In October 2021, the ADK Woods Walker gang set out on a 50-mile thru-hike of the Cranberry Lake 50 in the New York Adirondack Park to talk about and reflect on the importance of Mental Health Awareness!
The crew took 5 days to complete the loop, and visited some of the most beautiful remote locations in the Western Adirondacks! This is the compilation of the entire trip!

Hope you enjoyed the video! Thank you very much for your continued support! We've had an excellent time sharing things with you all throughout the month of October, and with your help, we were able to surpass our goal of raising more than $2,000 for the HIKE for Mental Health organization's annual #hikeOctober fundraiser!

Said it on IG, saying it here after watching this again - this helped my motivation to complete this recently - got outside and did something awesome. I went against the trend though going counterclockwise! Thankfully I also knew the term flatish. A few up/downs, downs/up whooped me into needing a rest.

@JayMorrisonOutdoors Год назад
Glad you got out there, and yea, "flattish" is a very helful term hehe I think the next time I do the CL50, I'm going CCW ... wondering if it changes the adventure at all!!
@bucky716
@bucky716 Год назад
@@JayMorrisonOutdoors I had tried going clockwise and went from Wanakena to Cranberry Lake. Probably because my mind remembers that section as unsuccessful but I also thought it was the most boring part of the trail. Once I got to that area this time I knew it had no dam obstacles and I could just night hike and finish at the tennis courts or what I chose in stopping at that leanto closest to the Ranger School. Yea, I think it changes it! Just bring some alternate light shoes to walk the dams to avoid the primary shoes getting destroyed early.

Looked like a great time! I can't wait to attempt the CL50 again next summer (didnt have success this year but lessons learned). Treated myself to cold beverages from Otto's for at least trying. lol

Congratulations, on another thru hike of the CL-50. It was one of my first backpacking trips in the Adirondacks. It's really great to see ya'll supporting mental health and being outside is great self care. Keep the awesome content coming.

What a great video. Thanks for bringing us along again. I am planning to do this hike next fall with the AA crew. Seems to be quite the wet trail. I noticed you've got a new lighter pack. What did you end up going with? Almost looks like the ohm 2.0 but I can't quite be sure.

I'm rocking the Hilltop Packs Raven UL40 (slightly oversized to 45 liters) ... it's a Dyneema pack that weighs about 17-18oz and is fully customized with my logo and motto! Best. Pack. Ever. I'll be doing a review on it later this month, so check it out!

Great job Jay. This experience certainly appeared to be way more enjoyable and you were able to experience it with your friends. Great colors and beautiful views from Cat Mtn and High Rock. Pro tip, there are 2 lean-tos at high falls. The east side is where you stayed and it always sees a lot of foot traffic. Lucky for your friend you were there. The west side requires you to cross the river and rarely gets visitors because of that reason, historically my choice.
@JayMorrisonOutdoors
@JayMorrisonOutdoors 2 года назад
Thanks - this trip was amazing, in no small part due to the crew I was hiking with! We knew about the other lean-to but didn't really find an easy way to cross - it's on my list to check out when I eventually do the Oswegatchie Traverse ;)

Hurray!! Well you certainly have become a seasoned hiker. What a transition from your first CL50 to this one. I enjoy your group of friends, they look like it would be a lot of fun to hike with them. I just love the fall in Star Lake/Cranberry Lake it is beautiful and if the timing is right the weather can be gorgeous. I hope to hike this sometime in 5 days so it was interesting to see your mileage stops for a 5 day trip. I did miss the funny ending of your first trip and the hard truth about carrying too much weight. I imagine my hike as being closer to what your first hike of the 50 was. Cheers!!

Thank you! I was just talking to the guys today and saying how - by comparing the 2 videos - I can see how much I've grown as a hiker AND an editor ;) Like I told the guys who hadn't done a hike like this ever (or in a really long time), learn from my mistakes and do what you can to make it the best hike ever, but the most important thing is to get out there and just do it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Do you know if it’s good to hike this trail in late April? Thanks enjoy your ADK videos.
@JayMorrisonOutdoors
@JayMorrisonOutdoors Год назад
CL50 is a great trail all the time ;) HOWEVER it is pretty wet normally, so with spring rains and snow melt, I imagine some sections will be even more underwater than normal ... depending on the year, obviously. The other thing to be aware of is that with the wet trail comes a plethora of mosquitoes, black flies, noseeums, and every other flying/biting bug. Not that it's unmanageable, but it is definitely something to consider. Then again, if we have a colder April, you may not have to worry about wet and bugs, and you could have a wicked good time. Good luck ... have fun ... and thank you for your support!

There is a Cranberry 50 Facebook group that is great and full of helpful folks. There is also a small guidebook that the Facebook group can help you find.

@JayMorrisonOutdoors 2 года назад
Just like ALORDW mentioned, the guidebook is a helpful resource, but overall the biggest planning tool I used for this trip was information from my last time doing the CL50. I knew where I was hoping to stay to break up the trip into 5 days, and then checked the mileage of route with Caltopo.com. Thanks for watching, and if you need any help, feel free to reach out!
