Not related to this product at all, but I think the most "innuendo-filled" product I ever owned was the Thurstmaster Top Gun joystick. I mean.... c'mon... CA: ncix.com/search... US: us.ncix.com/sea...
I am talking about 2 Thrustmaster wheels. The first 80 euro wheel used a cheap phonejack (RJ11) connector to connect the pedals. The phonejack connector went bust after ~1 year, some broken wire while I am careful with wires not being squeeshed... This wheel of several hundred euro's uses the same crap connectors. If I look at the Logitech wheels, they use solid DB9 connectors for everything on very strong cables. I've got this wheel 4 years, use it daily (moving around) and it works perfectly.
As a religious but not overly religious person, I believe that science is a very huge part of it, and love the introduction of this Higgs-thing, if it supposedly explains what they say it does, of course.
Actually, there's a shifter (th8rs) and a F1 Ferrari wheel add-on (fully compatible) also from thrustmaster for those who are interested in this T500rs. Have fun !
Not all games have wheel animations that are limited to one pixel per data point, since that would make for highly inaccurate handling of a car's turning movements. That massive range of data points would be actually usable in various racing simulations, since their game engines don't take into account what's being represented on screen until it's actually time to render what's happening in the game. Circular movements also don't tend to correlate nicely with square pixels on screen.
I has playing on gt5 with the Red Bull X2010 on my Logitech GT on max strength and it almost ripped my arms off... I just imagine what would happen in the same conditions, now with this beauty.
Linus, now you're wrong there is only 1 version of T500RS and it is pc and ps3 copatible, there is no T500 wheel that isnt PC copatible. (refering that "it is not pc copatible" at start of the video). But finally you managed to unbox it after one and half years of being in sale :D. I got one, and its best money i have spent.
thanks for the review the main thing i was interested to see (which you inadvertently covered was the clearance between the shifters and the wheel... when you hold it up i can clearly see i will not be hitting them while turning. good to know - purchase time. still worried about all the reviews about it overheating and losing welds and having terrible customer support. but hopefully my modding skills and willingness to alter freshly bought item regardless of warranty may help me revise the case a bit and include a few noctua's on an rpm controller. (ps i have already done this for a friends g27)
I use a Logitech Momo Forcefeedback wheel for many years! I had some problems, i fixed it and it stil works great! It has a leather steeringwheel, metal shifters on the wheel, and some metal covers on the pedals. The internals, motor and frame are also metal. I bought it dirt cheap!
The Thrustmaster wheels are compatible with both PS3 and PC. All you have to do is download the drivers. Even their F430 wheel (PC) worked on GT5 even though you can't customize the controls for it. Still the controls are preset to navigate the game with no problem.
Hey Linus, looks like my 2012 Focus wheel, haha, fly by wire, turns easy in one direction, gives a lot of feedback in the other direction. I can drive one handed going around corners, couldn't say that on my 02 Honda Civic, sharp corners better use both hands.
Thats because its possibly one of best wheels on the market for sim racers... Its probably the CSR Elite then this wheel... This is such a well built wheel and many many people give it superb reviews..
There actually is a non-RS version, but it's an F1 steering wheel and it's even more expensive :D. But I agree, this one should also be compatible with a PC!
The pedals from Fanatec are superior. I have both the T500 RS and the new Fanatec ClubSport Pedals V2. The last is definitely superior in feel and accuracy. My complaint about the T500 is the loud fan and the rubber steering wheel which can be pretty painful as it rubs against the skin of your hands, because the motor in the wheel is pretty powerful. The T500 is not my choice of wheel personally. Decent wheel though for the current price.
Linus, it is PC compatible. There are already different rims. I don't think this unboxing does the wheel justice. Also, anyone in the comments is plain stupid if they say 'I had a $X thrustmaster wheel and it broke' this wheel is $500+.
Well, I suppose in a racing game, if you move it to the first data point (somehow), you may not be able to see it turn, but it will be moving in that direction and after a while you'll be able to see it move that way.
The D-pad comparison was not entirely true. Actually the D-pad on the PS3 controller can detect how hard it is pushed down. I don't remember the actual number of how many different "steps" it can recognize, but i remember the number being quite satisfying from a theoretical point of view. I used to own a PS3 and remember it working very well in games like GT.
All the Thrustmaster wheels I've ever owned have broken :( but with 24month warranty I just kept returning them and getting new ones, at the end of the 24months I returned it and got a credit note and then brough another one (renewing the warranty!)
Now,to convince my gf to let me use her half of the garage for a projector and this Thrustmaster setup, talk about one big ass Formula 1 racing setup, haha..
Fanatec GT2 FTW. Works on all consoles and has an ABS sensor if you get the clubsport pedals. T500 is still a great wheel but I think it could be better considering the price.
I have t500rs use it with iracing for full use, (works with pc has a firmware upgrade for that), it has 16 bit resolution compared to every other wheel that carries 8-10 bit it makes a difference when your competing, g27 was the boss but getting out-dated,
yeah well there is only two differancess between them the numbers of buttons at the front and the shape of the whele so i would say that him mentioning that were not that out of place
There is only one version. You can use that on your pc or ps3. Just make sure you update the firmware first because it fixed some issues. :) I have owned that for almost a year now.
0:18 What? I can´t find a PC version and PS3 version. And I cannot find that information on either their website or anywhere else. And people with the RS seems to be able to hook it up to their PC.
the one problem i see is, for a "real driving simulator" wheel, its missing the H pattern. I've got one of the older Logitech G25 racing wheels, and the H pattern is amazing. if they added that support in and Xbox 360 support for forza, then it would be amazing
And... T500RS and T500 F1 Integral wheels are.. well relatively cheap, there are even more expensive wheels like ECCI and Frex but theyre in 1500-3000$ range. I bought first T500RS and then F1 Add-On when it came aviable in here europe, offcourse Fanatec's new ClubSport wheel is even more expensive than T500RS and T500 F1 Integral wheels but ClubSport wheel is more high quality wheel.
Hi, Linus. Can I extend an existing wifi network with a wifi powerline adapter (dlink w306av)? Don't know if it's possible @ all but I'd like to extend the existing network instead of setting up a second one. And then set up my machines to connect to adapter with better/stronger signal.
yeah thrustmaster used to make cheapo wheels back before they made this one but the t500 definitely 100% is THE best thing out there beside fully custom wheels that cost thousands.
This is probably the only steering wheel with a proper sized steering wheel. Fanatec and Logitech have undersized wheels and even the Thrustmaster 458/430 are undersized
linus, its nice & ok to show of console items. Just don't forget as you have claimed to be a PC Gamer. we would need to see the Pc version for the rest of us PC Gamers.
Where do yo do your research? There isn't a non RS version, just the one you're reviewing, which is both PC and PS3 compatible. Dude. There's also a detachable F1 rim available as well as a dual manual/sequential gear lever (TH8RS) that's sold separately.
Linus, since this wheel is a PS3-only version, try Gran Turismo 5. It's the closest you can get to an accurate representation of actual (real-life) driving... but nowhere as close as the PC simulators: iRacing.com, rFactor 2, Race 07 and its expansion packs, Live For Speed, Netkar Pro and a few others. iRacing.com has the undisputed, best physics engine you can possibly get: the closest representation to real-life driving. rFactor 2 loves to tax graphics cards: it looks real (and feels real).
It's $700+ and that includes the F1 wheel i'm pretty sure. Also $700+ is what sim racers would use, it's not something that everybody would buy. If you want something more mainstream get the G27. Because the G27 and T500 are not comparable.
