You shouldn’t recommend Brian for the setup on this one. He does a great job most of the time but in this one he tried to demonstrate upgrading to AS3X+ and really did a bad job of it. Just sayin.
@@BladeScuffer Brian is a friend of the channel and we'll recommend him because he's an invaluable resource to the hobby. We haven't had a chance to see his AS3X+ vid yet, but if you want a deep dive into it, you can check out what we posted recently: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CmrWfDjibU0.html
You'll get there dude! Jon was in your boat in late 2020. At the rate you're progressing, you'll be doing this kind of stuff soon too. Always think positive. If Jon's dumb ass can do this, you definitely can!
@@TwoBrosRCI just started flying in April and thanks to you I now own 15+ planes😂 but I've progressed from not being able to fly without safe to now doing high alpha with planes that aren't supposed to (futura). Anyways just wanted to say thank you for saying that because I wouldn't have believed I could do it.
Haha, happy to help there Thomas! Our affiliate links probably don't work in the UK, but if you ever feel the need to hit that Super Thanks button, we'd absolutely appreciate it!
Gyros are more necessary than people will admit. Can’t wait for your 90mm F-16 review. Let me guess how it starts off. Freewing finally got it right on their 5th iteration….
@@TwoBrosRCAfter two crashes, I've made several mods to my V3 which I deemed necessary for it's long term survival and to give it proper flight characteristics. She is considerably heavier than stock. I have a feeling that this V2 90MM has to be flown 8S and with light packs. I will get one as soon as I finish sucking the life out of my V3 70mm.
You've absolutely nailed this review. I wasn't impressed with the standard 6S performance against the 90mm Viper. I then added the TV unit, and it was too much for me. I planned to try the 8S setup, but ive now sold it, as its not how i want to fly. Great awesome and accurate review.
Thanks dude! It's definitely a tossup between the 6 and 8 cell system. The 6 cell setup is great, but the 8 cell setup is heavier - with more thrust, yet only minimal handling differences between them. Hardly like the Viper 90 which felt sluggish on 8 cells due to all the weight it was carrying.
@TwoBrosRC My Viper currently has the 8S fan that was meant for the Avanti. I will be putting the Viper back to 6S though, as I prefer the lighter setup in her.
Incredible video TBRC I have been in Aviation my entire Life I am so thankfull for your information and very complete evaluation of this EDF I build a Bob Violet Electra all though Paint and it was very difficult in the Paint booth in my Hanger here in Alaska I sold it and shiped it off to Texas I also purchased BVM Arf Electra 10 cell Operation it was a real hand full if there had been As3x it would have been appreciated for sure, I have been out of RC for 10 years and am itching to get back into the hobby Flying has been my Life and rc is even better you stand on the ground and see really high G maneuvers and not pass out 45 years ago I started fly Aerobatics and realized I was not going to live a long life if I keep doing flat spins inverted can you feel the pain all the way to the Ground I had many friends that are gone. I am so thank full for your knowledge thanks again TwoBrosRC.
If you can pick it up via the links in the description, that would be a huge help to us! Hope you enjoy, and don't be afraid to ask for help with setup on Discord!
That was crazy! Your skill level in such a short amount of time has skyrocketed. In a short amount of time, you have become as good as most Demo team pilots. Thrust vectoring is awesome. I have the Sky Flight Hobby Super Mig 29 twin 70mm 360 thrust vectoring EDF Jet. It does some wild stuff when you put the nozzles in opposite directions. If you love single nozzle vectoring you will love duel nozzle thrust vectoring.
I’m new to your channel. Actually found you searching for AS3X set up and advanced forward programming. Wow you cover a ton of technical info and I love it ❤. I have several thrust vectored jets including a non vectored FW Avanti. The FMS with TV is my next purchase. Thanks for making a great channel 😊
Welcome aboard, and thank you! We try to be impartial and avoid biases as much as possible. Sticking to showing what a plane is truly capable of while going over a 25 point system designed to tell you specifically what it does and does not have (per class of aircraft of course) should be a fair way to judge these things.
I was on the fence because I was like, meh, another avanti, so i was waiting for a two brothers video of course, but I was curious about the thrust vectoring. I am going to get the 8 cell motor also. Awesome video and presentation as always Jon.
Thanks for the support, John! It means a lot. Every purchase from our links keeps this channel running and makes it possible for us to do things like this. Cheers!
Great video as always. I wish you guys would believe a lot of us like to fly our jets fast and we'd love to see more fast flying/passes, speed tests etc. We don't all just fly high alpha and flipping all the time.
Hey man, thanks for the feedback! Apologies if this next bit comes out curt or disrespectful - it isn't intended to and we hope you don't take it that way: That's the nice thing about RU-vid - there's other channels which focus on other things and have priorities that are different than us. Our priority has never been "speed tests" because we don't care about ground speed on an airplane. We focus on a few things: A) A 25 point review system that covers exactly what you can expect to get from a plane you purchase, regardless of whether you use our affiliate links or buy it after considering it from someone else's content. B) How agile the airframe is at all speeds, primarily the low speeds. We focus on this because airplanes go fast by nature, and if it can't fly in a circle or hit at least 50 MPH, it's not much of an airplane.
Great review John, you just made deciding on my next jet all the more complicated. Which do you like more, the FW F-22 (90mm) or this FMS Avanti with TV? Thx
We love 'em both for different reasons. The F-22 is... an F-22. You can't really beat it. Avanti does things it can't do, though. If the F-22 had a TV unit like it should, it would be a much closer comparison.
The gyro was slightly *over*-tuned. The settings we flew were 60 roll, but recommended 50 roll for you guys to help smooth it out a little more and avoid that bounceback. Good eye!
@@TwoBrosRC It had to be something like that, or a structural issue, but seeing how the jet held up in those thrust vectoring moves, something being loose/floppy seemed highly unlikely. Good to see the correction to the settings has already been applied in the gyro setup overview.
It would be cool to review the FRsky radio. X20 RS or Pro. I heard they are awesome Radios packed with options and insane range, and with IRX4 Lite module works great with Spektrum and Futaba and 100 others !!
@@TwoBrosRC horizon contractually made it easy for themselves to be the "mainstream vendor" for FMS via large quantity shipments a few years back. They order large quantities of FMS products in order to retail them close to factory-direct pricing. Also FMS manufactures E-Flite planes as part of that agreement, I believe, which is a Horizon brand. While Horizon may or may not sell this model at this time, I definitely started associating FMS with Horizon about 3 years ago.
@@TwoBrosRC, Hello Jon, first thanks for the proper credit in your video. The Horizon factor is FMS is a proprietary brand of Horizon Hobby. Jason Merkle of Horizon Hobby has made statements to this in RC Groups posts. Here is a link to Wikipedia showing their proprietary brands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon_Hobby
@@DesertFoxProductions Sorry about not asking ya first, but hopefully the shout-out can get some of our audience to check out your great content! HH did come out and clarify that FMS is not a brand they own though, just to clear that up.
My 8s was just too heavy with TV. The lipos needed to CG is jusy too much. More weight than thrust and a heavy character. Im settled on 7s on the stock edf and means I can use any 6s that I may have left over whilst at the field. Such a shame more manufacturers dont bring out a TV option on their jets.
Can't say we experienced it being too heavy. It flew great on TV with 8 and 6 cells. The difference was only perceptible in post-stall maneuvering, and only then during flat spins or other tumble maneuvers.
@TwoBrosRC I'm suprised you didn't notice the extra weight as you are the guy who loves lightness and agility. The 8s fans extra 220g and extra 250g bump from 6s to 8s just wasn't welcome for me on this jet.
Just didn't feel it this time. It was quite odd. Something about the design of this jet makes it less noticeable. Probably the TV system - because without it the jet would most likely lumber around on 8 cells.
Thrust vectoring will require an extra 2 channels on the receiver? Basically, a 10 channel to include thrust reverse? Asking because I've never had a TV model before.
Yes, hence why we're recommending the AR10360T - plus the multi-gyro setup on that particular receiver. Links are all in the description, but definitely hop on Discord and ask for help. We'll gladly guide you through it.
Yes, but only with thrust vectoring. And we say this as a channel whose logo is the Viper 90 flying a high alpha pass. If the Viper had TV, we'd see a real battle of aerobatic prowess.
