Chicken Fried Steak made by the man himself, cooked on his faithful Bertha. I would guard his recipe with my life and nevvvvver tell a soul.
I had my real taste of camp cooking more than 20 years ago! I have cooked in camps, but full kitchens and walk in coolers, gas stoves with sweltering heat as a topper. It wasn't until I moved to Northern Canada, met a cowboy from Quesnel, where my foray into this adventure began. Now, a father of two precocious and fearless (at times) young boys, I have introduced them to country cooking with Dutch ovens and BBQ here on Vancouver Island. Thank you for your recipes, humour, manners, skills and guidance as I educate my little country gentlemen on eating well and supplying for their future!
Omg you beat Bobby Flay ! Good for you Kent ,that is a rare treat and well deserved defeat ,I am so proud of you ! He is one of my favorite chefs ,I have been watching him from right out of school ! Well Done sir ! Well Done !
bucket list you would be on it nothing better then a gentleman with sense of humor you just see integrity and honer love watching all your cooking wish I could have stayed a cowgirl forever seeing this and missing good people that are beautiful human beings. ..love all you cooking and learning so much thank you for making it easy and fun or should say make it look easy.
I love it. He even tried to cheat and use bacon. 😁 I'm trying to figure out how he cooked the flavor out of the bacon🤣 Congratulations Kent a well earned win.
@@CowboyKentRollins Love your channel Kent. I am a lifetime chef if you will. I knew that yours was better by the look and the fact that you didn't mess around with an over the top "dusting." I have been getting by on staples I learned as a young teen from my family. Thank you for your time.
I've spent 25 years of my life Roasting pigs, and baking Dutch oven outdoors. However I've never got a Throwdown with Flay You Sir, are awesome.. I bow to your experience.. GOOD STUFF!
There are people that know how to cook, and there are people good at cooking. People like immigrant restaurant owners, mothers on the farm, and men running a chuck wagon...These are the people that know how to cook. These people don't have time or interest in complicated 24 step recipies. The food's gotta be good, and it's gotta be ready on time. For the record, I miss having a good camp cook, but then I can do it myself, so here's to my simpler diet.
Wait, so they lied to Kent and told him he was getting his own show just to surprise him with a challenge? Bobbys behaviour over the years is disrespectful and diva-ish, good to see him get whupped.
When you pound the meat so thin all you get is crust.. you've already lost.. Bobby is a pretty good cook; he's just got an obnoxious personality; and not the kind you like to watch like Gordon's.. Glad Kent kicked his arse
Though I'm sure it's better than anything I could do, Bobby Flay didn't have much luck with Chicken Fried Steak on "Throw Down". He also got spanked by Paula Deen (Season 3, Episode 4) on the same challenge.
Bobby Flay - most obnoxious TV "chef" of all time, thinks an expensive cut of beef will make the best CFS? Just proves he doesn't even know what it is. Maybe he should do what he does best: being mouthy, pretentious, and self-idolizing in front of a camera. Leave the cooking to Kent Rollins.
Congrats on beating Bobby Flay . Your recipes are the best .Bobby can cook but sometimes you can't beat home style recipes that you cook .hes sometimes a little cocky and gets over confident in the fact he thinks because he's culinary school trained he's better then every one else .you are a humble man that learned to cook at your mother's side and years of experience and common sense . God bless you Kent
Mary, I 100% Agree with you!! I like Bobby Flay and used to watch his throw downs.... but man sometimes him being so cocky would get under my skin.... But Still liked him...liked his show.. BUT Mr.Kent Rollins shows class and has respect ALL THE TIME !!!! You just can't beat that part or being taught to cook by your moma and grandmother..... That's a blessing!! Kent your a blessing ALREADY in my life ... I love you and Sharon ALREADY.... love the 2 of you TOGETHER..... Just simply good FOLKS!! Amen and Thank You Lord... bc i truly love cooking channels and you and another Ms Phyllis is my favorite 2!! Id say prob not ONLY B.C. y'all can cook but both y'all are kind hearted and I can feel it .... I like that in folks.. So Ty for taking time to share your many video's that I'm bing watching!! to catch up lol oh how I ENJOY!!
