thanks for the review, ended up getting the tx with the shifter and the same wheel u have and been playing dirt 4 like a boss, enjoyed every second, except for the crashes :P
My G25 died on me after 10+ years (nothing mechanical, circuit board fried in a hot summer day while heavy racing) After long research I ordered a G29; I know TM TX has better FFB, but after all the horror stories I heard from buyers of TX ,(In my country Thrustmaster doesnt even have proper customer service btw) I decided on the tried and tested Logitech setup. If it will last me another 10+ years it is money well spent.

The fact that you chose to buy another TX when you came back to sim racing says it all. Good review thanks. I've just recently ordered one, looking forward to getting it, and hoping it feels like a step up from my G27 :)
@@lystic9392 Unfortunately I had bad luck. I sent it back because it had a very strong 'notchy' feel when rotated. I got a TS-PC as a replacement and that was worse! Thrustmaster say 'super smooth rotation' for both these wheels. I then tried a T300, and I am very happy with it, extremely smooth in rotation. One or two people say the TX & TSPC wheels do get smoother with time, but I didn't want to risk keeping it in case it didn't smooth out. I really believe they should not have been as rough as they were, and I would still like to try a TX or TSPC Racer in the future but I just don't know. The TX has the same motor as the T300 so it doesn't make sense that they should be so different. Anyway, 3 weeks on and the T300 is great :)
@@kmw6845 Wow thanks for responding so fast! I guess I should have expected that from someone who plays racing games. I am looking to purchase a wheel today and it's a tough decision. Your info will help me a lot.
I'm thinking of purchasing the TX Leather edition (leather wheel, T3PA pedal set with the package). I've heard Thrustmaster had some durability issues, but this has definitely helped my thoughts on purchasing one. I'm pretty new to the racing scene, right now only really play Forza Horizons 3, but looking at getting into some other more serious sims in the future and would like to have a nice wheel for it.
I wouldnt suggest getting it for fh3. Its good but its not competitive enough and too much on the arcade style. Also it does not have much force feedback. I would suggest however to get one if playing fm6, project cars, assetto corsa and F1 games
Forza is not worth it with a wheel. Well, it is until you play other sims like Assetto or iRacing. But the TX is a great one. I have mine for 2,5 years now and it's still rocking. TX Base + TM28 GT Leather is the best combo in my opinion. Really nice stuff. But havin just bought Fanatec CSP V3s I'm going to sometime get a CSL Base to replace my TX... feeling kinda sad to do so to be honest.
Great review. I bought my TX 3 years ago, still works perfectly! Kudos to TM, they hit it out of the park with this base. I have the leather rim, TH8A and the T3PA pro pedals, and I couldn’t be happier with everything. Zero need to upgrade, IMO $1500 for a Fanatec is ridiculous given what this product offers for a third of the price!! 👍
I'm very much a casual, what would the t3pa pedals offer sensation wise compared to the pedals the tx comes with? I'm ordering one now given after having my Logitech g29 wasn't doing enough for me (also how they did the brakes resistance with that crummy rubber thing instead of just a decent spring setup). Also felt hard to correct after slips. Mind you, I just find more fun in casually driving around trying to tame cars lol
I just recently got the TX Leather edition with the T3PA pedals and i really like it. I got the LMP1/F1 style thrustmaster add on wheel. it makes a nice difference since it is much lighter you can feel the FFB better.
I have purchased refurbished thrustmaster products in the past and have barely had issues. Sure I may have to modified mounting options on my home built rig but it would be the same with any other rig. The wheel feels really smooth and the feedback is strong and super informative, I have owned two wheels and got myself a working thrustmaster tx setup with custom wheel and t3pa pedals for a total of 300$, and has lasted through use, for anybody that is scared of thrustmaster you don't have to worry, just treat what you have with respect, its not military grade equipment, But with good use and care it will be a great wheel for years,
Great video. Thanks I was on the fence about buying this wheel, your review was the deciding factor. Hell Yeah!!! All the fun of racing without the chance of dying....
Been using the cheaper Thrustmaster TMX for over 2 years, with over 900 hours in forza 7, and at least 200 hours in assetto corsa. Now its on its way out, I'm upgrading to the tx, with the tlcm pedals.
I have the TMX as well. I got it around mid this year. I wanted the Pro version for the T3PA pedals, but it was sold out, and after a month of waiting on Amazon, Gamestop, wherever, I eventually just bit on the base. Great starter wheel to reaffirm to me that I'm want to get deeper into sim racing. Wheel still works great, but just today, the metal spring in the standard 2 petal set just snapped. Was wanting to replace it anyways and figured I'd upgrade to the TLCM. While looking through Amazon, the TX had a price drop so I bit on that as well along with the Ferrari F1 wheel.
I know this is really late but after hearing so many horror stories about this wheel, and then watching yours and another guy who had been using the t300 for an astonishing 6 years with barely any problems, I realized that 99.9 percent of people who had no problems don’t complain online. I myself for many products included. So thanks a lot for the review mate. I’m still a schoolboy so I’m getting this at my mother’s mercy. Can’t afford a bad wheel
That's almost nothin, 1600+ on g29 and right now only issue i got is the bolts are a bit lose(fixable easy) & the safety for overturning the wheel is gone at one side and the wheel gets uncentered, also fixable but a bit to much work to enjoy it :P I'm still not sure wether to go t500 or TX :/ Not even sure if its a big enough upgrade from g29 as those wheels are amazing as much as people bash them when they have up to 200 hours only and no knowlage.
@@m96k3y7 You know the force feedback on the TX base has a ton more stress on the wheel. With a much more realistic feel and more wheels than just the stock one, it is still better.
Great video Dan! I have the T500RS with the same pedals and shifter as you. It's quality is fantastic. Like you I've had mine several years and it still feels brand new. Over the last 15 years or so I've easily owned at least 10 wheels, and this one is by far the best, and wildly outclasses the G27 I had prior to it. The fans can be noisy in hot conditions or during long play sessions but the performance of the FFB does not slacken off at all. The only issue with the T500RS is the fact that the paddles are attached to the base and not to the wheel so they do not move when you turn (They aren't actually attached to the base - but they are a long way from the wheel, and do not turn with it). You kind of learn to drive around it, but I will replace the wheel with the 599XX wheel you had on your channel recently.
Good wheels. I have the TMX force feedback and upgraded to T3pa pro pedals and the shifter. Very good. Upgrading now to the TX wheel with leather. The TMX wheel was very good so probably not really a necessary upgrade but want the ability to change out rims. Sweetnees for sure.
Great post!! So many users wanting to know the difference between these wheels! Could you please tell us more. I'm about to get the TMX pro kit with the better pedals. 🙂👍
Excellent review man! I am in the process of getting my first force feedback wheel and this helped me greatly. Great structure and explanation, keep up the good work!
Maxxed G920 is great quality and plenty ffb (dependant on game software most cases ) , for the price its better quality , but if money dont matter spend up on thrustmaster high end stuff
I have the TMX. I got it around mid this year. I wanted the Pro version for the T3PA pedals, but it was sold out, and after a month of waiting on Amazon, Gamestop, wherever, I eventually just bit on the standard version which sucked having no clutch which is really an issue with AC since you can't map the clutch to a button. Great starter wheel to reaffirm to me that I'm want to get deeper into sim racing. Wheel still works great, but just today, the metal spring in the standard 2 petal set just snapped. Was wanting to replace it anyways and figured I'd upgrade to the TLCM. While looking through Amazon, the TX base had a price drop so I bit on that as well along with the Ferrari F1 wheel. Wanted the F1 wheel for the buttons. I had been using Anti-Micro virtual controller to get more buttons out of the TMX wheel. Already has a good amount of buttons but not enough to adjust TC and ABS and toggle KERS, DRS, lights, etc. Excited for this set to come.
Started out with the dirt cheap none force feedback thrustmaster Ferrari f458 thought it was great then moved up to the thrustmaster tmx loved it, but some of the latex on wheel was peeling off so took it back and as there wasn't any replacement available I got refund and now waiting for thrustmaster tx leather edition to turn up, also ordered the gt omega stand as I previously had wheel stand Pro. Looking forward to getting back into f1 2017 career. Nice review
I've been using the T500RS wheel and base for about 3 years now and although it seems to work fine it does have a "grainy" feel to it when turning. I did't buy it new though so I should probably be happy to get the amount of time out of it that I have. I've been considering a direct drive set up lately, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. Nice review, take care.
Thanks! Yeah Thrustmaster makes a great product. The T500 has been a proven option for many years. I have felt that grainy feeling in a t500 as well. I think it is just the nature of the motor and mechanisms inside that cause that but still is an amazing wheel. I can only imagine how bad ass those direct drive wheels are. I just don't think I would ever be to the point of needing that much FFB. I find that when you turn it up too high I perform worse on the track so I'll just stick to my little TX lol.
Up2late, what I've seen some people do is lubricate the center shafts. If you open the top cover you'll see a opening with a white shaft that your wheel sits on with grease. You can add grease to that to get rid of the notchy feeling
Yeah someone else just corrected me on that yesterday, I've been thinking that since I got into sim racing in 2013 lol. I find the T300 smoother than the TS-PC which I guess is because of beefier belts in the TS-PC, and given the T500 is older and more powerful than the T300 I think my statement is probably still correct aside from the obvious.
Thrustmaster, the word gives me chills,I just ordered their new pedal set and feeling deep regrets already,it should be arriving in a few weeks but I have depression,Thrustmaster are horrible at qc. I bought a cougar hotas years and years ago and it was broken in the box, before I even used it,also the t300 issues on you tube are in huge number,my g27 wheel may not be as good ffb wise but I will bet that it has a better reliability than the flaky Thrustmaster wheels. Buying a t300 is like playing Russian Roulette, let’s see if I get a bullet after I use my pedals for a month, the only reason I got them is because I am a desk racer and Thrustmaster make a pedal stand that sits under your desk for these pedals. They are going to get hounded if ithis thing breaks.
Hey Dan ,great vid and a solid wheel.Played console for yrs,too many & to be honest got myself the GT OMEGA racing stand & am trying to decide on wheel /pedal setup so....thanks a million,i now know what i am getting and through all the vids of utter drivel yours just lets people know...if you want a good wheel,(without selling your car)this is a good buy that`s going to last & with that,i say thank you.
So Dan,on the way is ...Thrustmaster /TX racing servo base,599xx EVO 30 wheel & T3PA pedal set,all from Amazon at good prices. With a birthday soon this will all be on my GT OMEGA stand and ready to...Gentlemen,start your engines. Thanks again Dan,i think Thrustmaster is the way to go simply because the majority of their products get good reviews & the ease at which your can interchange products to get exactly what feels best to you & when racing in any game comfort when driving is paramount.
I had the wheel too but after i had’ had it a whole year driving it every day it began glitch out bc there were a loose connection somewhere in the wheel and it could’nt be fixed so i got my money back and ive bought the fanatec csl elite instead. I still love and miss my old wheel :(
Yeah good review, I'm glad to have ordered a t300 with the 599 alcantara rim and t3pa pedals, got for £355 on playseatstore UK, although I plan on using my fanatec clubsport pedals with mine with the cpx adapter, I'll be selling the new t3pa pedals I get with it on fleabay to regain some of the wheel outlay.
How is the TX Ferrari 458 wheel compared to the TMX? I’m looking to upgrade but idk if I should save some money and get the TX458 instead of the leather edition.
Nice bro i beat a world record woth this wheel and i could highly remmend for anyone Because im always saying that THRUSTMASTER WHEELS ARE BEST SIM WHEELS FOR AFFORDABLE PRICE EVEN BEGINNER ;)
I'm unsure about getting my first wheel. I want something good and they are on sale at the moment. The choice is the T150 Pro (T3PA pedals) £160 (usually £200), T300 GT £260 (usually £350) or the T300 Ferrari RS £320 (usually £400). I intend to use it for learning drifting on AC, for Dirt Rally and for GT Sport too. The Sparco 383 rim looks awesome as a potential upgrade further down the line but so does the Ferrari one. At the moment I'm not massively into racing games but I love driving (real cars) and thought a proper setup should be way better than a controller.
I am using the g920 for more than 4 years and I am really happy with it, but I'm thinking about buying the ( tx leather ) , so is there any better option ?? for 600$ and less
Hi, great video thanks. I wonder if you can advise me on a replacement wheel for my TX base unit. I'd like one with paddles that rotate with the wheel and prefer a round wheel. Thanks
I do a lot of drifting in Assetto Corsa and while driving the Audi Quattro group b car, which requires a ton of violent steering motions to get it to slide(I have some footage on my channel), I heard a pop come from my TX base mid flick. It stopped responding and actually started smoking. I play with FFB at 75% in the control panel, and about 80% in game. I'm quite disappointed that the wheel has only lasted 4 months since purchase. Thrustmaster support received the base early last week. Still waiting on the repair and shipment back. Given that I now play racing sims far more than any other type of game, the time spent waiting on repairs is agonizing.
Thanks for the review. I got a G29 and G920 Logitech and that's just personal preference. i like the look and feel and it performs amazing ! By the way why are you shifting with your left hand? Did you use to drive in the UK or Australia or something? lol
Are you still rocking this set up? I'm thinking of buying the T300 Ferrari Integral Racing Wheel Alcantara Edition with the 3TPA pedals, but is it worth one third and a bit more of the price of the g920 + shifter?
I have 1,672 hours recorded playing Assetto Corsa. Even if we say 300 is just idle time that’s a lot of use! Also... not including the RFactor game where I drifted! Just ordered a new base. Mine lasted Atleast 4 years if not 5
Dude I have a question. I've had a Ferrari 458 spider steering wheel and it got loose on me. Then I returned it and got the thrustmaster tmx. And that got loose on me a little. A wobble. Now I'm thinking about upgrading to the thrustmaster TX rw leather edition. But I'm not sure if I should. Will that one get loose on me too. Can you recommend a good steering wheel. For xbox one
Oh, one more thing: When I got the Logitech 920 - it felt like it was broken from start; rattling and totally plastic. I'll head for the Thrustmaster in the future. The Fanatic is just to expensive for an amateur racer like me.
Mine feels like I can feel each degree of The wheel rotation almost bumpy, everything still works fine just al most clicks into place I have the cheaper 458 270 rotation wheel and it seems smoother Is this normal
I have never had forcefeedback wheel so is the TX 458 italia (with t3pa pedals) much better than the TMX wheel (with t3pa pedals) as it would be 100e more expensive (as a student 100e is quite alot for me)? I also would prefer the round rim on TMX and changing it for tx would be another 100e-200e
Yes. The additional cost is worth the better force feed back. The TMX would be an ok starter wheel but I feel like most people would want to upgrade fairly quickly.
Hey, I ordered the TX 458 for 250e and the Thrustmaster TM Leather 28 GT Wheel Add-On for 130e on sale. Thanks for the quick feedback. the T3PA pedals are pretty pointless without the TH8A shifter, right? so I should get them later on.
Awesome! Welcome to the world of Sim racing. You will love it. Yes I would wait and get both together, but the brake pedal on the t3pa pro is better than the standard TX pedals though. TX brake pedal is basically a spring and does not get progressively stiffer when you step on it. It still works fine but you have to rely on muscle memory where to stop applying pressure or you will lock up brakes. The t3pa brake pedal will feel more like a real brake pedal and in some cases after practice can make you faster.
Thanks. Can you give me advice what kind of settings I should have on TM control panel and in game. I play assetto corsa and dirt rally and I haven't yet gotten the settings quite right. The research I have done all give a bit different settings. Is there any tools like wheelcheck to set up my wheel for all the games? And do I have to go TM control panel every time I play different game than I played last time to change the settings for that game? (maybe a video about this topic (how to find the right settings) would be great for new players) (edit: I actually got the tx gt leather edition for 380e (T3PA pedals included) so all I need now is the sifter)
question: does the alcantara leather transpose to the hands when you play without gloves? In other words, do you hand get black after several hours of playing?
zissakos79 I know exactly what you are referring to. I had a part suede steering wheel in one of my cars and the black material always got on my hands. But no, the alcantara on the 599 is very sturdy and stong. I never use gloves and after hours of racing with sweaty hands the material never comes off on my hands. It stays pretty clean looking as well and I never clean it to be honest.
zissakos79 no problem and thank you! Now you may want to wait because thrustmaster just announced the Sparco R 383 mod for the ecosystem wich is even larger then the 599. It's only $20 more on amazon but won't be released until December 31st. Not sure if it's Alcantara or suede but it looks promising!
I already have the R383 since yesterday. After 1h of playing my hands were black, that's why I asked. Also, I am a little disappointed by the buttons and the new directional mini joystick that replaces the dpad... Considering refunding it.
Hey dude, i read one of your comments that said you would never reccomend the TMX Pro to anyone who wants to do serious hardcore sim racing; so would the tmx pro be okay for drifting on assetto corsa??? Thanks
I have Logitecg g920 wheel, but it doesnt feel as precise as I would like it to be. So should I replace it by buying the tx leather edition? Opinions?🤔
The TX will not be a huge jump from the g920. It will feel a little more detailed but if it were me I would probably try and go with the Thrustmaster TS-PC racer. It is a little more expensive but will get you more fidelity and road feel with that than the TX. But the TX is a great wheel, just don't think it will be a huge step up from what you have. Just keep in mind that the TS-PC racer does not come with pedals so you will have to account for that cost as well. TX comes with 2 piece pedals but they are very basic and not that great to be honest. I would probably opt for the T3pA Pros at a minimum if you ever plan to use a H pattern shifter.
Meloni88 ok if you are on xbox then yes right now the TX will be your best bet. However, thrustmaster just unveiled a version of the TS-PC racer at E3 that will be compatible on xbox one. No release date or price yet though. Like I said in the video I am very satisfied with the TX and I probably will not upgrade until I am ready to drop the money on a direct drive. But yes, TX is a great wheel and is plug and play with the xbox 1.
I bought the TX 458.... bit sceptical.. its a 2017 manufacturing unit but after reading the reviews little worried. I'm from India ..no thrustmaster service stations here...
my just died after 900 hrs, not totally dead just missing centre feeling and is no longer viable for iracing. This was a great product though, just thought it should have lasted longer;Time to upgrade to direct drive
randallpatrickc It has held up perfectly. And no I don't use gloves. Don't even have a pair lol. I recently did a long term review/comparison video between the 599 and the leather wheel about 2 weeks ago. Check it out. Should answer any other questions you may have!
I personally am thinking of getting a wheel at the start of next month and have watched a lot of reviews. My personally conclusion is it is probably easier and simply better to get the leather edition (which is what i will do) a lot of people have said that the TX 458 rim is a little to much like a toy so that is something to take in mind. I also am very into drifting so a more round rim suits me more which is a big part of why i will get the leather edition
There is a notable difference in force feedback between the two. The TSPC is smoother, heavier, more detailed, and faster in rotational speed. The default formula rim that comes with it is excellent with its leather grips, but any other rim would work fine. So if you have the money, definitely get the TSPC
My first TX’s circuit board fried after 6 months of light use. I got another one and it loses steering if I take my pedal of the gas at about 270 degrees of rotation going each way. I wanna sell it and get a Fanatec, but no one would want to buy a garbage wheel with issues. I’m just gonna get a warranty instead. If you’re in the market to get a wheel, do not get this wheel. It’ll save you a lot of time and money.
I have a sim-racing friend trying to sell me his TX base/with T500 Rim. I currently have a G27 with the brake mod. How does the TX compare to the G27? Is it worth buying when I already have a functioning G27? Thanks!! Enjoyed the review!
Keith McCourt I have never personally had a g27/29 but all of the research I have done and all the many reviews I have watched say that the TX/T300 is a step above. how much above, I can't say. You may want to save the money and make the step up to the thrusmaster TS-PC racer which will probably be a more noticeable step up. many people swear on the g series wheels but I have had no direct experience with them. sorry.
I am having problems with thrustmaster TX wheel on PC I'm on windows 10 and when I go on track on any game its laggy but if I open the thrustmaster driver and click ok its smooth in game but no FFB any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any help
I had mine for 2 days and played maybe 4 hours on 3 different games and it broke down, some electrical problem i think because it doesn't turn on anymore, i was doubting of just asking my money back but i'll ask for a new one instead, i really want to have a great steering wheel and try to improve my drifting skills because i have a drift car and don't want to break expensive stuff when i' m still learning the ropes
John Mcgarvey you don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy sim racing. you would be fine with something like a thrustmaster TMX or similar logitech wheel. they are a few hundred bucks and can be found used even cheaper online. You can still have fun and be competitive with a less expensive wheel. Most of what you are paying for with the more expensive wheels is the immersion of feeling closer to the real thing. But in my opinion you can still really enjoy and be competitive with a less expensive wheel.
KrazyDan thanks for that reply so fast. I would take your advice I just want something to have fun with and last a long time and to be able to customise it
I am currently testing a G29 and it has proven to be a great entry level wheel. Used it mostly on GT Sport PS4 and at some point I am going to move my Accuforce out of the way to test the G29 on the PC.
Completely different products. The Logitech systems are basically toys. I've owned the Momo and now have the G920... moving on up to a TX setup. Even my T150 from Thrustmaster was better than this G920. It's all about the FFB and Logitech doesn't compare. Longevity, sure, get Logitech, it's all gear driven, not belts, they suck at FFB but last longer.
I don't understand why people try to say Amazon is the cheapest. Do you even check eBay? EBay is always cheaper also no tax I mean come on ADD tax on top of the higher price on Amazon and its way higher
Chetan Jadunundon So the TMX wheelbase has a little less ffb strength than the TX has but the "Pro" set comes with the T3PA (3 piece) pedals where the TX only comes with only 2 piece pedal set and they are not great. The other kicker is the TMX does not have a removable rim so you can never replace it with something else from the TM ecosystem like the 599 rim or leather rim down the road. I would say purchase one of the TX bundles that comes with better pedals and rim. It will be more expensive but will be worth it in the long run. Not being able to swap the rim is a miss step in my opinion by thrustmaster for the TMX.
Chetan Jadunundon I have personally not had that issue but I have heard that from other sources. After doing a little research, to me it seems those cases were based on earlier versions of the wheels firmware where the fans did not come on as often. If you have your firmware updated you should be good to go. There is also an option to run the fan manually while you are playing which gives some people a sense of additional security. I don't do that with mine though unless I am running a very long endurance race.
Dan, I recently purchased the TX (leather edition) wheel and the pedals used and I'v noticed there is a slight wobble in the wheel as if it doesn't fit the steering shaft tight enough. This "wobble" is not in the steering/driving portion and I don't notice it when I'm racing but when I hold the wheel and pull/push back and forth there is some slight movement. Have you noticed this with any of your Thrustmaster wheels on the TX base ?hanks man great info and vid, keep up the great work.
what was the fault Stuart? Mine has just started to do the squeeky thing after only 6 weeks..and at 4 weeks I noticed the power supply gets a loud buzz after an hour. I hope your replacement was better.
@@glynnsmith4560 I couldn't get to the bottom of the issue. After a short period of use the power light would flash and the wheel kept spinning. I tried everything possible. In the end TM replaced the wheel and it has been fine since.
I have the leather rim also. It is a nice feeling wheel but it is a little small for me. Still feels somewhat toy like because of its size in all honesty. But it is not a bad wheel if you are ok with the smaller size. I would personally opt for the larger 599 if it is possible.
WARNING do not buy the t300rs servo base. It either dies after a few hours after purchase. A few months. Or right after warranty. I know from my own experience unfortunately😞. However the tx has far better reviews when it comes to reliability. Also people say it has a better feel than the t300. Just spend the extra 50 or so dollars and don't get scammed.
TX natively works with the Xbox one which is why I chose it way back then. This was before I made the move to PC sim racing. Yes if you are using the PC only then T300 makes more sense. Also I believe the rim you are referring to is the one on my wheel in this review.
yea, sorry forgot to mention the rim is part of a package that matches the price of TX leather edition. thanks for the advice i just heard rumors that tx lasts longer than t300 but i'm not sure if that's true.
People have varying opinions based on their own experience. Personally I don't think either is really that much better than the other. In fact they are very much one in the same. The major two differences between the them is that the t300 has slightly more degrees of rotation (which i never use. typically I run less than the 900° when sim racing. Most race cars do not require that much rotation to get them to turn), and the TX is ready to go with the Xb1. One thing to note is that because the TX is ready for Xbox, it has a sensor in the top for for the kinect. So there is an extra hump that sticks out on the top to make room for the sensor. It is such a minor detail that most people don't even notice it. But it is there. Hope this helps. I think you will be fine with either one!
well, I just ordered a t300 gt edition because of the great deal for 400$. it has the 3 pedal set but a regular rim. i figured i won't be seeing the rim much anyway because I'll game in VR :D. Thanks again for your help in deciding :)
