NOTE. All my wires in this panel are 12 gauge. So it is ok to put a 20 amp on a 12 gauge wire.
It is NOT ok to put a 20 Amp breaker on a 14 gauge wire.

Simply replacing a 15amp breaker with a 20amp breaker is NOT fine. A 20amp breaker on a circuit wired for 15amps is unsafe. Like REALLY unsafe. Like potential fire in the wall unsafe.

HELLO Scott. Going back to the video, I realized I didn't mention that all my wires in that panel are 12 gauge. I failed to do that. So yes !! it is unsafe to install a 20 amp breaker on a 14 gauge wire. Being that the case we are ok. I installed a 20 amp breaker on a 12 gauge wire. Thank you so much for pointing that out. I put a note on the description video.

Great video. Unfortunately it doesn't address my problem. I have a GE thru wall unit--230 volt. We had a power outage which tripped some breakers in the building and also destroyed some surge protectors. Not all the breakers were tripped just a couple. This AC unit has a circuit breaker with test and reset buttons built into the power cord. Every time I try to plug it back in it trips the power cord breaker. There is power coming to the outlet. I can buy a new power cord for this unit but it's $170.00. I'll happily pay that if it fixes the problem. Do you think replacing the cord and breaker will likely fix the problem?

Hello Jon, It might, It might not. It might ve fried some components and now is shorting out. Try this. before you spend the 170. Go to Home Depot or Menards. Get a short power cord with a gfci device. Remove the old cord, www.homedepot.com/p/Tower-Manufacturing-Corporation-18-in-In-Line-GFCI-Cord-30438018/202510249 connect your ac with this one. If it works then buy the 170. If it doesn't return it to Home Depot. If your AC is older than 8 years old I ll get a new unit.

Could be that the breaker is to small to carry the watts

If your wire is 12 gauge and your breaker is 15 amps Yes. Replace it for a 20amp. Your breaker might be faulty or tired. If your wire is 14 gauge replace the 15 amp breaker. Check all the connections to the outlet. Your ac might be too old and compressor is pulling more amps . Replace the ac

What size wire is this 14 or 12 gauge?

Hello Jorge. It is 12. If it was 14 I would not be right to put a 20 amp breaker. 14 gauge 15 amp breaker 12 gauge. 20 amp braker Thanks.

i a certified electrician and engineer, a clogged filter will not raise the circuit load for the type of window unit in the video, the efficiency will be lowered but it will not "do more work" the thermostat will simply run the compressor longer (not harder)to achieve the same temperature

You are a nice guy..., but you msy want to check CODE for where you are?? Because, NO-ONE should think you can replace an undesized (15amp) breaker on a 14/2 gauged wire... TO A (20amp) breaker _ ON THE SAME SIZED WIRE!!?? THE (20AMP) breaker should only be wired to a thicker wire _12/2 guaged wire!!! No matter what N.E.C.., or anyone suggests...!! Common sense should tell you to be safe and NOT OVERLOAD THE WIRES OR BREAKERS.!!!! 14/2 TO 15AMP. 12/2 TO 20AMP. DONT BE CHEAP ...YOULL PAY LATER!!!
